Christmas Dinner - whats everybody having

Well c'mon then - whats everybody having for Christmas Dinner ?

I know a lot of people still have the traditional Turkey and all the trimmings but for the last few years we have went away from that because it really is a lot of work. It is good mind you but still a lot of work.

This years menu is Pasta Bake & Smoked Sausage on Christmas Eve (kids request and it's nice and easy)

Balmoral Chicken for Christmas Day (chicken fillets suiffed with Haggis and wrapped in bacon)

And for Boxing Day we are going to have Cottage Pie.

Why was this thread not started by AFU? I thought he started ALL food related threads.

I will be having all the usual Christmas day food, nothing special. We have a few starters in our house though. Prawn cocktails, pate and stuffed mushrooms. Actually I would be quite happy just having loads of starters and forgetting the rest.

Mmmmm Christmas Dinner. Mmmmmmmmm

I will be mostly eating Beef, Turkey and a roasted ham/gammon joint. My mum and dad buy shit loads of stuff in over christmas - I love going back home. I usually do a nice ham joint (boiled til cooked then cross cross the fat with a knife and put cloves in, then coat the joint with honey, orange juice and thin orange peel - mmmm and then roast it and serve with spicey apple sauce.) turkey for the traditional people and beef too.

Not a big fan of pudding, so I usually just have 3 or 4 servings of dinner. I leave the pudding and cake to the women/poofs. Meat is what real men eat

mmmmmm

New Chinese has opened in the town and their starter - Salt & Chilli King Prawns are fab. Only just tried it last Sat night but had them twice since. Fantastic.

Re: Christmas Dinner - whats everybody having

Quiet christmas for me. Going to my sister's fiances mums. She sadly lost her husband a few months ago whilst on holiday after a lifetime of it just being him and her. Tragic really. Gonna be quite emotional time. I hope ive still got it in me to make things light and try to raise a bit of cheer. dunno whatwe'll be eating though but i presume it will be traditional. Ive a new rule. I aint giving up drinking i just dont drink anything over 5% anymore and i will enploy that tactic this christmas to keep me sociable. Usually i see Tom Saywer at Christmas but ive proabbly missed the last 2 due to my online pursuits.

More importantly, what time do you have dinner? I think we're prone to having it all set for the Queens speech at 3pm. Been known to do evenings some christmases.

Re: Christmas Dinner - whats everybody having

Thankfully it's off to my mum and dad's this Christmas (as opposed to the in-laws) so a big family do. It will be tinged with sadness as my nan sadly died yesterday (although the old girl had a good innings - 94 years old - bless her).. So we'll be remebering the good times about her..

That aside it's the usual..Me and my brother, uncle and dad go to the pub at lunch time meet up some other distant relatives and cram in about 6 pints of stella in about 90 minutes, followed drunken family arguements, the usual turkey lunch, probably the token drunken family arguements, few games, tv and excessive drinking of wine, port, sloe gin, brandy, etc..Then crash out in the sleeping bag.....

Great !!!
