Sweden Melodifestival 2010

Sweden's national selection process is biggest and probably best around(altho its produced some iffy winners of late) so deserves a thread of its own.

4 semi finals, then a 2nd chance round, before the big final.

Qualifiers from semi 1:

Ola Svensson - Unstoppable

Bagpipes!

Salem Al Fakir - Keep on Walking

Download Salem Al Fakir - Keep On Walking (Live Melodifestivalen 2010) video - savevid.com

Prob the fav at this stage.

Qualifiers from Semi 2

Eric Saade - Manboy

Andreas Johnson - We Can Work It Out

Re: Melodifestival 2010

Going to have to give up putting these up as Swedish telly shuts the links down within a few hours each time. But the songs are out there if you fancy a listen...

Oh apart from this which won semi 3(forget about the other qualifier):

Re: Melodifestival 2010

Finals are up next saturday. I'd be willing to bet (in fact I have) that, among the 10 entries, the winner can be found in one of these:

Salem el-Fakir "Keep on Walking"

Anna Berendahl "This is My Life"

Your opinions?

Re: Melodifestival 2010

I must say Beanie, I'm praying for this one. I think it has legs... erm in fact, quite a few legs!

BEANIE!!!! - Betway have this @ 5.5 to win Melodefestivalen.

Anna Bergendahl 2.20 (I think this is too boring and overrated)
Salem Al Fakir 4.50
Eric Saade 5.00
Timoteij 5.50

Re: Melodifestival 2010

Would you believe I typed out a similar post on Saturday night and decided not to bother at that time as I hadnt had a chance to get up to speed on some of the later qualifiers.

But I agree - for me its head and shoulders above the others(although I really hate the nonsense with the fake instruments that the 4 girls do - it looks ridiculous. Give them one of those mammoth drums each and then we're talking.

Only thing that holds me back is that Sweden has seen a bit of a move away from Schlager songs since Hero did so poorly a few years ago - although this is different enough to distinguish it from ones like that.

Im trying to track down the polls I was looking at when this qualified - it hadnt quite picked up the popular support that I thought it might, but meh, at those odds its worth a sheckle or two, agreed on that much.

Kom Kom Kom!

Re: Melodifestival 2010

It won it's group Beanie.

Looking at Youtube, this song has the highest viewers and ratings of the top4 last time I checked.

It seems a lot of people are routing for this one to win and have pointed out that it would appeal to the Baltics.

They are all music students who can actually play those instruments. Why they don't is beyond me. But if this qualifies, it's becomes very interesting! (also check out one of Greece's potential songs with the rapper)!

Re: Melodifestival 2010

Take it from the Swede guys - Timoteij won't win

Although I do agree that it's a tremendous show of strenght that they beat Darin in their group.

Re: Melodifestival 2010

Tonights the first time I've listened to the Berghendal song...and it's better than I was expecting. Surely benefits big time from the other hyped songs being very different - if its going to command most of the ballad votes then it will be tough to stop(Darin surely isnt a strong enough singer to get any more than the teen votes?).

Do the regional juries still have the level of influence they have in recent years squall? I guess they would probably go for the ballad too...

That said, I could do with as few female ballads progressing so that they dont step on Croatia's toes so Im hoping Sweden temporarily loses its sanity and sends Eric Saade

Re: Melodifestival 2010

Kom currently leading the esctoday poll so maybe not without chances, and certainly seems to have a decent amount of support , although it might turn out that a lot of it comes from outwith Sweden.

Re: Melodifestival 2010

Beanie:

I think Darin will get more than just teen votes - otherwise he's in for a train wreck. There just aren't enough teens voting in MF, as I understand it. The winner seems to be the favourite among 30-50 year olds. Anyway, I see him about fifth.

Regarding juries, they allocate (together) as many points as the popular vote, but as their points tend to spread out I'd say they're much less powerful. They're not likely to move the result more than one step from the popular vote (that is, bringing 2nd to 1st) - if that. Last year, Måns Zelmerlöw was grand jury favourite, but still finished 4th overall.

Of course, it will be interesting to see what effect it will have that half the juries are now from abroad (two west europe, two east, two south).

Sweden's odds cut to 10's. If Anna wins, they are sure to rise again, as I think her song is tediously boring and her voice is yuck (almost as if she's trying to do a John Major impression). There is something very sickly about the end, her false smiling and quivery voice really turns me off. If this is what Sweden like, then so be it. I'd advise them against it though.

One interesting factor, is that Kom will have to drop 2 of those drummers for the semis and the final, as ESC rules state only 6 performers are allowed per song.

Darin - You're out of my life (9.4 %)
Anna Bergendahl - This is my life (9.4 %)
Salem al Fakir - Keep on walking (8.1 %)
Ola Svensson - Unstoppable (5.4 %)
Jessica Andersson - I did it for love (4.4 %)
Pernilla Wahlgren - Jag vill om du vågar (4.4 %)
Peter Jöback - Hollow (2.5 %)
Andreas Johnson - We can work it out (1.5 %)

Re: Melodifestival 2010

My guess:

1. Anna Berendahl
2. Salem Al-Fakir
3. Darin
4. Eric Saade
5. Timoteij
6. Jessica Andersson
7. Peter Jöback
8-10. The rest

3-5 are very hard though, could easily be reversed.
