Home Advantage Paradox

It's common 'knowledge' that teams perform better at home than they do away. So why is it that there are teams playing who score more and concede less away than they do at home? (or who have almost no difference is goal difference) My best guess is that the manager changes his tactics when playing away and the team are more suited to this style of play than the style they use at home. For example, a team with many short and fast attacking players might find it hard at home if the other team puts all their men behind the ball, but when playing away and having the opposition come at them, will be able to counter attack effectively. This is only a theory so I'm asking any supporters of the following teams, who are able to see them play home and away regularly, if they can explain why their home advantage is so small..

I've calculated this by getting an average for goals scored/conceded at home and goals scored/concede away for this season and sometimes last.

The teams:
Wigan
Derby
Ayr
Raith Rovers
Chester
Bury
Brighton
Northampton
Arbroath

Thanks.

Re: Home Advantage Paradox

The RFO has quite a good rating system for teams home and away Mahatma. I enjoy having a look at that. I usually back more aways than homes come to think of it and it is as you say due to it suiting some teams in attacking the game and not having 10 men behind the ball. also at home especially in small grounds in scotland sometimes the fans aint entirely behind a team due to results (ayr??) or due to having no atmosphere in their stadium (airdrie, Livi) or just a low home support (stranraer) Playing away is almost welcome to some players.
