Re: Iceland
I still consider it to be a ghastly piece of 90's pop trash. But with a big, fat, burd singing which wasn't allowed in them days. I don't really have an opinion on whether or not this will make it as it's as shit as many of the others. I'd never be confident enough to class this a definite qualifier though.

Re: Iceland
Last Thursday the Retro Bar in Central London hosted the annual Douze Points video previews. A full house of revelers watched the songs from the first semi-final of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest on the big screen. The audience voted Hera Bj¶rk with her song Je ne sais quoi as the clear winner followed by Albania is second place and Finland in the third.
The audiences at the Retro Bar were divided in 17 juries, one for each participating country. No jury were allowed to vote for their own country and to prevent tactical voting each jury are made to swap to a different country for the final. The Douze Points first semi-final results: 1. ICELAND 142 2. ALBANIA 109 3. FINLAND 88 4. SLOVAKIA 85 5. GREECE 83 6. PORTUGAL 80 7. MOLDOVA 78 8. BELGIUM 73 9. BELARUS 52 10. MALTA 48 11. ESTONIA 39 12. LATVIA 26 13. FYR MACEDONIA 26 14. POLAND 21 15. BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA 16 16. SERBIA 12 17. RUSSIA 8 The top ten countries will progress to the Douze Points final preview on 13th May. The second semi final will be shown on at the Retro Bar on Thursday, 29th April. |

Re: Iceland
The song is almost identical to their 2008 entry...play the two side by side and you'll see what I mean. Although atleast 2008 had the decency to complement a camp song with a camp man in a sleeveless top with pink frills. Thankfully that gives us an easy indication that this will finish safely mid table, nothing more nothing less.

Re: Iceland
Personally, I'm NOT happy with the Eurodisco:fication of the song... imo, it's not nearly as happy or energetic as 2008, and even that one was really close not to qualifying.
I think Iceland has gone from "very likely qualifier" to just "likely qualifier". |

Re: Iceland
Im with ss on this one - they've switched it to the type of song that always sounds good on the night but struggles to pick up votes when it counts.
I remember playing the outright markets in play in 2008, and after numerous songs and very little odds movement, Iceland came on with their dancey number and the market went crazy for it - 100+ down to under 30 in a matter of minutes, but it still limped home in 14th, and I think the 2008 package was much better than big Hera. However, if they get a big smoke machine and do some kind of volcanic ash skit then I'll vote for it. |

Re: Iceland
I think Iceland, Denmark and maybe Albania will differs the most from what Eurovision fans likes comparing to what the juries/public will like. Icelands entry are not that far from Swedens entry in 2008. That one did great in the polls and among the bookies but failed big time and the jury did save it in the semi. Eurodisco does't seems to appeal Europe anymore. I think this could qualify anyway, but i'm not sure of it.

Re: Iceland
She can sing well enough (obviously - she's not exactly there as eye candy) and it's not reeeeally all that bad. Just dated sounding. It's a little bit of welcome relief from some of the depressing shit around this year if that helps with anything? I could go either way with this one depnding on my mood I think.
