Riddle

[MYDOGDYLAN]

Four men are lined up on some steps. About to be executed. They are all facing in the same direction. A wall seperates the fourth man from the other three.
So to summarise :-

* Man 1 can see men 2 and 3.
* Man 2 can see man 3.
* Man 3 can see none of the others.
* Man 4 can see none of the others.

The men are wearing hats. They are told that there are two white hats and two black hats. The men initally don't know what colour hat they are wearing. They are told to shout out the colour of the hat that they are wearing as soon as they know for certain what colour it is.

They are not allowed to turn round.

They are not allowed to talk to each other.

If anyone guesses correctly they will all live, if anyone guesses incorrectly they will all die. They have two minures...

So the question is -
Who shout outs and when and why?<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

If I were number two I'd leave it for a minute and then shout that I had a white hat. The logic being that if I was wearing a white hat then the guy behind me (number 1) could see two black hats and know that his was white.


I would definitely leave it though just in case number 1 happened to be a thick cunt.

What's the right answer?

Whoops - I don't want to edit for fear of allegations of cheating but when i typed...

They are told to shout out the colour of the hat that they are wearing as soon as they know for certain what colour it is.

They have to know for certain do they hmmm. How could that be judged if they knew for certain and werent just guessing lucky.

If that bit wasnt in there I woulda just said it doesnt matter what order anyone says anything in, just all say white or just all say black and 2 of you will be right but thats not really solving the riddle is it.

The only one with any advantage is 2. He knows there 2 white hats out there and only 1 black, so if I was him id just go last and say white. Still again doesnt solve someone knowing what colour they have on though.

The 2nd guy shouts out the answer,He thinks to himself "if i can see a black hat in front of me.The guy behind me can see my hat and the Black hat.

So if i was wearing a Black hat too,the guy behind me would see 2 Black hats
and shout out.He has'nt said anything so i must be wearing a White hat.

Yes but he knows that if the guy behind him saw two black hats in front of him then he would know that his (number 1 that is) was white and would shout up.
Therefore, the absence of a shout means that his own hat (number 2 that is) must be white and not black.

A room with no windows and just one door has 3 separate lights. Outside the room are 3 light switches. Figure out which switch is for which light. You cannot see the lights from the light switches and you have no help from others. You can switch the switches as many times as you like but you may only enter the room once. You cannot look in the door without entering. On return you must give your answer.

Put on switch 2 and then enter room

Switch 1 operates bulb which is HOT
Switch 2 operates bulb which is on
Switch 3 operates COLD bulb

Im not worried about it, fact is if I was 2 I woulda guessed white and save the day
