Things to consider when betting
Hello,
At the moment, I would class myself as an intermediate bettor. I use a combination of operators, always try to find the best prices available and I am relatively selective over what bet I make. I am looking for advice, or ways to help me progress from likely losses into the early stages of profit. I would be interested to hear about the various methods and stages people go through before they place a bet. What are the factors people take into account before placing a bet on a football match for instance, do they follow trends, statistics etc. Any advice/feedback would be great. Many thanks Harfin |

Re: Things to consider when betting
Welcome to TDP Harfin.
Sports betting is like anything else, the more research you do the better you get, if you don't like sports then you may aswell forget it unless you want to risk betting blindly on somebodys elses picks which is risky. I don't do stats or trends, I'm more the practical type, i like to know the ins and outs of anything I'm betting on, i'm mainly a football bettor so watch hrs of footage , not because of betting but because i love the sport so its like a busmans holiday to me, Horse racing Bettors are just the same, if you're going to have a sports bet then bet on something you know something about and use the internet to ask for opinions just like you are doing now. Forums are free so abuse them, don't be ashamed or shy of posting up a bet and asking for opinions, we have thousands of members but only a few hundred regularly post, I've never understood that because if you are going to risk your own money and not sure then why not ask for free advice like you are doing now. Good luck with your future bets harfin and keep up the interaction with TDP, lurkers take note! |

Re: Things to consider when betting
Many thanks for the replies,
Some good advice there which I will be taking on board. Football and horse racing are my main areas of betting. I often find with the football, which is my main betting area, that it is worth while checking on as much information as you can, especially if your betting a large single stake. I have started to look at all the possible things that could effect the outcome of the game. It's amazing really when you analyse a game in depth, how much information you can get, which I am sure a lot of you already know. The more you know, the more calculated bet you can make, in theory anyway. Thanks again guys |

Re: Things to consider when betting
hi harfin,i would just like to warn you,in case you were unaware, that football is thought to be the hardest sport to profit from!
i think the main reason is that pretty much ALL the relevant info is included in the prices and it is hard to find a stat. that is both relevant but that the bookies and other people havent noticed. |

Re: Things to consider when betting
ok,i am really intrigued by that.any chance of your reasons?
how long did it take you to become good- are you a pro(if thats not too personal)? |

Re: Things to consider when betting
No, i'm not pro, never will be, but i can make a minimum 15% profit over a football season. It's the only sport i make a profit on.
The first thing i look for is a team where i think the price represents value, then i decide how many from the coupon i want to follow up and back. Then i decide what is the best way of staking (if more than one selection) and then i try and stake accordingly, mainly by spreading my bets about. Years of experience is a massive bonus, probably my strongest point when it comes to gambling on football matches. |
