Re: Coca-Cola League One 03-05th feb
Bradford - Nottingham
An early call here and I am backing Forest in this one. Bradford tight finances continue to disrupt the teams season as they just lost 2 more key players after loaning Windass to Hull earlier in January. Now they lost a key defender in the face of Nathan Doyle, who was on a season long loan from Derby, but his parent club just sold him to Hull for a fee, reported to around the 100 k mark. This is a huge blow for bantams defense as he was playing quite well and is regarded as an exciting prospect for the future. Obviously Bradford are short of money so couldnt place a rival bid and lost him to Hull. On top of this they sold one of their most creative players - Jermaine Johnson. The Jamaican international left for Championship side Sheffield Wednesday and now the only creative player in Bradford midfield I see is Steven Schumacher.
However manager Todd managed to bring 3 players on short term loans to cover the holes. An unknown young french defender from Lyon youth school, recently contracted to Charlton, but never played in the first team. He had a short spell on loan at Bristol City but failed to impress. I doubt he will cover well for Doyle.
In attack they snapped Southends Billy Paynter. He was doing fine in Port Vale, but lost himself later on in Hull and Southend. However a very dangerous striker at this level. Good signing taking i mind the short finances.
The third player on loan is Bruce Dyer. A much travelled striker, once crowned the most expensive teenager in english football when Palace bought him for over 1 million pounds from Watford 13 years ago, if I am not wrong. However recently he isnt showing anything special and couldnt break into first team action even in Doncaster. However I see some potential in him to replace Windass as bantams target man and revive his carreer.
So basicly Bradford lost 3 key players in 15 days. This can not go unnoticed and even they brought in several players with potential I would give them some time to adapt first.
On the other hand Forest are kinda short of form lately. Still the points at the top are quite tight, but surely they have to get back on the winning track as soon as possible. One notable player brought in and its a quality one - former Forest trainee Prutton joined from Southampton. I rate him quite high and especially in League 1 I think he will boost Forest midfield.
All in all I believe Forest will put Bradford defense on constant pressure in order to claim the vital points.
Nottingham Forest 4/10 @ 2.40 Expekt :booty

Re: Coca-Cola League One 03-05th feb
Northampton just snapped Gretnas goal machine Deuchar and IMO not a bad defender from Everton.
from BBC:
Northampton Town have signed Everton defender Mark Hughes for an undisclosed fee, and Gretna striker Kenny Deuchar on loan for the rest of the season.
Deuchar, 26, has scored 66 goals in 82 starts for Gretna, helping them reach last season's Scottish FA Cup final.
Hughes, 20, made just three appearances for Everton's first team but had regularly captained their reserves. "I am delighted with the two signings we have made today," Cobblers boss Stuart Gray told Town's website.

Re: Coca-Cola League One 03-05th feb
Agree with Forest, at the first glance fancy Yeovil at home and Port Vale away. but hard fixtures, too many personal changes in teams, I'm not sure if I'll place a single bet in this division this round.

Re: Coca-Cola League One 03-05th feb
I thought Deachar went off the boil a bit once they got to Div One zzax and i dont think he's ever cut it above Scottish division 2 level. I'd love to see him do well but i can't see it being a good move for him.
I'll take your Forest too zzax.
Nobody betting this week? seems awfully slow. No-one want to share their thoughts with us? I think it's fun talking about football coupons and you did too

Re: Coca-Cola League One 03-05th feb
I for once would not put you off Chesterfield, this game is a must win for our season. We have signed two new players and we are looking to get going in the league. We do have suspensions for Mark Allott and Reuben Hazell but our new lads all seem to be fitting in and do have a point to prove.
1.90 is about right against a struggling Bournemouth, I think they will come to shut up shop. Maybe one for the unders?

Re: Coca-Cola League One 03-05th feb
What about Oldham? Home win is priced only 1.8, but their home record is 9-3-2,team news are positive:
Quote:
Midfielder McDonald missed Sunday's win at Northampton through a one-game suspension, but is expected to feature against Moore's play-off chasers.
Neil Wood has been ruled out for the rest of the season with cruciate knee ligament damage and Matt Wolfenden is still sidelined due to a thigh injury.
Oldham manager John Sheriden has no other new injury or suspension problems and is expected to field much the same side.
Sheriden did not bring in any new players during the January transfer window but did not lose any either, so a settled squad will be chasing a sixth win in eight league matches.
|
Tranmere are good travelers, but there are some injuries :
Quote:
Shane Sheriff is struggling with a virus that recently affected strikers Chris Greenacre and Craig Curran, and is unlikely to feature at Boundary Park.
Fellow defenders Ian Goodison (ankle) and Carl Tremarco (Achilles) will need injections to have any chance of featuring but Moore claims there is only a 30-70 chance of them featuring.
Moore said: "They're both brave lads and, if they have an injection, they've got a week to get over it so we'll just have to see what happens."

