Hate backing teams away from home in europe but Bayern is a standout bet at 1.55, the dons got thrashed 5-1 today by Celtic at home and back that bayerns international stars deliver the goods. Werder and Sporting look good bets at home on first glance as well as Marseille.

Re: UEFA Cup: 13th & 14th Feb

Good man Nap. I was just in for some of this. Can anyone tell a UEFA cup novice (these days) like me if this is knockout or group stages still? thanks

I can't help but think that it could be one of them famous Aberdeen European nights myself Cinny. I don't mean that they have a resounding win v Euro's elite i just mean that they manage to avoid defeat and thats enough cause for celebration. Calderwood's face in the papers the next day after a famous 0-0 home draw Were'nt Aberdeen in pretty bad shape before the celtic game? The odds on the german team are too low for me.

Rangers at home to Panathinaikos doesnt do much for me either. Under 2.5 goals? Tottenham in Eastern Euro i always like to scrape a win. I wouldnt be on them at odds on though although i would be interested in folks thoughts on Slavia Prague. The Spaniards have to have a chance at Bolton dont they?

Re: UEFA Cup: 13th & 14th Feb

Aberdeen could have 6 main first team regulars out!!! I managed to get 4/7 yesterday as at the moment the dons are a shambles. Every dandy i know has backed Bayern which was the same for Celtic at the weekend (myself included) although some of my mates (honest i've got some) backed Celtic on the handicap to win by more than 2 at 5/1. Just can't see past Bayern who imho should be nearer 2/5.

If Panathinaikos play like they did against Aberdeen then i can see an easy Rangers win as i was not impressed with them although very impressed at their sly shots which was free drinks when you bought a drink - Athens (great place!!!)

Agree completely Milners.

Who is it def out so far...McNamara Maybury and Young definately out. Then you have another 3 who are doubts.

Aberdeen are a shambles at the minute. Two big drubbings in a row and they aren't playing good football at all.

Langfield who has been reliable before at times is now looking like a donkey and making errors every game.

Not enough firepower either.

Again, the same for Rangers. Aberdeen went 3-0 down to the Greeks but they more than held there own and the score flattered Panathinaikos to be honest.

Rangers are rather solid at home and thats against far stronger sides. +2.00 on them is a pretty decent bet IMO.

You going to Munich game Milners?

Re: UEFA Cup: 13th & 14th Feb

the six that are struggling are:

Barry Nicholson, Zander Diamond, Darren Mackie, Richard Foster, Derek Young and Jamie Smith.

Nicholson i think is out - massive blow as he is our midfield, Zander Diamond has been Aberdeen best defender and Derek Young has had a good season even though limited with talent has been one of our better players. Jamie Smith has that wee bit of magic while Foster and Mackie can be poor at times but Mackie has the pace to trouble defenders. Byrne i think is missing as well - thats a boost!!!

Haven't missed an Aberdeen game this season including all the away trips and going to Munich. But i'm thinking of packing the away games in this season as Aberdeen games have been one of the worst ever to watch. Oh while i'm on a roll - Hibs 13/10 against, yip i think i'll be on that even though we have a decent record there.

Re: UEFA Cup: 13th & 14th Feb

An update on the injury situation with the dandies

Out
Byrne
Foster
Young
McNamara
Jamie Smith

Doubts
Diamond
Nicholson
Mackie

I would presume the doubts would make it, Nicholson and Diamond are important to the dons. My concern with those out apart from Derek Young and Jamie Smith now and again those others have been terrible for the dons this season. But the big problem here is foster can play left side of defence and so can Bryne and McNamara so you will see a centre back like considine playing on the left side - scary prospect although it was like that at Copenhagen but they didn't punish us but can see Bayern doing that!!!!

Last UEFA Cup round I looked at the correlation between UEFA country ranking (not club ranking) and match results, with interesting results.

Not too sure how they'll work out for two-legged group games, but worth taking a look anyway. Might be worth favouring the teams over the ties, rather than over individual matches.

-ve number favours the away side, +ve favours the home.

Re: UEFA Cup: 13th & 14th Feb

Thanks Milners and Kiko. Much appreciated. If i hadnt read the above i would have been put off backing Bayern completely. Im for a little on

bayern halftime/full time @ 5/4 with Sportingbet and maybe a bit more on the straight to win.

Your rating system scored impressively last time Nap and i will look in with interest.

Re: UEFA Cup: 13th & 14th Feb

One UEFA Cup game for me, small stakes:

Soccer - Marseille/Spartak Moskova - total Over 2 (-159)
for the regulation time held on Feb 13 at 2:45pm [pending]

French teams at home in Euro comp have been gold on the overs market, so I'll take a stab even with the poor payout (O2 is nice though). Spartak haven't played much for several months, but to me this speaks for more aggressive approach, while Marseille in great form can probably get 2 on their own if need be.

Re: UEFA Cup: 13th & 14th Feb

For those who watched last weekend's game between Aberdeen vs Celtic would have witnessed how shit Aberdeen performed. My first thought for this game was pointing to a Bayern victory of at least a 2 goal margin but then I remembered how BM screwed me up so badly this season and with 4 key players out and Oliver "Cunt" + 2nd choice keeper missing, I wouldn't bet my last dollar on this game at AH of -1.25.

German league leaders Bayern Munich will be without four of their stars for Thursday night's first-leg UEFA Cup clash at Scottish side Aberdeen in the competition's first knock-out round.

With 32 teams still left in the UEFA Cup, Bayern and Aberdeen prepare to battle it out at Pittodrie on Thursday night with the second leg at Munich's Allianz Arena the following week.

But Bayern will be missing French hamstring victim Franck Ribery, midfielder Mark van Bommel who has a knee injury, as well as defender Daniel van Buyten and Willy Sagnol.

Belgian van Buyten is struggling with flu and Frenchman Sagnol has an injured knee.

With captain Oliver Kahn sitting out the trip to Scotland, reserve goalkeeper Michael Rensing may also miss out with a back injury giving third-choice goalkeeper Bernd Dreher a chance.

But Germany defender Marcell Jansen is expected to make his first appearance since November having shaken off an ankle injury.

Aberdeen were humbled 5-1 at home by Scottish giants Celtic on Sunday, while Bayern were held to a 1-1 draw by second-placed Werder Bremen in front of their own fans on the same day.

Re: UEFA Cup: 13th & 14th Feb

Some European football at last

The Russian teams are in the climax of their break now.
That's not the only reason the price of 1.90 for Marseille available at Bet-at-home to look huge to me. Spartak gave up easily when traveling to France last time (against Toulouse), they have qualified mind. But Marseille should take full advantage at Velodrom today. No way they will miss the Russians. It's gonna be hard for them in the 2nd leg in Moscow, so I thing they'll aim for a victory and a 2-goal winning margin at least. And they are capable of achieving it. Repeating myself, great price.

Marseille @1.90 - 7/10

Brann Bergen are still in a break also, but should Everton be that short playing in Norway?

AEK Athens are a decent team, I watched them several times on TV in the Greek league and Getafe will have troubles today I reckon.
Bet 365's price of 2.40 looks OK to me, although there are better ones.
Small bet on AEK Athens @2.40 - 2/10

Bremen should have too much for Braga and also should PSV have for Helsingborg, so a double looks good to me:
PSV + Werder @1.90 - 5/10
