How to Download all Your Fav Albums - Direct Connect Guide

Whey hey im all excited. I got hold of a new hard drive (thanks Slick) its 80gb. the biggest Direct connect share ive had is 18gb. Im going for a big 50 share

so anyhow i'll be filling my new drive with avi movies to get my share up as i lent all my DVD of mp3s to my brother. Im gonna rip all the avis back off disks and convert them all to a codec that mky divx player plays with less judder. I'll do a thread on that too.

Ive loads to do but i should have my 50gb share for about 8pm and then im going hunting for the rarest rock bootleg hubs i can find. Im gonna download loads So if you want to get into Direct Connect then i'lll show you how on this thread and if you want any of my movies (loads a good stuff) then i'll tell you the hubs i'll be in later and your welcome to have a browse.

Ok i might as well start. I only have a 20gb share but thats better as you guys wont have a big share possibly. If you want any hubs to look into then check out the other threads. Im gonna start at 20gbs and work my way up

STEP ONE

Get this - DC++

and install


Next you are gonna need to have a share of at least 1gc of films or mp3 files. No ripped dvds though (vob) Probably best to avoid porn files to for the moment unless your just in it for the porn. If you dont have any files then your gonna need to find a no share hub. I dont have a share yet in my new drive so i'll go find a hub with no share restrictions so as you can dload 1gbs worth of stuff and more in time to get you into the sexxyland where im just off to in a moment. The treasures that await me are many. Same for you too.

ooo just popped some Filthy rich in Catflap in my share there. It might be popular so i'll be charging for slots (slots = you allow only so many people to download from you. Say you choose 4 slots. that means that 4 people can download from you at once. If your upload speed aint good then the 4 of them will get shite download speeds shared between them. You dont want to be one of them 4 people. You want to find a file and get it from someone with 4/4 free slots (4 free slots from 4 open) Then you'll get their full upload speed. Trick is to get someone with all slots open or else someone with a superspeed line (8mbs+) I use wa lot of scandanavian hubs as they seem to have a lot of fast connections for me to get but sadly 1/5th of all my films have swedish subtitles. The worst is The Acid house which has Russian speech over the top. Got the brit version too since tho

Once it starts up it should have some icons like these top left corner-



click the one marked (options)

then a box like this will appear-



[retty straightforward. Im on a 1mb line and chose DSL as my connection. If your on 512k to 2mb i presume its all DSL. If your on 56k then dont get direcet connect as i dont want to wait a week for a film

Make sure this is on Active to start with. If you have a firewalll then it could cause you probs. I dont have any probs with zone alarm and it but have in my time. Dont worry you'll be ok. Just leave it on Active for now.

Next choose where you want your downloads to go.



I think you can leave the Unfinished Download Directory as it should default and you dont need to worry about incomplete files the now. I change my download slots (5 in pic) to suit. If i was on 2mb i'd prob have about 8 or 9.

CONFIGURE PUBLIC HUB LISTS

all this is is that there are lists of all the hubs (virtual shops) and you can display them. As you can see im pretty greedy and have a few hublists. some have the same stuff on them as others but the more the merrier i say.

ok now make a folder (right click and then select make new folder) somewhere in your computer and put your 'share' in it. Put anything you can find. Its a bugger when your just outside a hub share limit and your putting word docs in there to get in.



it will take a while to HASH your files but dont worry its just a new thingy to protect ...actuallky i dont know why they do it now. Anyone?

chose one then click REFRESH and you should see this-

double click any hub in main window to enter.

now SEARCH



put in the name and chose waht type of file you want. Albums 99.99% are in DIRECTORYS



And thats ab out it. Remember you can sort the search results by clicking the top of each colum. I tend to have the most free slots at the top and then look down for somone with about 5/5 or similar. any questions just ask
