Re: Spain
Funny little fella. It would work if anyone in Europe had the foggiest what he's talking about. As it is he'll just look silly, but stick in some English and they might just get it.

Re: Spain
In case you're interested in what he is actually going on about, here's a rough translation of the lyrics (although some of it looks a bit slangy and I think I might be missing something). The chiqui chiqui, by the way, is supposedly the dance that he's doing, basically just an abbreviation of his stage name (Rodolfo Chikilicuatre):
Quote:
The "chiqui-chiqui" is really great,
They dance it in China and also in Alcorcón.
Give the chiqui-chiqui to that brunette,
The chiqui-chiqui drives her mad!
Rajoy dances it,
Hugo Chávez dances it,
Zapatero dances it,
my dear, you know it!
The "brothers" dance it,
My brother dances it,
My mixed race woman (had to look that up in a dictionary, that's what it says, think I may be missing something there ) dances it with knickers in her hands!
And you dance the chiqui-chiqui like this:
1! EL BREIKINDANCE! (The Breakdance)
2! EL CRUSAÍTO (The Crossover)
3! EL MAIQUEL YASON (The Michael Jackson)
4! EL ROBOCOP!
Dance chiqui-chiqui,
Dance chiqui-chiqui,
The heavy metallers dance it and so do the freakies!
They dance it in the prisons, they dance it in the schools,
My mum dances it and so does my nan!
The puma tiger sings it in his striped suit
and Juan Carlos says to him: Why don't you shut up? (a reference to the king of Spain who recently said that to Hugo Chavez)
In the wake for Father Damián,
They put on the chiqui-chiqui and the dead started to dance!
And you dance the chiqui-chiqui like this:
1! EL BREIKINDANCE! (The Breakdance)
2! EL CRUSAÍTO (The Crossover)
3! EL MAIQUEL YASON (The Michael Jackson)
4! EL ROBOCOP!

My wife seems to think this song is going to make Spain a laughing stock. She seems to be under the illusion that Eurovision is a serious song contest I meanwhile have had a little nibble on it at 65 Last price matched now down as low as 36.
You may yet get your wish for him to throw something extra into the song too Beanie. They were interviewing him on the telly the other day and saying how he was going to have to pad the song out a bit, it only lasts around 2 mins at the moment, so they'll have to stick something more in there. At the moment it's very much aimed at the Spanish-speaking world in its references (Zapatero and Rajoy, the two main party leaders in last weekend's elections, Hugo Chavez, the king of Spain telling him to shut up, Father Damian). Chucking in an extra verse with a few references for the rest of Europe to get may make it more popular.

Re: Spain
On a side note, Marca also claims that Chikilicuatre can be backed at 1000/1 to be the next president of Valencia FC at Paddy Power

Re: Spain
Cheers rc - yeah, in recent years the Spanish entries have always remained virtually 100% spanish in their national selection contests, before adapting the song with an English verse or chorus. I think this one will need atleast that, if not more, for most of Europe to be able to pick up the phone for him.

Re: Spain
Well, that didn't take them long. English verse added, new version can be found here, along with a translation into English and into French of the Spanish lyrics
:: El Chikichiki a Eurovisión ::
New updated video here. Although to be honest if it hadn't been for checking the lyrics I'm not sure I would've realised he was speaking English

Re: Spain
Wouldn't actually scratch the Spaniard's chances. At least it makes you want to move and is quite more lively than most of the other entries. The price at BF is 42 now, but won't be going up I reckon. Worths a small nibble, really.

Exactly the same with me with the Bulgarian song, but I backed it at much more shorter price of 27

Re: Spain
Interesting tactics by Spain this year. Grab a local drunk fella, stick a wig on him, put a loaded gun to his head and tell him to sing and dance and amuse you at random. "Hey cheeky, cheeky, oh god... haha, 1,2,3,4 cheeky cheeky... gulp... cheek...ah...cheeky cheeky cheeky.... haha.."
He'll do! Send him in!
Don't. Don't get me started on this one. Last place. In the bag. NEXT!

Re: Spain
I'm giving you 20/1 that Spain won't be last, Mickey
Stranger songs have made the final and have placed in the top places for a stupefaction of the regular spectator (and listener).

Re: Spain
I probably shout 'LAST PLACE!!' to all the ones that really annoy me, engineer. This annoys me even more than Ukraine last year and we all know how well that did.
This really has nothing going for it that I can see. It's not even a good 'stupid' effort. It's an old man with a wig who really does come across as being mentally ill. As someone I know once said.. "I'd love to smash that guitar into his cheeky cheeky."

Re: Spain
It made me think of that '2 girls one cup' thing that has been going about. If you filmed me watching this song it went went from puzlement to a stoney stare of just not understanding where this song is coming from. I quite like the wee keyboard/kid toy noise. I can't belive that i am saying this but it just wasnt long enough

If this is a poor eurovision it might do well.
