Re: Champions League - Tuesday 26th July

Liverpool Over 2.5: this looks good , all things considered. Benny and his Jets won't be wanting to make any slip ups against what is obviously a decent enough side. Goals have been remarkable easy for them of late, and there's no reason to suspect a lack of confidence within the side suddenly developing in front of goal.

Thun +1.5 : I agree with some of the others on this one...Kiev HAVE gotten good results against far better teams in the past, but those 2 wins in their league games were against 2 pretty poor sides..." scrabble score" went on to lose both their games without scoring a goal, and Stal stalled!..big time ...they appear to be the GIMPS of ther league.
Based solely on CURRENT form KIev are not firing on all cylinders.
Again , it's always worth backing a winning mare 'in season', AND football squads brimming with confidence. I see them getting at least 1 tonight, and probably being the first to score, in which case it should be settled as a winner.

Re: Champions League - Tuesday 26th July

Haka were dumped out of Europe by Stabæk last season agg 6-2 (Stabæk relegated that same season) so I don't think there's any question about the difference in abilities here.
Worries me a bit that Vålerenga ground out some very boring 0-0s in their quest for glory last time and they're relatively inexperienced at this foreign stuff.
Still, I think Rekdal has something very promising going here and they should put Haka away without too much trouble.

Where's Flo? No idea, Crowie. But then he never knew, either.

Re: Champions League - Tuesday 26th July

It looks like Tore Andre Flo is available for the game tonight but he looked very out of sorts in his debut on Sunday v Ham Kam. Magne Hoset, who seemed to have some success with FC Copenhagen and is a Norwegian internationalist, was also brought in and appears to be eligible. However Flo will not compensate for the loss of Iversen it seems.

Good point on Haka's struggles with Stabaek last season Peter. Performances of that "quality" should see a safe home win tonight.

Re: Champions League - Tuesday 26th July

Reading the form and all that jazz - got to agree the wins for Kiev, Anderlecht, Liverpool and Valerenga. 6/4 the fourfold.

Worth a dabble IMO.

Think the over bet in the Liverpool game must have a decent shout.

Bigkegman.

FTKaunas (Lit)1 - 3Liverpool (Eng)

A clear victory of Anderlecht, a not so clear victory of Liverpool. So stake the second match . Valerenga isn´t in the next round sure!

I've been impressed with the improvement in Swiss sides over the last few seasons - both in Champions League and UEFA Cup - and Kiev seem to be slow starters to me playing in a very weak domestic league.

The +1.5 goal start is big - and if Thun can score then I think they'll beat it - but it is definately NOT a sure thing.

Also ...

We've got a total of four games up on the http://www.goonersguide.com site now, with Litmanen also wading in with calls on :
- Brondby,
- Famagusta (double chance)
- and Anderlecht to thrash Neftchi Baku at home (so he's on the -2 handicap).

Full explanations on the site ... but all three suggestions look reasonable options.
That's 4 winners from 4 tonight - and the bank is well boosted for the start of the season. In the end all 4 picks even had a goal to spare ...
:loon

THAT'S why we bet on pre-season football eh ? Now - let's not lose it all on Wednsday night ...
