My first point is merely following up something komp did.

Following my initial disgust at the PM controversy at PL I registered with The Betting Advice Forum last Friday and in fact wrote a few posts there.

I have now edited my signature at that forum to read "can also be found at www.thedailypunt.com" . I propose to continue to post there as a means of promoting your baby.

However, this being the end of the footie season and with me off to Berlin for 9 days from this weekend it may no be terribly effective just yet.

Perhaps others may like to do something similar.

My second point concerns our friends at punters paradise. I see that a few have dropped by with good wishes.

The last bust up with PL was before my time. I do not know any of the personalities involved and until the last few days I have never visited their forum.

I can therefore give an objective opinion about them and I hope that they do not take offence if they do not entirely agree with my thoughts.

Anyway, they all seem like very decent pleasant, honest and dedicated punters. But I don't get the impression that it is very vibrant or that there is any great drive or enthusiasm. Now maybe that suits the present members to have their own cosy club but it doesn't encourage newcomers.

If they are hoping to grow then it could be to the mutual benefit of both forums if there was some sharing of posters/tipsters with similar signatures as mentioned above pointing out to casual lurkers/readers that the other forum exists

I totally agree with cliques etc being bad for any community and and have alway endevoured in the past to encourage new posters and to try and smash any cliques. This is one of my reasons for why i was so harsh on 'msn type' threads as its a public forum and it should be of interest to every poster alike new or old.

I also recommend we dont do race meets etc as i think that creates feeling of cliques etc.

cheers for the BA link in your sig WAS. I was over there this morning and signed up as thedailypunt.com and have a mention of kompressaur in my sig. Put some legal spam in their spam forum. We dont have to spam other forums. Well not in a planly rude way. We'll treat other forums as we expect to be treated. With national ads and email extraction devices and some google hacks we'll be doing ok.

Oviously when we're bigger than BA & PL combinded we'll have to shutoff all the dodgy forums to only memebers with 100+ posts etc and we'll get them hosted off the domain name so being a bit dodgy is a bonus.

I have no axe to grind with any of the guys in PP Was but I've got to be honest and say that I've posted in there now and again since it was set up and, in general, I found it too cliquey (is that a word?)

I posted under a couple of alias names and, to be absolutely blunt, I happen to post something that disagreed with the ramblings of one of the mods and was roundly set upon by the rest of them in turn until I got to the point when I thought "Fukk em, with this attitude they don't deserve new posters", and sure enough they don't get any (If an example is needed, this forum has more visitors on it right now than PP and how long has it been established? Hardly a demonstration that they welcome new members is it?)

As you say, it is a cosy club that doesn't welcome newcomers and the members probably like it like that. Which begs the question, why try to encourage newbies to visit there if they're going to face the cold shoulder.

I certainly won't be encouraging anyone to visit there.

Just looked at this thread for the first time in any detail.

Odds, Doc, Parahandy and Crowie have been superb to TDP since it opened and I'm grateful for their input on the new forum. I didn't visit the PP very often (if at all really) so I wouldn't like to comment how cliquey or not they might be.

Odds and Doc are still very committed to, and active at the PP so their conduct over here should be applauded.

I, for one, do not want to repay their reasonable attitude by having a thread critisising their forum. Of course it is everyones right to post an opinion but I would like peace to reign these pastures new. This isn't an edict. It's a polite request. We don't want any wars, bitterness or arguments with any forum. Not with the PL. Or the PP.

We welcome comment, good or bad, as long as it is fair. I am sure you know that we would not come on your board under an unknown username, fire childish abuse at your regular members and then go to another forum about 6 months later and complain that you did not make us very welcome. :frown2:

I'd concur with Odds, re fair criticism.
Without wanting to rehash arguments I think Onedunmes characterisation of the happenings are a little one-sided. His initial postings were, shall we say, a little imtemperate, although he certainly made some valid points (football and otherwise) later in the thread once he calmed down (here for anyone interested).
I also seem to remember Onedunme posting some time later at PL indicating it had been a 'shit-stirring' attempt?

Either way its a long time in the past, and I'd be happy to see Onedunme or anyone else here for that matter posting over at our place. Fairness and courtesy, same as expected here and in most places, are all that we would ask for.

Doctor, either your memory has failed you or you are lying, and I'm assuming its the former. I made no such comments about shit stiring in the PL

It was never my intention to shit stir, merely to make the point that it was a knee jerk reaction to a one off performance against (what the poster admitted himself) what was a crap team.

I would never have bothered digging the thread up again but Im glad you have because it shows that everything I said (back in September) was absolutely spot on. It was an over-reaction to think that Untited were suddently world beaters again and, if you'd like to re-read my quote...

I stopped going there because you could post in a thread and then go back a week later and nobody had responded. Not my idea of fun.

Anyway, I didn't set out to offend anyone back in September and I don't mean to offend anyone now but I will speak my mind until the time when I'm either banned or edited (which, incidently, has happened only once in the many years that I've been posting).

I'm sure you thought it was fun posting anonymously. I had no idea at the time it was you on the wind-up and treated you as I would any new poster who started off by throwing abuse about. In these circumstances I think it is very unfair of you to paint such a negative picture of the forum using a situation that you have admitted to engineering as evidence to support that view.

1. I NEVER (not in this forum or the PL) said that I'd intended to go in there as a wind up (and therefore, to make it plain, am not admitting to engineering the situation).


2. I agree that to some the words " Where the fuk did you ever get the idea that Turkey were ranked third in the world?" may seem harsh in the cold light of day but, to me, anyone who issues an opinion on football who comes out with a suggestion that ridiculous, franky, deserves any ridcule they get.

As I said before, you made several valid points in that thread, some of which you have repeated above. That said, if you had 'opened' your discussion in a pub with a remark like "If this sums up your knowledge of football, I wont even bother wasting my time arguing with you." - the opening line of the post you quote above (your 3rd on our forum), you'd have been punched in the chops.

I think in the circumstances you were treated with as much or more respect than you would get on any forum, walking in as a newcomer and throwing insults around. Had you declared yourself under your 'real identity' - i.e. Onedunme as known to many/most of us at the time, then I'm sure you would have gotten plenty of harmless banter back and forward. Just the same as you could make the comment above in the pub to a bunch of mates and expect no more than some verbal jousting (depends on the mates I suppose )

anyhow, I don't really want to prolong the 'debate' here. I believe the thread itself speaks enough to the matter, and people can make up their own minds.

Your other opinions on PP, its quietness etc, are, as Odds, has said, fair and valid viewpoints and I've no problem or issue with you expressing them here or wherever else you choose.

Also, as I've said, I regard the matter as in the past and I wouldn't have any issue with you posting in PP again, should you ever wish to. We'd know at least one of your aliases at least
