New format, and worth gleaning any info we can asap before the second semi...

First off, it looks like late songs still have an advantage, although things were evened up slightly.

5 of the last 6 songs went through, only weak Macedonia missing out.

Errr...juries look to have been relatively even...probably favoured ballads slightly but maybe not quite as much as I would have expected.

It's difficult Beanie. There was some quality at the end of semi 1. I thought Iceland would qualify anyway, so not really surprised about that. I think it could be a little misleading to suggest that the back end qualified just because of their positioning. Excellent quality will ultimately get you through.

Using that logic though, Cyprus are improved but short of support generally. Bulgaria won't have gotten anything from the judges - they are the Macedonia of semi 2 IMO. Ireland and Romania would be my choice to surely qualify and Denmark are surely for the chop now!

Yeah, if we work from the point that Russia was always going through due to the Russian vote, and that those late 5 were expected to qualify, then it all tells us nothing

Not out of the question Rado - its doing well amongst Eurovision fans, but then so was Slovakia!

Are you referring to the friendly votes? Finland, Estonia and Latia don't really come close to Russia and Belarus on that account though...

No, agreed, but I thought that in such a close semi where not much separated a lot of the songs, that an easy 8 or 10 here or there would propel atleast one of them into the final, at the expense of something like Moldova which couldnt really count on any friendly votes at all.
