Re: Portugal
I see echoes with Jade Ewen's arrangement and stage show here. I like the ballad, but she's got a face like a smacked arse - she doesn't seem to be enjoying herself. So at the moment, I'm a little torn. I like the song, just not sure about her pulling it off. Where does the pianist go??? Last edited by Gavster : 28-03-2010 at 16:44 |

Re: Portugal
How in the blazes did I miss this little lovely? She sounds terrific, gavin. The song is a bit... boooooring (will a good vocalist ever be given a fucking chance to win?). Curses. I'll have to get another crate of Guinness in to see how it sounds when I'm mongelised. If both of me like it then.... 66/1 for the semi you say? I'll be back.

Re: Portugal
I didn't click a live version, squall. I'd best go peel my ears and give it a listen. Smoke me a kipper! I'll be back for breakfast.Ok doke.... sounds good enough so far. This song is soul destroying though. I don't think I could get through this more than once. Hmm, I think her voice is very good to be honest, squall. Technically at least. Still makes me think of Jade last year although this may even be more bland than that one. Oooh, she hits quite a note at the end there. Yip. I think she's very good but the song is very, very, not very good. |

Re: Portugal
Right I'm awake and I'm going to defend this...
It's 66-1. Look at what is on offer in the semi group! The strength is shocking! There is Greece, Estonia, Slovakia and Portugal; they are the only ones in my eyes capable of doing well. Estonia is the only other one that offers flawless vocals. The stage show is shocking, and I think that puts her off. They just need to plant her in one place and leave her to sing, and at least give her the opportunity to concentrate on smiling rather than endlessly walking around and blowing candles out! But, her singing is flawless! The new version has backing singers that adds to the vocal punch. The key changes give a lovely warm feeling to the song. Can't say much more. It's 66-1 and worth a punt in my opinion. |

Re: Portugal
Are you saying that Estonian guy is singing? *THUD*
I'm not sure this song is up to it gavin although she certainly is. There was a storming performance last year by... uh.. Slovenia or summat but the song itself fell short and it didn't even qualify (the duet one, I forget which country it was). Having said that, Portugal were 2nd (I think) in their semi a couple of years ago with another cracking burd and I initially felt the same about that song until she absolutely blew me. Away. I need a few more listens to this *reaches for more booze to dull the pain* |

Re: Portugal
I have to confess, I'd be surprised if this didn't qualify going by the 2nd video. It's not really my cup of tea but I can recognise her quality; something which this year's event really seems to be lacking. This is probably going to be a bet for me (to qualify). Amazingly.

Re: Portugal
You love it! She's definitely held back by a pretty medicore song but, as I say, there's so little quality around this year I'd be surprised if she didn't make it as I do think she's good. I'm sure Beanie has mentioned before too that the semi voters tend to be the ones who take it a bit more seriously (hence Portugal doing superb in their semi a couple of years ago and struggling in the final once all the drunken retards were allowed a say - I voted for that funny fat fella! Hahahah!).edit: that first song is a hell of a lot better btw. Just clicked it. Last edited by MickeyPaul : 29-03-2010 at 21:28 |