Home win worth of try

Re: Coca-Cola League One 03-05th feb
Blackpool -1 @1.943 is a steal imo. They are in good form and Brentford have lost their last 9 away games.
Does anyone know why Cheltenham have done well in the last month? I was going to bet on Swansea -0.25, then I see that Cheltenham beat Bristol city last game and managed draws against Scunthorpe and Gillingham at home.
What's happened to Northampton recently? They were a team that went <2.5 very often until the 13th of Jan where their last 3 games have produced 13 goals. If it's a freak occurance i'll bet <2.75@1.943 since the rest of the season they've had loads of 0-0's and 1-0s

Re: Coca-Cola League One 03-05th feb
At first look, without knowing team news, etc., Orient, Blackpool and Doncaster are on my short list. Off to look at team news, etc.
By the way, Handicapman, have you seen Bas Savage has gone to Brighton now Mind you, don't know why I'm laughing, we actually offered him a contract, he turned it down Brighton apparently had bids turned down for Byfield from Millwall and Forster from Hull, they had a bid accepted from Port Vale for Constantine but he didn't want to join them, so they ended up signing Savage. Sounds like a little bit of desperation crept in there at the end

Re: Coca-Cola League One 03-05th feb
Think I'll leave Doncaster, team news not promising from Soccernet:
Quote:
Doncaster duo Jonathan Forte and James Coppinger are both major doubts for the visit of Carlisle.
Midfielder Coppinger missed the midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy draw at Crewe with a hamstring problem, while winger Forte was sidelined with a knee injury.
Defender Adam Lockwood and midfielder Sean Thornton are also doubtful due to illness.
But striker Mark McCammon (neck) staked his claim for a return to league action with an impressive performance in the 3-3 Johnstone's Paint Trophy draw at Crewe.
Journeyman forward Bruce Dyer has joined Bradford on loan for a month.
Paul Heffernan is expected to spearhead the attack with his two goals at Gresty Road in midweek taking his season's tally to 16.
Carlisle boss Neil McDonald could hand a debut to Bolton striker Johann Smith.
American Under-20 international Smith, 19, made his Premiership bow for Wanderers as a second-half substitute against Manchester United earlier this season and has joined the Cumbrians on loan until the end of the season.
Midfielder Paul Murray shrugged off a knee injury to feature in Wednesday's 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest and he should again feature.
However, on-loan Middlesbrough striker Danny Graham has been sidelined by back problems and Liam Atkin could again miss out after being laid low by a shin injury.
Chris Lumsdon also missed the Forest victory after being ruled out by an ankle injury and could miss out again.
|
Nothing to put me off either of the other two though:
Quote:
Luke Guttridge is expected to go into Leyton Orient's starting line-up against Port Vale after signing permanently for the club on transfer deadline day.
Guttridge enjoyed a successful loan spell at Brisbane Road earlier in the campaign, and the midfielder will now spend the rest of the campaign with the League One strugglers after becoming frustrated on the bench at Southend.
Guttridge's return is likely to be the only change to an Orient team which won 4-0 at Crewe last Saturday - especially as Ling was unable to sign another striker before Thursday's cut-off.
Defender John Mackie is still absent with a foot injury, while forward Efe Echanomi, who has been out for more than a year with an ankle injury, has now suffered a knock to his knee which has required injections and will not be available.
Midfielder Michael Simpson is likely to miss the rest of the campaign with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
Port Vale midfielders Paul Harsley and Ross Gardner are both rated as doubtful after they limped out of the goalless draw with Brighton last weekend.
Gardner was forced off in the 25th minute after taking a blow on the hip, while Harsley followed on the hour with a leg injury after a ferocious tackle from Seagulls midfielder Adam El-Abd.
Danny Whitaker is set to replace Gardner while Harsley's absence could prompt a tactical rethink from boss Martin Foyle.
Harsley was replaced by striker Akpo Sodje at the Withdean and with no obvious midfield reinforcements to hand, Foyle could start Sodje alongside Luke Rodgers and Leon Constantine in a three-pronged attack.
Fellow striker Nathan Lowndes will be back on the bench after returning to training following plastic surgery on a facial injury but defender Richard Walker misses out again after a recurrence of his knee injury
|
Quote:
Blackpool manager Simon Grayson is set to hand Simon Gillett an instant return to the starting XI against Brentford after he was re-signed on loan until to the end of the season.
The 21-year-old Southampton midfielder has returned for his third loan spell of the season at Bloomfield Road and will start in the centre of midfield in place of the suspended Keith Southern.
But fellow new signing, Huddersfield goalkeeper Paul Rachubka, will have to settle for a place on the bench as Rhys Evans is set to continue as first-choice keeper.
Simon Wiles has moved to Macclesfield on loan while goalkeepers Lewis Edge and Lee Jones have joined Rochdale and Darlington respectively, but Grayson has no injury worries to contend with as he seeks a fourth straight league win at home to return to the play-off zone.
Brentford welcome back on-loan defender Che Wilson.
The Southend player was suspended for last weekend's goalless draw with Carlisle, which left Scott Fitzgerald's men rooted to the bottom of League One, but Wilson is likely to return against the Seasiders.
Having Wilson back will come as a welcome boost to Fitzgerald, who is without midfielder Michael Leary and defender David Partridge due to bans.
Leary, who extended his loan deal from Luton until the end of the campaign this week, sits out the game after picking up his fifth booking of the season at Carlisle, while Partridge completes a three-match ban.
Fitzgerald is still without goalkeeper Stuart Nelson (ankle), defender Matt Heywood and forward Lloyd Owusu (both groin), while winger Gavin Tomlin and forward Chris Moore were allowed to leave the club earlier in the week.

That doesn't look a bad bet, Mahatma, I'd go along with that (although I'm trying to get evens on Betfair). What's more, in those 9 straight defeats away from home for Brentford, they've scored the grand total of 0 goals.
