Re: Weekend non-league

Eastbourne have been cut to evens.

I've dug up that report Muze was referring to and what pleasent reading it makes if you're on.......

NEWPORT County are staging their own version of TV talent show X-Factor in a bid to unearth a new manager, with a raft of hopefuls being placed under the spotlight.

There are more managerial candidates than there are players at the club at the moment but they are hoping to have their star man in place by early next week.

Among the names in the frame are believed to be Carmarthen's Mark Aizlewood and Mark Jones, former Forest Green boss Alan Lewer, ex-Barry Town manager Gary Barnett, Taunton's Peter Beadle, ex-Chippenham's Steve White, Jeff Eckhardt, Ton Pentre's Scot Young with Jason Bowen, Bridgend boss Nicky Tucker, ex-Bolton John McGinley, Cwmbran boss Brian Coyne and his captain Jason Perry.

The Argus understands that several have been interviewed already and the board aim to complete the full process by Sunday with an announcement expected early next week.

The club won't confirm who or how many are going through the process and they have not yet decided whether or not the new boss will be employed on a non-contract basis or on a long term deal or if he will be full time or part time.

Meanwhile County have to travel to face Eastbourne on Nationwide Conference South business with what remains of a skeleton squad.

With Antonio Corbisiero, Wayne O'Sullivan and Dominic Reece all having been given the boot, following John Phillips, Nick Harrhy, Kwame Ampadu and Chris Curran out of the exit door, there were only 11 players at training on Tuesday night - including two goalkeepers and two injured players, Jason Bowen and Ian Hillier.

Bowen, who is acting coach alongside caretaker manager Glyn Jones, admits these are testing times but the side will be doing their best to get something from the trip.

"We only had 11 at training on Tuesday, which is not ideal, but we just have to get on with it," Bowen said. "The rest of the team will be made up of kids from the Academy but to be fair to the young lads who played last week, they came in and did ok."

If there are any positives ahead of the match, at least the Academy players are coming off the back of a good victory.

They put Weston out of the FA Youth Cup on Monday. And there may be a comeback for Bowen as well.

"At least one Newport County side are winning," Bowen quipped. "I came through light training ok but of course myself and Hillier are not match fit but there might be a chance of us making it."

A Bowen return would be more than welcome- he has missed all of County's last seven defeats.

Re: Weekend non-league

Extremely speculative punt here (goalscorer bets always are) but Im gona put a small bet on this.

Ive been a fan of Daryl Clare when I saw him bang em in week after week for Chester when they got promoted from the conference winning me quite a few bets on Chester. In his last 3 seasons of conference footie hes notched 72 goals and fired his way to two conf golden boots. Thats 72 in just over 100 games I believe (one season he only played 25).

Hes now at Crawley (after a deadline day switch from league 2 Boston) and his introduction has brought about a fair bit of goalscoring action in Crawleys games since. Hes scored 3 in 6 games since going there and played the full 90 in all games. All 3 goals coming in away games as it happens (though im not sure thats relevant). He also takes penalties. Crawley havent failed to score since he arrived, he obviously adds great attacking threat to their line up and bags of experience at this level.

As been discussed in the thread previous Crawley play away to Altrincham. Theyve conceded 17 in the last 5 games, so are shipping very heavily at the back. An experienced conf striker like Clare must fancy his chances of bagging here and I dont blame him one bit.

At 13/8 to score at bet365 I cant resist a punt as I believe he will for sure have chances to score against Altrincham and I fancy him to bag one of them. Considering he scores in about half his games anyway I think its value.

Its 6/1 for first scorer but im taking the anytime as Crawley concede and score lots so the first goal is a bit of a lottery. I may follow him in future games if priced nicely as well.

Re: Weekend non-league

Great shout that Muze. I think his arrival to ease their attacking frailties was discussed on a thread a few weeks back by Kop aswell. It's certainly one of the reasons I'm backing them (all be it for a point but sometimes it's the principle you know!) tomorrow.

GL with your bet.

Re: Weekend non-league

Histon cut to 1.8
Weymouth cut to 1.72 (didn't back them in the end as there are better 1.8 shots IMO)

Re: Weekend non-league

I was debating with myself whether I was "mug punting" as I normally steam into the coupons as soon as they're released. I questioned this because this can be up to 6 days before the game and there potentially could be some team news I'd be missing.

The events of this week point to the fact that you can't hang around:

Were Now
Yeading 2.1 1.83
Woking 2.0 1.83
Eastbourne 2.2 2.0
Chippenham 1.66 1.57

and my one other bet in Div 2:

Cheltenham 1.9 1.72

So, if I ever needed any evidence to support being an early bird then here it is.

Good luck today guys.

Re: Weekend non-league

Yeah I had my biggest single stake on that this weekend too, it happens

Eastbourne won 2-0

Chippenham won 4-2 (3-1 at ht)

Histon 0-0

Staines 2-1

The non league results are proving a right bitch to get hold of today

Re: Weekend non-league

Looks like us Crawley and Clare backers got a bit unlucky today

The visitors dominated the first half, with Daryl Clare missing a couple of chances and Steve Burton shooting wide

I knew hed get chances. I'll back Clare again another day if I can get a similar price on him tho

Re: Weekend non-league

Hmm that Yeading results annoyed me a bit

They twice led and that bloody Forbes guy scored both of Eastleighs. The reason I put a bigger stake on was because he was supposed to be injured cos he scores all their goals

Re: Weekend non-league

muze - you know I'm well gutted about that Yeading bet and only plaiyng strip spin the botttle with 3 fillipeno (sp?) chicks last night lifted my spirits.

Anyway, I digress. Glad Chippenham did the business and you got the ht/ft up.

Skybet have got the weekend prices up and I's snapping up Crawley again at 3.25 away to Scarboro.

The cup games are also priced up and I've just had a provisional 3 points on draw specialists Margate (who disposed of Conf South opposition Carlshalton at home in the last round) to Cray Wanderers. a team from the league below, bad away form and an unremarkable progress to this round. 1.8 for Margate. love it.

AMP - I'll get stuck in at the start of the week as I'm still getting over the weekend...

  • Was just thinking there, the best type of "fuck off " is the following; You`re playing astro, 5 a side, someone shouts "handball" and the "fuck off" response is fucking class.
