I have to say Graeme Souness has almost talked me into having a decent sized bet on Deportivo tomorrow night against newcastle. The amounts of times he said 'We'll have our hands full' I lost count of. Some of the key points he was making included

Preperation has been far from ideal, they havent been able to sign the players they wanted. A lot of players are also injured such as Dyer, Bramble and Emre.

Deportivo have a cracking record at home in Europe and also have a new manager in a team filled with international players

Mr C - I am totally with you and going against Newcastle.

Not only are Dyer, Bramble and Emre not playing. They are also missing Parker, Jenas and Chopra is a doubt at the minute.

The main loss for them here is Dyer as he goes into another level in European games away as his pace is hard to cope with and Newcastle know this and use it to their strength.

You have to wonder where the goals and creativity from Newcastle is going to come from.

Shearer isn't near the level he once was. His use these days is holding ball up, winning headers and free kicks. The goals he scores are limited to penalties, free kicks and tap ins. So if you can cut off the service to him through that way your half way to winnings the battle.

Partnering him will either be Ameobi or Chopra and really, neither of the Deportivo defence should have any trouble in coping with them.

Their midfield will be very weak compared to normal and will be made up i would imagine of Bowyer, Butt, Faye, Milner and N Zhogbia. No real top quality there.

For me its Deportive all the way tonight. I would be very surprised if they didnt overcome this Newcastle side and i can see Tristan and Luque having a field day tonight.

Egaleo v Vilinius - first game saw Vilinius backed from 4.50 down to 1.70, won 3-1, Egaleo fielded what was supposedly a reserve/youth team. 2nd leg in Vilinius, Egaleo backed down from odds above 6.00 to 1.30 and lower. Field same reserve/youth team. Go 2-0 down early on only to win 3-2 with 2 penalties. Think between the 2 games there was over £1m traded on Betfair.

Dodgy as but the Egaleo coach was the same person who was in charge of Panionios last season - they of the "fixed" game with Tblisi of Georgia in the UEFA Cup groups.

The rumour mill is fairly uninteresting for my part. They've probably been wrong more times than they've been right but I'm saying that 9,00 for a home win is too large here under any circumstances and if the fix argument holds sway I might even get me 13,00 matched!

As usual most of us not "in the know" have missed the good prices on Cluj. 2.00 and above on Betfair at points and decentish money at below 2.00 and also round about the 1.67 - 1.60 mark. Fair bit on at 1.40-ish as well.

From what I have read, the arguement goes that surely Vilinius won't do a 3rd fixed game in about 10 days. But then again no one thought the 2nd leg of Vilinius v Egaleo would be dodgy just 7 days after the first.

Cluj are apparently a "clean" Romanian side and a few Romanian's saying they will never be involved in dodgy games. However as is also pointed out it only needs one team not to try to allow the other to win. Cluj don't actually have to be in on it.

Cluj are also the better of the two sides, or at least have the better Intertoto form having knocked out Athletic Bilbao and St Etienne in previous 2 rounds. Their coach is complaining of tiredness though and saying the tie will be decided in the 2nd leg, not this one.

All in all, with the prices as they are its a leave alone. If I had been on Cluj at 1.67 or above I would be sitting happy now as I do feel there is no smoke without fire. However as Peter says these games don't always go according to "plan". For those who think it might not, 1.28 could be a good lay of the away side.

I have laid Cluj for 1pt liability. Esentially backed Zalgirus 1X at 4.30 which is pretty good. This will be my outside bet for the night
