18th June Russia v Sweden

18 Jun 19:45 Russia v Sweden 2.50 3.30 2.60
Odds Bet365

Not much whatsoever between these two and if anything I'd go along with Sweden due to their experience in these matches, russia have youth on their side but the Swedes put up one hell of a match against the Spaniards and seem to be getting better as each game progresses unlike the Russians who seem to be huffing and puffing their way through.

Ibrahimavich is also showing what he can do for a change in a major tournament whilst Larsson keeps on defying his age and looked pretty sharp in his last outing, if he kicks into gear then alongside Ibrahimavich, they have a potent strike force that should be to strong for the Russians.

Isaksson also looks good and is no doubt using these games as a shop window, pity the bugger never had the same frame of mind last month at the Riverside.

Sweden win.

Soccer - EURO 2008
Sweden - Russia
Pick: 1 unit Draw no bet @ 1,90 SportingBet
18 of June 19:45

A match of nerves is expected, where the beginning of the game would be very cautious from the both parts because no one wants to waste the chance of qualification.

With the time passing it is to wait that Russia takes the control of the match because the russians needs to win, and Sweden only needs a draw due to the difference of golos between both.

In this meeting, the experience and “nerve” of the players will be decisive, and in that aspect i think that the Swedish team will be in advantage because counts in his team with players as Mellberg, Ljungberg or Larsson.

On the Russian side, we have a younger team that couldn´t be able to hang on the pressure of a game where everything will be decided.

Moreover, Sweden demonstrated against Spain that is one team more consistent, that allows little mistakes in the defensive sector, in contrast to a Russia that was beaten in counterattack for the “Spanish fury”, and is important to hold back that Ibrahimovic only played 45 minutes last match, and so he will present himself in conditions for this meeting, and followed by Larsson, Ljungberg and Elmander, could be very dangerous for the Russia, that will have press the adversary and that should open spaces in the defensive sector that could be fatal to the russians.

This conjugation of factors points in the direction of a Swedish victory, through the exploration of the Russian advancing on the pitch, so in my opinion this match should end with a victory of the scandinavian team.

EURO 2008 - NET GAINS

Wednesday's Tips - published on June 17

3pts Sweden to beat Russia at 15/8 (Sky Bet)

Sweden require only a draw from Wednesday’s game in the Tivoli Neu to finish above Russia by virtue of goal difference and book a place in the quarter-finals against Holland on Saturday. So while circumstances guarantee that they will approach this game with a fair degree of caution, the Russians’ greater need for the maximum haul could also play into the hands of Lars Lagerback’s men. The Swedes are notoriously calm and collected in most of what they do and they possess a team of which the core has been together for many years, so we shouldn’t really entertain the idea that they could suddenly bring about their own downfall with a dose of the defensive jitters. The onus will purely be on Guus Hiddink’s men to carve the Scandanavians open with some intricate link-up play. The possible return of Andrei Arshavin from suspension could increase the chances of that happening because the Zenit St Petersburg man is a top quality player, but his absence from the opening two games could also have a negative impact on his performance in Innsbruck. Hiddink has hinted that he might even use Arshavin as a substitute due to his general lack of fitness and while the Dutchman might be indulging in a spot of mind games there, we should take him at face value when he says their tournament has been a success regardless of what happens now. The Russians are never short of technical ability but Hiddink knows their limits with regards to other more disciplined aspects of the game and Sweden should stay composed enough to expose them shortcomings by twisting the knife on the counter attack.

Russia v Sweden - Innsbruck

It's set to be a tense affair in Innsbruck as both sides chase the final quarter-final spot at Euro 2008. The winner takes all but the draw will favour Sweden who have the superior goal difference.

The Swedes battled their way to a solid, if not spectacular, 2-0 victory over the disappointing Greeks while they were rather unfortunate to lose to David Villa's last-gasp strike in their second match having frustrated Spain for long periods.

As we always expect, Sweden have proved to be a well-drilled, industrious outfit but apart from the enigmatic Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the evergreen Henrik Larsson, they lack the spark and adventure to make a significant impact.

It is very much a case of same old Sweden and we feel Guus Hiddink's Russia have a little bit more about them and should be backed at a best of 7/4 to sneak a victory.

Sure, they were thumped by Spain and only beat Greece 1-0, courtesy of Konstantin Zyryanov's first-half effort, but the margin should have been greater had they converted a number of clear chances.

As we saw during the qualification stages, Russia do have plenty of promise in their ranks but also have the tendency to blow either hot or cold. Hiddink, however, is grooming his side to become less fragile and more creative and who can argue with the master tactician's credentials.

He has a habit of taking underdog nations - South Korea and Australia - beyond the group stages of major tournaments and as it comes to the crunch once again he certainly has a group of players capable of succeeding and ending Sweden's European dreams.

Verdict: Russia 2 Sweden 1

Re: 18th June Russia v Sweden

The Russians are placing a lot of emphasis on the retirn of Andrei Arshavin, and he could be the key that unlocks the impressive Sweden back line.

As yobinad points out the swedes have an abundance of experience with Larrson , Mellberg and Ljungberg . 3 big games in a few days may catch up with Henrik , especially the way he has ran around for the cause , doing his and Ibrhimovich's shif too.
Mellberg is key for me , I'm leaning toward the Russians here and I just feel he cant have the same level of intensity against the ruskies as he did v Spain , a bitter blow for the whole team that late Villa winner.
Freddie for me has been a liability , and should not play if form was the only factor. His forte was arriving late at speed in the box and finishing things off, now he just arrives late everywhere.

Russias experience is on the bench , Hiddink knows how to win , even with poor teams. I am backing the youth of the team and the wiley campaigner on the bench tonight , there's enough negatives against Sweden too.
Small bet Russia

Re: 18th June Russia v Sweden

I am with the Russians here also.

Sweden now are placing their side on too much emphasis on the experience of their side. Players like Ljunberg, Larsson etc might have moments of magic but over full 90 mins they are nowhere near as dangerous as before.

I dont even think Ljunberg should be anywhere near the starting line up but thats for another arguement.

They are your typically stuffy swedish side to break down but Russia have the Techinical players to break through them for sure.

Ibrahimovic is the star of the side but even he has scored 1 goal in 2 and a half years and he is nowhere near as prolific for Sweden as he is for Inter.

The Russians are a team i like. Got rolled over it seems 4-1 to Spain but they werent really that bad and created chances and caused the Spanish problems.

Technically they are a very good side in the competition and with Arshavin back from suspension will be good news as he will be pulling the strings.

And lets not forget we have Hiddink who for me is the best coach inthe world. Never failed to get out the group stages with ANY side and I have faith in him to get the job done.

Russia win for me!!

Re: 18th June Russia v Sweden

A tighter game you could not find, and to find a winner is even harder !!!

However with that in mind I can only see a low scoring game, and I was surprised at the 4/6 on offer for under 2.5 goals with Totesport - even the Bet365 price of 1.6 seems very reasonable

Russia v Sweden - under 2.5 goals

Re: 18th June Russia v Sweden

i on the same bet as betfly Sweden -0 ,similar to DNB , based on both teams being similar , both sides will create chances but i think Sweden have the more experienced strikers and that what you need in such a close match up plus a lot of luck , so i'm hoping for the luck will be on the Swedish sides
