Re: Eurovision - The Aftermath
Of course we will Beanie, nobody in power has any fucking bottle so they'll just carry on regardless... besides the payoff on Wogans contract would likely triple the national debt

Re: Eurovision - The Aftermath
I think we should stand up and be counted, all this by to the finals doesn't help our cause.
Also even we were correctly predicted on who we would pick for 12 points by that person you quoted Beanie and we ain't political. It's all a matter of taste to each country + if it's an ok song. If it was as easy as this votes for that then the same country would win every year but not so. Israel would have done even better if it had had a later slot and Russia wouldn't have won if it hadn't been so near the end. BUT Russia and Greece will always do well with a half decent song. |

Re: Eurovision - The Aftermath
I don't think I need to say where I'm coming from.
It's bloody shocking. It actually renders the whole thing pointless when you know the shit is always going to be up there. And we struggle to bet on it as the odds are always so short but then of course people will say it's value blah blah.... I didn't see a single performance that came close to that Portugal girl and the fact that pathetic slimy Russian won so easily just makes me pah-uke. And the fact she finished where she did is blummin' unbelievable to me. "But it's Portugal Mick'. Exactly. Talent means nothing. If she was Russian.... bastards. You know these fuckers that just vote for countries and don't even listen..... I'm wishing bad things upon them now. Amen. ![]() |

Re: Eurovision - The Aftermath
That was my take on it after last year DD and still before this years contest - I still want to believe it, but there must be about 20 odd countries that can't win, no matter what they enter, and that's bad news for any contest. It was good to see Israel get 9th from a bad draw tho.
My problem with this year is that all the top 4 were so badly sung on the night - and they still won by a country mile. I don't believe you can win with geography alone as like you say, then the same song would win every year, but it's the fact that some absolutely stonking performances struggled so much, while the countries like Greece, Ukraine and Russia entered nothing imaginative and didnt sing well but can still poll that far ahead of the others. |

Re: Eurovision - The Aftermath
Did we not know beforehand what a total farce this competition was from the outset?
Maybe more western nations will pull out and Russia will win it every year, who knows or cares, the world will carry on regardless. For me its an opportunity to punt and have a laugh at our eastern european friends who have been tied up in petty border disputes/rivalries since the fall of Rome to make something of themselves. The very thought of regional pride is prehistoric in todays world and the fact millions of eastern folks were willing to pickup a phone and pay to show it, serves to show what a waste of time it is trying to appeal to an advanced notion of artistic appreciation or respect from them. In return for their blatant lack of regard for voting on individual merits rather than the countries they represent, we should in turn regard the "contest" as a total farce. |

It must be bad, Terry says he's thinking about not presenting anymore.

Re: Eurovision - The Aftermath
Terry Wogan is raging I'm just reading although he doesn't seem to appreciate the UK entry was widely regarded as shit. No way was it worse than Spain though so I'll give him that.
I actually enjoy all the fury and outrage side too. I love taking apart some of these entries every year then going ballistic as they sail into the top 10. Bastards. ![]() |
