Anyone into Terry Pratchett?
A fantasy fiction novel from Terry Pratchett's best-selling series Discworld is being adapted into a TV film starring Sir David Jason.
Hogfather will be the first time that a book from Pratchett's Discworld series has been made into a feature-length film. The £6 million Sky One film will be shown in two parts and will combine live action with computer-generated images. The channel promises more famous faces from both sides of the Atlantic to join Only Fools And Horses star Sir David, who will play the role of Albert, a grumpy former wizard. Hogfather will be screened over Christmas in two parts of 120 minutes each. It will be filmed in studios in Romania where the snow and mountain ranges required for the film's setting are just two hours away. Pratchett, the UK's second most popular contemporary author, has sold more than 45 million books worldwide. The first in the Discworld series was published in 1983 and there have been 34 books since. Pratchett joked of ITV star Jason's decision to play the role: "It's like all my Hogswatches have come at once." He added: "Now there's the technology which makes it cheap to make - what you couldn't do 10 years ago, you can do easily now. You can now make fantasy look quite real. Unless something really untoward happens, I'm really looking forward to seeing it in 3D." Pratchett said he would have a say in the look of the characters as in the past he had not been involved in a Discworld movie for fear of losing control of his creations. Sir David was approached for the role when the producers discovered he was a fan of Pratchett's books. He plays Death's manservant Albert, who dresses up as a grumpy pixie helper. Sir David said: "I am thrilled to be taking part in Hogfather and to play the part of Albert is going to be great fun." |

Re: Anyone into Terry Pratchett?
I didn't say I was into him Komp. I just thought it might be interesting to anyone who was.
As it happens I have read this one and I will watch the film. Read a couple of others too and I particularly liked the one about war and the one about the truth - a newspaper theme. That one did impress me. |

I met him once at a cash machine off Kensington High street in the late 80's. I did the obligatory heavy man Neil impression. He looked about as impressed as he does in that picture there Mick
![]() I once read Neil's Book Of The Dead. Slightly on topic that was. |
