Nice premiership 5 timer there , I wonder what the 'to qualify' odds are as 1 or 2 usually end in extra time but every one of those teams should have what it takes to go through to the next round.

Early thoughts, Bristol City look very overpriced and Fulham look a bit of a banker.

Re: FA Cup: 16/17th Jan

Newcastle are starting to look appealing aint they Bromsgrove, cracking win today after a shakey start where i expected them to get stuffed but they hung on in there and pulled out a blinding result they now must be brimming with confidence to beat Birmingham especially at Home.

Newcastle look a completely different side to the one from a couple of months ago, mainly since Dyers return and Martyns getting a run up front, St Jame's will give them that extra man but i doubt they will need it on current form.

Re: FA Cup: 16/17th Jan

From bet 365

Quote:
Oldham will be without latest signing Sean Gregan for their FA Cup third-round replay with Wolves.

The former Preston and Leeds defender signed for Oldham on a permanent basis last week in time to play in the weekend draw at promotion rivals Scunthorpe.

But the 32-year-old missed the initial FA Cup tie at Wolves and is ineligible to feature in the replay.

Dutchman Stefan Stam will return in Gregan's absence to partner skipper Will Haining in the heart of defence.

Leading goalscorer Chris Porter and winger Chris Taylor will both line up against Wolves at Boundary Park having missed the 1-1 draw at Molineux.

Oldham manager John Sheridan has no new injury or suspension worries and Gregan aside is expected to name an unchanged starting line-up.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy looks set to be without defender Jackie McNamara.

McNamara strained his groin after clashing with Stoke's Ricardo Fuller on Saturday and the 33-year-old admits he is unlikely to be fit for the clash at Boundary Park.

He told the club's official website: ``I got shoved into the hoardings. I was trying to keep the ball in and didn't see Fuller coming. I didn't feel anything at the time but I knew there was a problem.

``It feels better but I'll be struggling for Oldham. Hopefully I'll be ok for the weekend.''

Rohan Ricketts is set to return to the starting line up in place of cup-tied Michael Kightly.

However striker Jay Bothroyd (thigh) and defender Charlie Mulgrew (ankle) are serious doubts, while defender Jody Craddock (achilles) is expected to return to training later this week and will miss the game.
and review of the first game from BBC

Quote:
Wolves 2-2 Oldham
Chris Hall's late equaliser at Molineux earned Oldham an FA Cup third round replay against Wolves.

He headed home Andy Liddell's free-kick 12 minutes from time after Wolves had come from behind to lead.

Paul Warne swept home a finish to put Oldham ahead after 19 minutes, but Seyi George Olofinjana pounced after 35 minutes to level for Wolves.

Craig Davies, on loan from Verona, headed Wolves in front seven minutes later, but Hall earned Oldham a replay.

#
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy:
"They deserved the draw and they were better than us in the second half.

"I've never had an easy third round ether as a player or manager.

"It is not a distraction and I'm delighted we are in the hat (the draw for the fourth round on Monday)."

#
Oldham manager John Sheridan:
"The replay is good for us - it's a midweek game and hopefully it will be freezing and raining.

"I used to love the big games - nothing better in my eyes.

"I am really proud of the lads - they came into the game and really worked their socks off."

Wolverhampton: Murray, Little, Breen (Edwards 62), Collins, McNamara, Ricketts (Mark Davies 73), Olofinjana, Henry, Potter, McIndoe (Johnson 84), Craig Davies.
Subs Not Used: Ikeme, Clarke.

Booked: Potter.

Goals: Olofinjana 35, Craig Davies 42.

Oldham: Pogliacomi, Eardley, Haining, Stam, Charlton, Liddell, McDonald (Rocastle 76), Wellens, Edwards, Warne, Wolfenden (Hall 59).
Subs Not Used: Terry Smith, Tierney, Wood.

Booked: Eardley, McDonald.

Goals: Warne 19, Hall 78.

Att: 14,524

Ref: P Crossley (Kent).
To me it looks quite promising for the Oldham. Great form lately, as I remember alway were quite strong home team with a lot to play for. Enyone else ?

