Re: Highland League 3/1/06

Here is highland league.net prices from local bookies:

Picking out the bets that are good value for money may be the secret of a good gambler, playing the odds (although to me only backing winners must be the only surefire way to success).

So what odds this week may catch the eye? Well first up we have Wick at 5/2 to beat Clach in Inverness. Then there is Cove at 9/2 to win at Mosset Park. Lossie to complete the grand slam against Rothes is 7/4, showing the bookies feel that the last result was merely a 25/1 fluke, meanwhile Brora Rangers are 6/1 to complete the double against Nairn County.

For those of you who fancy the handicap betting Brora's goal and a half start against Nairn is the pick of the bunch and what about Fort with a 5.5 goal start against the Locos?

I will leave you to decide what is good value for money but let us know who you are backing, who won you some money and who let you down via our window on the fans world, the Rumours Page.

Re: Highland League 3/1/06

Team news from highland league.net

We have six teams ready to open their gates for the first time in 2006 and six sets of first footers ready to step across the threshold but whether or not they will be swapping coal for points remains to be seen.

Table toppers Deveronvale will make the short trip to Keith with only Ross Bremner missing as they look to extend their five game winning run. Midfielder Paul Urquhart is a doubt due to a virus. The Maroons will be without the suspended Kris Niddrie who is set to be replaced by Derek Nicol who comes back from a ban. Alan Fraser is also set to return.

Forres Mechanics continue to climb the table and with games in hand they could still go top. However they won't have it easy this weekend as Cove Rangers travel to Mosset Park well rested after a lack of games in recent weeks. Suspended duo Scott Fraser and Gary Clark are the only absentees.

Steve Mackay will miss this one having been red carded in the win at Wick last weekend and Andy Matheson continues to be a doubt. Michael Morrison could return to the squad having served his club suspension.

Nairn County's Steven Edwards will finally return having served his 8 match suspension as the Station Park side travel to Brora but given his team mates record of 7 wins in 8 during his ban he may have to wait a little longer to see some playing time. Brora will be without defender Gordon Mackenzie but should have Shane Sutherland and Mark Kennedy back in the starting line up.

Having suffered at the hands of Nairn and Forres last week both Clach and Wick will be hoping for a Happy New Year when they clash in Inverness. The Lilywhites will be without Jed Douglas and will check on the fitness of Andrew Neill and Steve Macdonald. However both Gary Ross and Neil MacCuish are available for selection. Wick will once again miss skipper Martin Gunn who is suspended and top scorer Jamie Mackenzie.

Lossiemouth caused one of the upsets of the season so far by trouncing Fraserburgh 4-2 at the Bellslea on Christmas Eve and with three wins out of three against Rothes this season they will go into this one on a high. The Coasters could make one further addition to the trialist bolstered squad that made the trip to the Broch, as well as welcoming back Joe Lasley, but it seems Graeme Kennedy and Neil Garret have simply gone AWOL. Rothes will be without Mark Adam while Kevin Collins and Jamie Miller are doubts.

Finally Fort William's hopes of turning things around in 2006 will not be boosted by the fact that they face a trip to Inverurie in week one. The Locos will still be without Steven Park, Tommy Wilson and Richie Singer while Kenny Coull is a doubt but with Fort having found it hard to pull together a full squad for the longer trips they will be hoping that everything starts going their way after Hogmanay. Jamie Gannon and Michael Taylor are the only two definite absentees for Rab Mulheron's side.

Re: Highland League 3/1/06

Right quick thoughts on this:

On highland league.net they had 41/3 for Nairn but i think its the other way round here as in the handicap its 6/10. Funny enough its 6/10 in bet and win site so thats a poor price match up - take that i suppose.

Clach vs Wick should be a home win although Wick done well at times maybe worth a dable on wick at 8/1 as they are only 5/2 with local bookies, no think i'll stay away from it myself.

Forres vs Cove and Forres favs for the league got to fancy a home win here although 9/2 for Cove is decent price considering Cove are a decent side - 9/1 on bet and win so i've taken that as football is unpredictable.

Keith vs Deveronvale should be a cracker of a time with bet and win pricing this up right.

Inverurie Loco's should thump Fort William by about 8 or 9.

Lossiemouth vs Rothes is a tough game to predict, both teams poor - i was slighty going with Rothes with bet and wins price but staying away.

Good stuff Milners.

There are some amazing discrepancies between local prices and B&W prices. You would have to side with local knowledge in this case considering B&W aren't the sharpest normally.

Re: Highland League 3/1/06

Think there is just about everything we need there milners

As crowie says siding with the local bookie prices would give a shortlise of:

Wick
Nairn
Cove
Inverurie
Rothes

Adding in some team news, and with Wick missing their captain and top scorer I'm going to take them out, and with Rothes having lost 3 times to Lossie this season I'll take them out too.

That leaves Nairn, Cove and the Locos, and I can't find anything in the past results to put me off - so almost identical bets for me too Milners.

So its big(a big bet for small stakes anyway ) on Inverurie, somewhere in the middle for Nairn, and small on Cove.

Re: Highland League 3/1/06

I've kind of went:

5pts - INVERURIE vs Fort William (1/10)
3pts - Brora Rangers vs NAIRN (6/10)
0.5pts - Forres Mechanics vs COVE RANGERS (8/1)
0.5pts - Clach vs WICK ACADEMY (8/1)

Same as you beanie basically although i was put off with Wick but at that price i decided to split both 1pts to 0.5pts.

By the way highland league.net has updates i'll post the relevant matches on here.
