Wills - Do you have one?
I know what the overwhelming answer is going to be but I thought I'd ask the question anyway.
I'd also be interested to hear from anyone who may work in a legal type capacity (even if it's not exactly in the will department) who might know if those will things you can buy in WH Smiths and the like any good whatsoever and, if so, would you have to have them ratified by a legal bod anyway once drawn up? |

Re: Wills - Do you have one?
Here's an article
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6065966.stm Few people would imagine their death might cause chaos, unseemly recriminations and a long legal battle split across family lines. Yet new research suggests that most Britons have not made a will, meaning their fortunes could be legally contested by relatives. The key problem is that, without a will, a series of pretty arbitrary rules come into force which could leave loved ones forced to sell off the family home. |

Re: Wills - Do you have one?
I've got to get something sorted myself ODM, if anything did happen to me and the wife then i'd need/want to make sure things were split properly. As things stand theyed be squabling over about £30
I think (though i'm not sure) everything gets left to the eldest child in Ireland, maybe somebody can confirm this? Is this a better way of settling things? |

Re: Wills - Do you have one?
I had to have one done when I went overseas. Witnessed by 2 staff members of the crowd I worked with at the time.
There's lots of boiler plate templates available on the web. You don't legally need a solicitor but its probably best if there's anything contentious in the will. Spell everything out in very plain English and you won't go to far wrong. The legal establishment try to make the process of making a will out to be this arcane ritual but like lots of things they are involved in they make it more smoke and mirrrors than is necessary. |
