Re: 1st SPL Manager to be sacked

First manager i like is Jim Leishman. He has lost his main man in Barry Nicholson who was their playmaker and has given them some great service over the past few season. Add to this the loss of Langfield and Byrne and Dunfermline are looking a bit weak. I havent seen them sign anyone of real quality as of yet and i can see it being a long season for them.

Tony Mowbray could be worth a shout also. But this is only dependent on which players they manage to hold on. Murray has gone, Riordan has been linked away as has O Conner and Whitaker. Take them out and thats their 4 best players from last season. They have made a potential good signing in Michael Stewart from Hearts. His style of play is more suited to the free flowing football of Hibs.

I feel theres no value in Falkirks manager as they are expected to go back down and Hughes is a massive favourite there. Im sure there fans dont expect much but anything extra is a bonus. Jimmy Calderwood is another one who is safe - Aberdeen have a long term plan and one poor season isnt going to hurt his career there just yet.

Both the Old Firm should also be safe - Mcleish's job i feel is going to be under more pressure. I like the style of players Strachan looks like getting in in the next few days and they will run riot in the SPL. Fancy Celtic to walk the league this season and make an impact in the Champions League if they can get a couple more decent signings in.

Craig Brewster is another safe one IMHO.As far as I know ICT have never sacked a manager.

Re: 1st SPL Manager to be sacked

Is that you Adamski? If so we'll hopefully have you posting all the news and views from the north during the new season

I'd like to say Lambert is safe as well, but Flynn changes managers more often than underwear, so if we find ourselves bottom come Christmas...

All depends on our signings and Lambert's ability though, so its impossible to say whether its a good bet or not.

I'd agree that Hughes should be safe - I can't see Falkirk really struggling, and even if they do, its no guarantee that Hughes will be shown the door.

Eddie Thompson will have Chisholm under big pressure to perform after he forked out the cash for Lee Miller, but the United side should easily improve on last season.

Tricky to say at the moment really - but atleast we can begin by striking a few from the list. Brewster, Hughes, McLeish, Strachan, Calderwood and Butcher should all be ok.

Re: 1st SPL Manager to be sacked

It's a bit early yet to be able to judge this market as player movement in and out has a long way to go yet I would think.

Don't you be pissing on our parade Para We're in the depths of summer and suffering withdrawal symptoms

Kiko, you sure it was odds for "sacked" managers, only I saw it mentioned in a thread elsewhere as the first manager to leave, which would of course change a lot.

Re: 1st SPL Manager to be sacked

It was a cut out from a newspaper and it never mentioned any walk outs, only being sacked. You know what papers are like and never go in depth so it possibly could be.

I had a look on the website and couldnt find the market.

Re: 1st SPL Manager to be sacked

Only one I would fancy out of that lot is Jim Jeffries at Killie at 13/2.

The OF managers are safe, IMO. Likewise Brewster who did a great job at ICT, Calderwood who seems to be building a decent side at Aberdeen and probably Mowbray who has had a great first season at Hibs, taking them into Europe.

Butcher also continues to achieve decent performances and placings with Motherwell. Chisholm and Leishman are end of season appointments who will both have a lot of "brownie points" having saved their clubs from relegation.

Lambert is just in the door so you would think he will be given time. Hughes took Falkirk up and will probably be only expected to survive this season, something well within their reach.

Therefore by process of elimination that only leaves Jeffries. He's been there a while, Killie are pretty much stagnant and a poor start could see him under a lot of pressure.

Re: 1st SPL Manager to be sacked

Weren't the Killie fans getting on his back last season aswell?

I did like the look of him also when i seen it. They will be in big trouble if Kris Boyd ends up leaving. Aberdeen have had a couple of bids turned down for him already. He is by far their best player and talent their and his goals would be a costly miss.

Re: 1st SPL Manager to be sacked

Aye fair enough Beanie. The way things are going with the Kachoul saga you might have to take an interest in the first manager to be bumped from Division 1. This business is dragging on as we felt it might.

Personally I hope the decision stands and Livvy' s SPL status is maintained. I admire the club and over the piece they've surpassed all expectations in the top flight. Now that Lambo is there, my feelings on the matter are strengthened in Livvy's favour as he was a superb player for Celtic until injuries took their toll and I would love to see him do well. A result at Ibrox on Day 1 would be a nice start

Re: 1st SPL Manager to be sacked

Certainly will be!

There's not many that like or admire us(tho those that do are appreciated ), and I'd go as far to say that we're the most unpopular club in the country, but the fans are generally now of the "no one likes us we don't care" mindset" and its onwards and upwards.

Looks like the Kachloul mess is just about over, and we can look forward to the new season in the SPL.

Its just as well, I'm shite at gambling in the lower leagues

Re: 1st SPL Manager to be sacked

Without wishing to sound in any way patronising, the real football fans IMO are those who follow clubs outwith the Old Firm. It's easy to support one of the big two and hordes are travelling to Glasgow every week from all over the country and even England and Ireland to see them. Unfortunately, all to often their reasons are nothing to do with football.

Many of my close family on both sides were born and lived all their lives within earshot of Celtic Park. I was born and bred in the area myself so I can claim to have grown up supporting the local team. Not too many Old Firm fans can say that.
