Well I can only offer my thoughts but I would imagine the bible doesn't come out with things like the world is round and many other things as well firstly it is not a science journal and is not meant as such. Secondly this book was to be ready by many millions of people over thousands of years and needs to be understood by all of them. If it started talking about genetic engineering or something similar what are people hundreds of years before us going to make of that ?
You forget there are many simple basic things which we take for granted now that weren't always the case. For instance covering your waste. The bible clearly instructed people to bury their fecal matter. You only have to go back a few hundred years and you have open sewers running in the streets of London.

In answer to your second point, no I don't dismiss them solely on that one specific point. There are many. Plus you seem to forget we can look at the earth now and see it is not held up by Atlas or four elephants or the like but appears to be hung on nothing as the bible describes......clearly that is in direct opposition to what greeks or hindus would believe.
Now you take the stories of the garden of eden, the genesis flood, the tower of babel.......there is no definite way you can disprove these events occured the same way you might disprove the earth is not held up by four elephants.
In fact you might even find evidence that such events did take place.
Now of course cos you can't prove they didn't happen doesn't mean you automatically believe them. But it's not as if you can hold up a single thing and say look the bible says this yet I observe different. You can do that with many other religious scriptures but it doesn't happen with the bible.

Tales of tower of babel etc...are they really that far fetched ? If we are talking about a deity that is the creator of the universe here I fail to see whta is so far fetched ! Now we of course have deitys in other religions and you could argue the same point but they make claims such as the earth example I have already mentioned which appear to be false !
Essentially the only part of the tower of babel story that is unbelievable is that a Deity then scattered humans throughout the world and make them speak different languages to confuse them.
A bunch of humans building a big tower thousands of years ago isn't really that hard to believe is it ? I mean look at egyptian pyramids.
But it comes down to belief again.....someone might say they are willing to believe the tower of babel existed but not the accompanying story.
That's up their choice to make.
