Bosnia & Herzegovina Bosnia

Usually love the Bosnian entry, but this seems their weakest for a while.

Having said that, the video and presentation is very low quality - give this a bigger stage, proper outfits, more of a backing track, and it could be a very different song.

Wouldn't that constitute a new song?

Actually Beanie, I can see where you're coming from here. I really dislike that guitar solo - it kills whatever hard work the singer has done so far. I can't see this touring too much either, so perhaps some nice high odds given that bookies will hate it. It's very early in the semi though isn't it...? It's in the right group for support though!

Re: Bosnia

The running order hasnt been decided yet - the draw they held a few weeks ago decided who was performing in the first half and who in the second half, but not exactly where in those halfs. Also, voting could be open throughout the show, which would negate the drawbacks of an early draw. Quite why they didnt do the draw in one go I have no idea.

Anyway, I guess I'm not really saying I like the song, im not sure yet, but in general I think the betting markets react a bit too much to the quality of presentation at this stage. Songs from Sweden, Greece etc have videos in HD, with huge stages, big special effects, great sound quality, whereas ones like this have none of that.

Come May, none of that matters, as they will all be on the same stage, with the same effects and the same sound.

Re: Bosnia

Oh dear. I agree this is their weakest in a long time. We get a few like this each year but it's usually the smaller nations. Very dated, naff-rock. This is pish and I doubt I'll be anywhere near it at any point.

Re: Bosnia

A few tweaks here and there but still massive problems present in this lacklustre soft rock vileness.

Firstly, the lead's voice is a shocker. It just lacks the quality and power to pull a song off like this, and more importantly, to compete in Eurovision (although there are much worse)! The live version really highlights the weaknesses we can expect from him and the band's harmonies.

Secondly, the guitar solo. Ok they've improved it from the "pitch bend" solo in the first performance, but the new one, whilst better is still disappointing. If you're going to cross into the genre of rock, you at least need a guitarist that can wow - and this one quite clearly isn't up to the task!

On a positive note, they have improved the build up and final fortissimo moment going into the final minute. I do still think the singer will cost them qualification - regardless of the fact they are Bosnia (who usually qualify).

Re: Bosnia

Agreed that its improved - its similar to Macedonia yet ahead of that given that its in English and doesnt have the pointless rap.

There's a bit of potential to get a theme going with the staging. I think it can squeeze through, but its very marginal so im not touching at odds on.

Re: Bosnia

Can't tell much from watching it on my phone. Bit to me it looked like he wasn't playing that guitar during the solo.

Cor. That's a lot better than when I first watched it. Seems more up to date and ooomphy. I quite liked it.

Re: Bosnia

That's what I thought on 1st impressions Mickey. Phone speaker doesn't do it much justice though. Macedonia is surely a gonna now.

Edit: I think it's the stage and lighting actully. It's amazing what effect it has!

Re: Bosnia

hmmm, I'm still not impressed by this. It's his vocals that don't light up the song. I don't like the backing singers turning their backs to the audience or him putting the guitar down on the stage; that looks clumsy.

Re: Bosnia

Yeah, the whole 'act' looks pretty shambolic but I'd take this song over Macedonia anyday. Did the orginal one have that orchestration accompanying it as I think that's what my ears are picking up on with the last vid. It's not so much naff-rock now (still a bit too like a theme to an Americanised, Japanese cartoon though).

It's ok. Not too bad. I quite liked it but doubt I'll remember how it goes in a day or two.

2nd rehearsal. Much improved lighting, really enhances the performance.
