Re: CC Midweek: 15/16th Jan

I was quite interested in Mansfield Johnny especially with the two new strikers scoring on their debuts against Hereford at the weekend but i'm going to give it a miss now.

I know from the past few seasons that going to Accrington on a wet windy night that you'll be lucky to come away with anything. They thrive on night games up there, i dont have any stats but if you did have them i'm sure they would show a near perfect record over the past 3 seasons for night games.
Trends do get broken though and Stanley are in trouble this time, i fancy Mansfield to win but not quite enough to put money on.

I know the feeling, Quandram Although having said that, I've already written off the weekend, this is instead a nice start to a new week.

Nice call on the 2-0

Re: CC Midweek: 15/16th Jan

Hi Broms'

I didnt go but a lad at work did, he said both teams were poor.

Here's what G.Turner said about the game.....
From http://www.herefordunited.co.uk

Speaking after the game, a very disappointed Graham Turner said “It’s something I can’t quite understand, why we threw in a performance like that.

“From front to back we came off second best, we lost all the battles, and we never played.

“Even with a few minutes to go, to get back to 2-1 you think we may well just have a flurry at the end, but to concede another goal like that. I just can’t fathom that one out.

“We go back to the drawing board tomorrow morning and see where we go from here.

“It was a poor performance there’s no disguising that and we didn’t deserve anything out of the game.

“What we’ve done generally [this season] when going down the slope in the second half is build up a head of steam and cause problems but we never did that.

“To be fair to Mansfield they were organised, they did quite well but we made life easy for them. We were very, very poor.

Turning his attentions to the January transfer window Turner said “There’s one or two talks going on at the moment, whether we get anyone in for Saturday, that’s got to be the aim, a couple of fresh faces can’t do any harm.

"At the same time there are a lot of clubs chasing a few good players, and we're in the market for players the same as a number of second division clubs and occasionally a number of first division clubs. That is the difficulty at the moment but it doesn’t stop us aiming for better players than what we’ve got.

“The bulk of the side will obviously be the same going to Macclesfield, what we have to do is pick that side up and make sure we’re ready for it.

Fully agree with you there HM, Scunny's price is too tempting to be missed. They are playing against a Chelt side who are lingering at the dropway zone. Scunny, with 2 man down had a fantastic last home game against Oldham, where they were able to hold the 3rd placers to a draw. On record Scunthorpe are the best away team in this division and the incentive for this game will be that they will be able to top the table if they are to garner all 3 points, with Forest leading the table with the extra point and Oldham & Bristol hot on their heels trailing them by only 1 point. However team news seems hard to come which renders my bet on hold. Any Scunny/ Chelt supporters, or people with info shed some light pleassse. By the way Scunny's are level ball in the Asian Hcp @ 1.87 (equivalent to DNB)

Re: CC Midweek: 15/16th Jan

Scunny - from official site

Nigel Adkins will wait on the outcome of Cliff Byrne's appeal to overturn the red card he picked up against Oldham before naming his team for Tuesday's trip to Cheltenham.

Byrne is due to serve a three match ban starting with the trip to Whaddon Road but could still feature if the card is overturned by the appeals committee on Tuesday afternoon.

One man who definitely won't feature is winger Cleveland Taylor who serves a one match suspension for the two yellow cards he collected in the draw at the weekend.

The Iron also have an injury doubt over utility man Richard Hinds who limped out of Saturday's draw at the interval with a knock.

Elsewhere Billy Sharp plays his last match before a one match suspension while Drew Talbot could make his first start since joining on loan from Sheffield Wednesday.

Quote:
Bury boss Chris Casper has signed goalkeeper Andy Warrington on loan in time to face Darlington.

With Alan Fettis set to miss out against the Quakers after his red card in the 2-2 draw at Torquay, Shakers boss Chris Casper has moved to sign 30-year-old Warrington on a second loan spell until the end of the season.

Casper said: ``Obviously we wanted Andy to stay longer last time but he picked up the injury. In the short time he was here he impressed us and he's got an impressive CV.''

Casper wants an improvement on his side's home record, with just four wins at Gigg Lane compared to six on their travels.

He added: ``Normally you look to win your home games and get what you can away but it's been the other way around for us.

``But we've often not got what we've deserved at home this season. Darlington have got some good players and it should be a good game.''

Darlington boss Dave Penney looks set to name an unchanged side.

The Quakers ended a run of eight successive defeats with the 3-1 victory over Peterborough last weekend, and they will be looking for another convincing win.

Top-scorer Julian Joachim, who took his tally to 11 for the season after scoring twice on Saturday, is again set to lead the attack.

And on-loan David Wheater, who also got on the scoresheet against Posh, is also expected to start again in defence.

But Joey Hutchinson and Gaetano Giallanza are again ruled out with hip and knee injuries respectively, while Patrick Collins is also suspended.

Re: CC Midweek: 15/16th Jan

I'll be interested to see how Darlo get on tonight. THey've added Tommy Wright (mentioned earlier in this thread) on loan from Barnsley and Dave Penney has re-signed one of his L2 promotion team in Ricky Ravenhill. They've been re-vamped and are a fair bit different from that's been falling apart recently, however they could be decent punting material in the future. I will hold fire though just to see if they can back up saturday's win over a much changed Peterboro (who have sacked their manager after giving him almost £1million to spend and only one match with the new players).

Nothing in the CC leagues for me this week as I'm not convinced Mansfield should be trusted at Accy midweek in blustery conditions. They may well nick it though I agree with kops comment about not liking anything enough to back it up with cold hard cash.
