Division 1 - Relegation

Some of you maye remember my "Wrexham to be relegated" thread last year and it would be nice to pull off (oo eer) a similar coup this season.

Wrexham's plight was largely due to the 10 points deducted because of the financial situation at the club. Indeed, they would not be plying their trade now in the basement division if it wasn't for the deduction and that w@nker of an owner they had.

So, I keep my eyes close to the screen when surfing around for any hint of financial irregulairty and today I've found it - in the shape of Bournemouth.

It seems that they've just avoided a winding-up order due to the former club seceratary suing them:

CHAIRMAN Peter Phillips insists Cherries will not be forced to sell one of their prized assets to foot the bill for the recent court case.

Cherries were ordered to pay more than £81,000 to Andrew Noonan after surviving a High Court winding-up order brought by the club's former company secretary at the end of last week.

The club has until Friday, August 5 to find the cash although Phillips claims the full amount will be closer to £120,000 once VAT and interest has been added.

Pending the outcome of the case, Cherries' assets had been frozen with the winding-up order preventing the club from selling or signing players.

Bourenmouth surprised a lot of people last year by just missing out on the play-offs but as their Boss says they have to come to terms with selling 4 quality plays in the close season and just getting the one in:

In: Stephen Cooke (Aston Villa)

Out: Wade Elliott (Burnley), Garreth O'Connor (Burnley), Alan Connell (Torquay, undisclosed), Kevin Scriven (Farnborough)

If you read the article it says that they won't sell another key player, James Spicer, to settle the legal fees but both him and Brian Stack but O' Driscoll admits:

"There have been no approaches but we remain a selling club"

Pre-season hsn't gone too well for them either. After a recent 2-1 home reverse to Brighton O'Driscoll said that they had to improve in both boxes. It appears that the chances of them being wound up or remote but the financial difficiulties are there and this has hamoered Bournemouth attracting players to the club. No doubt he'll pull out some loan deals but it's hardly the best preparation for a long hard season.

With 4 to go down in this division anything around the 6/1 could be interesting for a small-ish wager.

Apologies to Christian. I was aware that another Mod had backed them for the drop but couldn't remember if it was you or Kiko and I was too lazy to check. Just shows that great minds think alike!

I wasn't copying your pick, merely highlighting the new financial problems to come to light

Interesting that Komp to see that they're as low as 7/2 in places.....
