Re: "Born Again Barry" slags gambling
Raisin, excellent post, even if I don't agree with all you say.
I am not going to quibble with you on stuff like dinosaurs, age of the planet, neanderathal man etc however I do have to take exception with this comment. Quote:
As far as I remember, incest wasn't handed down to Moses as a commandment so did God introduce some others that we aren't widely known. Overall, I ain't having a go at you, or Alien. If someone has faith and believes in God then so be it, its their views and who am I to say they are wrong. I was brought up Catholic, attended mass every Sunday for 25 years or so and have to admit I had beliefs that God existed. Maybe not as strong as you or Alien but still some form of belief. However we were taught that God was good and fair. I then had a particularly shitty thing happening in my life and after that I couldn't or don't believe anymore. If God existed in the way we were taught, it wouldn't have happened. My mum still goes to mass every day, my sister every weekend but I don't anymore as I just cannot believe in the existance of God. |

Re: "Born Again Barry" slags gambling
Hey crowie,
the book of Deuteronomy is a guide to the Isrealites on how to live. It details a whole lot of stuff including "Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of this mother". And Chris, you were the one who wanted to have a discussion, you seem to have lowered the tone and become very aggressive. I'll quite happily discuss stuff with you but not when you come back with things like Quote:

I'm halfway through a reply but I gotta go out. I will post it later.
Quote:
Not the case crowie. It's quite common for people to lose all faith after a very unchilling occurence. Like a son/daughter being inexplicably killed in an accident or the like. God gave man free will and with free will terrible things happen. You then of course get things like natural disasters and if someone is killed in these they blame God and lose faith etc too. It can completely depend on your stance in a sense. Wasn't too long ago that there was a rather large tsnuami causing unbelievable destruction. Some people's stance on this was why did you let this happen God ?!?!?! In one part there was a village that was completely wiped out apart from one building - the religious building. I think it was a mosque. One person said ah look the tsunami has destroyed everything but Allah has saved the mosque. Now I am not suggesting that is what happened but merely pointing out you can take the same siutaion and have a polar opposite view on it depending on how you are feeling. Anyway will get my other reply sorted later when I come back from swimming |

Re: "Born Again Barry" slags gambling
And about discussing it, it is pointless especially with Alien as he will inevitably just pick out small bits from what I say where i let me emotion get the better of me, or maybe I misquote something and pick on that.
I just wish we could all die now and see who was right! |

Re: "Born Again Barry" slags gambling
Yeah you had some points. But all your replys seem so full of sarcasm that I don't know what points you are actually trying to make.
Quote:
I believe homosexual acts are wrong. I don't believe that the desire to do them is wrong. In the same way that I think going out and getting really drunk is wrong but the desire isn't. I don't have anything against gay people. Its their own choice, I won't fall out with someone or disrespect them because they make a descision I don't agree with, as long as its a decision that doesn't hurt me. Quote:
This is why we have to make up our own minds, precisely because we can't have definite answers to anything. Quote:

But in the same way you are attracted to women and want to have sex with women some men have the exact same attraction to other men. Why should they miss out on there desires? Why the hell would they have these desires in the first place anyway.Just try to look past the aggressive/sarcasm in my posts, i just say things how I would speak or think them! |

I don't know why people have these desires in the first place. Could be genetic, could be upbringing. I don't know. But just because there is a desire doesn't make it ok. ------------ Anyway, I'm off to do some work for a few hours. I'll catch up on whatever else is said later. |

Re: "Born Again Barry" slags gambling
An argument could be there (dont know if Christians think this or not but it would be my interpretation if I believed) that God gives you temptations to overcome etc. I think even Jesus had temptations and stuff in one of the stories but he didnt succumb to them and thats the example set there I guess. So a gay persons life work perhaps would be not to be gay
Its a right shitter (pardon the expression) for the gay guy/gal but I guess an eternity in heaven as a result would make it worthwhile if it was as sweet as its meant to be. |

Re: "Born Again Barry" slags gambling
I said I wouldn't post anything else but this had be fuckin rolling with laughter. In a thread chock to the brim with utter bollocks, this still manages to stand head and shoulders above the rest. Quote:
Fuckin hell! So we're expected to believe that a man lived to be 600. That a woman became pregnant without having sex and conceived the spawn of the creater of the universe. We're asked to believe that some bloke somehow made a boat and gathered two of every fuckin animal on the entire planet and put them on this boat. But we can't believe a bit of contemporary science because it's "incredibly inaccurate". Priceless. |

Re: "Born Again Barry" slags gambling
Actually ODM if you bothered to read the bible you'd have more ammunition as it talks of people living to over 900 years, not just 600.
This is the topic of a rather lengthy post I am presently constructing. You think it sounds ridiculous but the actual problem is you don't actually think about it all. |
