There could be an awful lot of decent jobs up for grabs in the summer; England, Man U, Rangers, Portugal, Real Madrid to name but a few - Newcastle comes way down the pile.
how come you're so bitter & twisted towards the mags???

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Dont think anybody hates them. As I said theyre a decent neutral club but the way Freddie Shepherd talks you'd think theyre arsenal in disguise, I think theres an undercurrent of feeling that theyve done nowhere enough as a club to carry themselves in the lofty status that they believe themselves to be occupying.

Mind you, If I'm right in thinking that our lack of central midfield muscle might enable Newcastle to win today then maybe I will hate them

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Aye summer Swoops and i'd be amazed if Fat Freddy was to install him as manager.

I really think Le Guen wholooks Rangers bound would've been an excellent acquisition for the Geordies as his record issecond to none and he has done it at the top leve.

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

I still dont believe the MON stories about Newcastle. Whys he gonna go there ?? No disrespect to them (for once) but if its a choice between them & Man Utd its a no brainer. Also hes not supposedly prepared to be able to make a choice for a few weeks whereas I read Shepherd wants somebody for next weekend.....if theres anything in it hes probably trying to force Englands & Uniteds hand by sounding interested in Newcastle

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Unless he has had direct contact from Man Utd saying he will get it next i don't think he will run the risk of taking it for granted that the job is his. I mean Sir Alex keeps putting off his retirement so for all we know it coould come 3-4 years down the line.

Newcastle is a club with some good quality players and a chairman who will give O Neil the funds to improve the side and take them to the next level, something that was lacking atCeltic after the UEFA cup run.

I think it could be a good move for both parties to be honest.

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

What's there to do in 'managing' a club anyway? I reckon I could do it. Seriously. Get myself an expert tactician , fitness coach , good scouting system and away I'd go.

Seems to me it's all about getting the players to believe in themselves, create a real sense of team spirit and avoid having the 'one team one star' syndrome that you can see all over the world.

Newcastle = Shearer Arsenal = Henry Liverpool = Gerrard Manyoo= Rooney
...so often the rest of the squad read and see the attention they are given and end up believeing that without them in the team they aren't as good. I know this is a slight generalisation , but look at Celtic and Henrik...he WAS Celtic
Bayern Munich and Ballack...Real and Ronaldo...Barca and Ronaldhino....

A good squad is one where you can take out anyone and still maintain the level of excellence. I think it's detrimental to have 1, often 2 players without whom everyone worries.

Bit of a ramble...need a fag now anyway...anyone remember the tv show "Scully" ..the episode when King Kenny Dalglish was in it?..brilliant.

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Send Newcastle your CV Eddy. I wouldn't put it past Fat Freddy giving you some serious consideration

A new name i am going to throw in was the recently sacked ex Stuttgart boss Giovanni Trappatoni.

Bit in the Sir Bobby Robson mould and filled with plenty of experience. Coached at a high job all his managerial career etc and he could maybe be the wise head they need.

He worked wonders in the Portugeuse league last season was it with Benfica?

Definately worth some consideration i would say.

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

funnily enough cakes, I backed Le Guen at 130/1 today.

I reckon he could be using Rangers to barter a better deal with newcastle.....

Freddy needs a manager ASAP, I can see the only ones that would accept a job now rather than wait for the WC are probably Ranieri, Le Guen and all the usual candidates....

I honestly cant see MON being newcastle manager, that would disappoint me greatly if he took that job. A total lack of ambition IMO.

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Newcastle are reported to be ready to open talks with former Bayern Munich chief Ottmar Hitzfeld about the vacant managerial position at St James' Park.

This would be great news for Newcastle as he is one of the most respected managers around after winning the champions league with 2 different clubs!

Re: Newcastle Managers Position

Cakes - on betfair - Currently 100/1 - was as high as 300/1 according to them!!

If shepherd lands Hitzfeld, he must be the master of bullshit! I Honestly cant see why he would want to venture there - he has nothing to prove and they have nothing to offer him. A poor squad, disenchanted players and limited funds.

I would say its going to be an up and coming manager, like Le Guen

  • Was just thinking there, the best type of "fuck off " is the following; You`re playing astro, 5 a side, someone shouts "handball" and the "fuck off" response is fucking class.