Re: FA Cup: 16/17th Jan

luton have played quite well in recent televised games against brum and west brom despite selling carlos edwards and rowan vine, they are a strong home side, anyone fancy them tomorrow?

bristol city look the value as mentioned,if they can keep it tight for the first twenty the crowd are going to get very restless adding to the pressure already facing the home side.

southend are on a good run beating west brom and cardiff in recent weeks with a couple of decent away draws as well, more value in backing them than the tykes imo

Re: FA Cup: 16/17th Jan

Hmm, I'll most likely be in the minority but I just can't see the value in backing Bristol City @ 3.85ish. I'm not saying they can't win, I just don't like the price is all.

Looking at Coventry and things don't look great. However, regardless of poor form they are still 8 points above relegation and 10 points from a play off place. I guess that's how tight Championship football is. Home form isn't terrible either, average yes, but not terrible.

Looking at Bristol City's recent form and it's very good, they haven't lost since November. Away form is average though and they've only played 2 sides in the top 6, losing against both Forest and Yeovil.

Coventry do miss a few players for this fixture but not all of them are important. I'd say Elliot(defender) and Marshall (goalkeeper) are significant abscences but they can live without the rest. New signings Michael Mifsud
and Aaron Lee Barrett are ineligible because they were both signed after the game at Bristol.

The question I'd like answered is "Has Mickey Adams lost the dressing room?". Recent performances would hint that this may be the case but then again this is also the type of game where the players believe they can begin turning things around.

I also looked at the Bristol City(+0.5) option but it's coming in around 1.80ish and I'd say that it's never an odds on punt.

I may even be tempted to have a nibble on Coventry @ 2.10

Re: FA Cup: 16/17th Jan

Today I fancy Luton. They are strong home side, hard to beat. This season they are
6-5-3 at home. On the other side QPR poor away, this season 3-3-8, and lost all
5 last away games.
This is only statistic, but there is anather reason to back Luton today. QPR will miss they most creative player - Lee Cook. QPR fans are not to optimistic about this one.

From QPR.net:

Quote:
RON: If Rangers can scrape through this one then we have the reward of getting dumped out in the next round by Blackburn on live telly. Oh the glamour! To be honest though I don't think that's going to be an issue. With no Lee Cook we desperately lack attacking options (or should that be option) and I don't see us going through. Both sides have proved they are capable of throwing leads away of late so I reckon there will be goals but I think Luton will edge it 2-1.
SIMON: After the war at Hull City you have to wonder how much Rangers will have left in the tank for this one. The extra days rest for Luton could prove decisive, but not as decisive as the suspension of Lee Cook. When he doesn’t play you have to wonder where the creativity is coming from and I have a feeling we won’t be on the telly in a couple of weeks. 2-0 to Luton.

Luton for me, 2 pts ( don't forget, this is a cup ).

Re: FA Cup: 16/17th Jan

Interesting stuff here on the Coventry v Bristol City game, I was at the first match and worryingly for a Bristol City fan hoping for promotion, Coventry didnt look a bad team going forward although their defence was a mess.

I think this is a hard one to call to be honest, daikoku makes a good point that the reason we are where we are is due to our home form. As shown in traeth's post, our last 2 aways have been draws against teams at the bottom of the division and we haven't won away in the league for 7 matches.

City have now trailed in each of their last 6 matches only to come back and draw or go on and win the game.

5 out of 6 of Coventrys last league games have been over as have Bristol City's so I'm gonna have small wager on the overs.

Coventry vs Bristol City OVERS @2.04 with betfair.

Re: FA Cup: 16/17th Jan

I think Coventry will stand up and be counted tonight (think replay was a distraction to them) and hopefully will win. I think Bristol had the chances in the 1st game and will roo them tonight.

I also like Wolves (going against the grain) but I think knowing that a grudge match with WBA in the next round will be enough to spur them on.

Re: FA Cup: 16/17th Jan

I was 80% sure we would lose last night as the club really are in turmoil. The only thing that stopped me from posting to get punters to back Bristol City is my appalling record when commenting on my own team.

In fairness to me this is because the only thing that the club have been consistant in for so long is being inconsistant.

That has changed over the last couple of weeks and I can honestly say we look incapable of beating anyone at the moment.

If MA is still our manager when I wake up it will be down to the fact the club just can't afford to sack him.

No point in going on but just read the fans sites to get an idea of how close to the brink we are.

Something like six managers in six years, here we go again.

