Re: Saturday Friendlies - Nice Big Coupon :)

Yup i like Celtic too. Like i mentioned in the other thread they have got many wins down south in friendlies in last few years. QPR, Fulham, Man Utd spring to mind off top of my head.

Fulham seem to be really experimenting each match and literally changing their entire side each half which would work in Celtics favour.

My only concern is how the new players fit in for the Celtic side as i believe this is their first match together so it might not be a forgone conclusion like i imagine.

I do believe Celtic will field their strongest side though.

Celtic for me also. Fancy them to put out strong team and not to hold back too much.

I'm not one for friendlies usually, but reading quotes coming from Everton, they're looking to get ready for their Champions League qualifier quickly, so they seem to be a fair bet @ 1.80 perhaps? I haven't looked at other odds, can possibly get better elsewhere

Defo worth a second look there Zonker. With Southampton beating(albeit not easily) Motherwell and Killie this week, you'd have to fancy Everton's chances.

I'm off for some digging

Re: Saturday Friendlies - Nice Big Coupon :)

Got a bit distracted playing poker, but here's what we've got so far.

I reckon we can trust the Motherwell side to follow what happened v Southampton:

Motherwell: Marshall (Smith 62), Corrigan (Keogh 45), Quinn, Partridge, Craigan, Foran, O’Donnell (Fagan 65), Leitch (Kerr 45), Hamilton (Clarkson 65), McDonald (Wright 78), Paterson

So a strong team - but quite a few changes in the middle of the park which must disrupt the side a little. Motherwell lost both goals before most of the later changes, but we can live in hope that Marshall starts again and plays true to his usual form

A similar but younger team played Clyde in midweek, running out 1-0 winners in a slightly below par performance by all accounts.

Should be a decent noisy crowd too, as its the return of James McFadden to Fir Park, and he'll be assured of a warm welcome back. I reckon he'll thrive in the circumstances, and could be a real thorn in Motherwell's side.

Here's some good news though - Butcher won't be there! He's away in Austria on youth team business, so it'll be over to the assistants for this one. Only a friendly, so not a huge blow tactics wise, but it'll take a little of the 'out to impress the manager' incentive away from the Motherwell players, while the Everton players will have the man they need to impress barking in their ears all afternoon.

Everton have played a few friendlies, but the only first team game was vs Austrian team FC Gamlitz, and they ran out 9-0 winners.

Martyn, Hibbert, Weir, Kroldrup, Kilbane, McFadden, Osman, Li Tie, Davies, Bent, Beattie

Plus plenty subs. Bent, Beattie, Wilson, Kroldrup, Vaughan (3), Anichebe and Hopkins all getting the goals.

I think we can expect fewer changes tomorrow, maybe 5 or 6, as Moyes uses it as more of a test of his tactics and strategy for the new season, rather than a game just to give everyone a chance.

With Kroldrup and Davies signed, they'll be keen to impress. Also, with new signings on the way, the current players know that no-ones position is safe.

As always its a case of small stakes for friendlies, but I'd rate Everton's chances at around 60% in a game like this, and I reckon they can take maybe a 2-1 or 3-1 success, so there's plenty to like about the 1.80 on offer.

~bloody hell i missed that Beanie though i see Zonker mentioned it. Looks nailed on to me in afriendly. I would tend to go with the same feeling i had with Southampton at Killie and that 4/5 does look big even for pre-season friendly madness.

Re: Saturday Friendlies - Nice Big Coupon :)

Top stuff Beanie Agree with everything you said pretty much. It is a little unusual that Terry Butcher won't be there, which will not have a massive effect probably, but all the same, can't be good for Motherwell.

I might have a dabble with it. Wonder if there's much to be had in the other games

Re: Saturday Friendlies - Nice Big Coupon :)

Hmmmm, not sure.

As said in the thread could be something in Celtic. They strolled the same fixture 12 months ago, and in truth should have won more confortably than 2-0. Decent support behind them and keen to impress. Will leave that for the morning and see what the opinion is tho.

Was having a look at Viking - Birmingham as well, and the possibility of a Norwegian win, but they've only an average home record in the Elitsieren and aint looking like they'd be good enough to beat a team like Birmingham.

Gonna have a quick scout through the English ties before bed.

Re: Saturday Friendlies - Nice Big Coupon :)

A few titbits to mull over in the morning then:

Portsmouth taking strongest possible side to Yeovil, who will field their top team.

Plymouth taking a strong squad for local game v Torquay in Tony Bedau's testimonial. Neville Southall to play for Torquay in goal from the start :loon

Notts County and Gills both in their first pre season games. Gills nowhere near reconstructing their side yet.

Bradford already have a couple of games under their belt and look in good nick with no injury probs for the trip to Halifax.

Leroy Lita makes his first game for Reading, but odds are to short when manager is saying things like 'Results are immaterial.'

Big money shout could be for Boston though. Manager Steve Evans has done his experimenting in previous friendlies, and is likely to stick to a settled squad for most of the game. Ipswich more likely to play two completely different sides in each half. Big odds on the home look a little tempting.

Anyhoo, bed time

Re: Saturday Friendlies - Nice Big Coupon :)

Had a quick scout, and see Skybet also have Everton @ 4/5. No one else that I use seems to be offering it. Shame about Bet365's low limit on it though

Spotted a couple of superb season bets as I was going through the odds, need to get cracking with the betting again.

Will reveal my season bets over the weekend