Re: FA Cup: 16/17th Jan

Spurs v Cardiff
Taken from sky..
Tottenham will hope to overcome Cardiff at the second attempt as they entertain the Championship side in an FA Cup third round replay on Wednesday.

Cardiff held Spurs to a goalless draw at Ninian Park earlier in the month but have struggled in the league in recent times and have not won a match since beating Burnley on November 11.

Spurs have also run into some poor in the Premiership since Christmas and have lost their last two games at White Hart Lane.

However, their record in cup competitions has been superb this season as they have progressed smoothly in both the Uefa Cup and Carling Cup.

Tottenham will also be confident of an FA Cup run as victory over Cardiff would set up a fourth round clash at home to Southend.

Ledley King will miss the visit of Cardiff as he is still sidelined with a bruised foot, but Robbie Keane is in contention to start after returning from a knee injury.

Jermaine Jenas has not yet recovered fully from an ankle injury, while Mido (groin) and Paul Stalteri (hip) are doubtful.

James Simmonds looks set to go straight into the Cardiff squad after joining on loan from Chelsea earlier in the week, while Luigi Glombard (hamstring) could be pushing for a start after returning to the bench for the 1-0 defeat to Southend on Saturday. Paul Perry, however, may miss out due to a leg injury.

Newcastle v Birmingham
Newcastle and Birmingham will be vying for the right to host Reading in the FA Cup fourth round during their replay at St James' Park on Wednesday night.

The Magpies were just seconds away from clinching a place in the last 32 at St Andrews before Sebastian Larsson's late strike dashed their hopes, but Glenn Roeder will be in good spirits following his side's 3-2 victory at Tottenham on Sunday.

Indeed, the Magpies boss has already confirmed that he will name exactly the same first team and bench that showed such character to come from behind twice at White Hart Lane.

Roeder's team selection is more out of necessity than choice however, with 11 senior figures still sidelined due to injury.

Captain Scott Parker (stomach muscle) and Turkish schemer Emre (calf) are the closest to returning and should make Saturday's Premiership game with West Ham.

Stephen Carr (foot), Damien Duff (knee), Titus Bramble (calf) and Celestine Babayaro (hamstring) are also closing on their respective returns, but Charles N'Zogbia (knee), Shola Ameobi (hip), Craig Moore (hamstring), Olivier Bernard (hip) and Michael Owen (knee) are still someway short of fitness.

Birmingham's success in holding Newcastle first time around came at a cost, with on-loan Arsenal man Nicklas Bendtner picking up an ankle injury which rules him out of the replay.

Blues also saw Radhi Jaidi pick up a red card in the 2-2 draw so the Tunisian is suspended for the replay, and, with Stephen Kelly also injured, Steve Bruce will start Bruno N'Gotty for the first time in three months. New signing Rowan Vine is cup-tied after playing for Luton, but Cameron Jerome (Achilles) and DJ Campbell (neck) are fit and ready to lead the line in attack.

Fulham v Leicester
Fulham and Leicester have to try again on Wednesday after a thrilling third round tie earlier in the month ended 2-2.

The Foxes twice came from behind at The Walkers Stadium to force a replay with Chris Coleman's side.

Danny Cadamarteri netted a stoppage time equaliser after Fulham had looked to have won it through Moritz Volz late on.

Leicester will now travel to Craven Cottage looking to produce an upset, knowing a win will put them in with a good chance of advancing even further in the competition.

Wednesday's winners will host Stoke City in the fourth round of the FA Cup later this month.

Previous meetings between Fulham and Leicester shows the visitors have the edge, with Fulham having never knocked their opponents out of the FA Cup.

Fulham have drawn their last six in all competitions, so a penalty shoot-out at Craven Cottage may be a strong possibility.

The Cottagers will still be without injured goalkeeper Antti Niemi, as well as midfielder Papa Bouba Diop and defender Zat Knight.

New signing Clint Dempsey will also be missing having briefly returned to the USA, but Vincenzo Montella could make his first start.

Rob Kelly is sweating on the fitness of Foxes captain Paddy McCarthy, who took a knock to his ankle at the weekend.

Striker Elvis Hammond is also a doubt to face his former club, an ankle problem has kept him out since the turn of the year. However, Kelly is hopeful both players be able to be involved at some point at Fulham on Wednesday.
