Liverpool/Arsenals a quarter final isnt it ?? Which means only 1 leg I think, whereas Wycombe/Chelsea is the first leg of a semi

Re: Carling Cup Semis 9-10th Jan

Mourinho last week hinted as thoug he was hoping the 1st leg was tight'ish and if his 'team' didn't get a result then they would bring them back to the bridge and finish them off.

from that i think a lot of the fringe players will be getting a shot

That's right Swoops. It's the one that was fogged off midweek in December. Winners to play Spurs in the Semi.

Liverpool v Arsenal

We all know how lightly Wenger takes this tournament and this game will be no different. The provisional squad for the game is as follows...

As you can see there hardly much to be worrying about. We have seen the fringe team do well down the seasons but remember here that many of their more experienced players are out on loan so wont be featuring.

Benetiz has said that he will be playing a fairly strong side with some youth in the squad but his line up will be pretty solid.

Liverpool at home also is a massive factor as in the league this is where they have picked up a large majority of their league points tally.

Even if Liverpool play some bench players its still far more stronger and experienced than Arsenals.

The likes of Fowler, Crouch etc could be called up.

All in all i think the price on Liverpool is very good considering the circumstances and definately worth a good bet.

Liverpool to win

I think the situation is stil the same as it was a few weeks back ago.

We seen Wenger take a second string squad and i see no reason why he will adopt a different approach this time.

Yesterdays game will have no bearing on this one imo bar maybe Liverpool wanting revenge. Liverpool played better in the game i felt and they can only be more dominant this time around against a reserve side.

Still fancy the Home win.

Should be all the more interesting since yesterdays defeat defeat Kiko as that upset a lot of Liverpool fans and they will be looking for payback.

Whether Liverpool can do it or not is a different matter and its a bit too close to call for my liking so 'I'm leaving well alone but it has the makings of a great game.

Re: Carling Cup 9-10th Jan

Everyone seems quick to write Arsenal off for this (and the FA Cup game) but I don't think Liverpool will have it that easy. The 'young guns' will be well up for this as it's their chance to impress and they youngsters at Arsenal are not far off being as good as the first teams at some other clubs (OK I don't mean Liverpool, but you get the point)

Just a fans opinion

Taken a few quid on Arsenal to win at 4.4

Re: Carling Cup 9-10th Jan

Hi Guys, After betting on Arsenal in the FA cup, I am placing my bets on Liverpool this time ! As you can see Arsenal is in 3 cpmpetition right now , and from the squad they have now I don't think The manager will want to risk his player playing in so many competition when the Champion League,EPL and FA Cup. 1st The Champion League, they have a chance to win it so piorality is in this, 2nd the FA Cup and the manager knows very well they have a great chance too and 3rd the EPL.... Wenger knows to overcome Manu and Chelsea is a bit out of reach so I think the manager and the players knows that too. As for Liverpool .... same to them, EPL out of reach, CHampions League, they might get it but .....???? and now the more realistic Silverware is the CArling Cup and I am very sure the Manager will wants the players to go all out to get their revence and I think they will tonight!!!
As for the FA Cup, I will go for Burney cause I have a little feeling that Cooper does not rate this Cup importants than the EPL!!! I will place a little on Burney on AH +0.5. My bets tonight is Liverpool and Burney .

Re: Carling Cup 9-10th Jan

It seems Wenger has opted to name a fairly mixed squad with some youngsters and a sprinkle of experienced players.

Abou Diaby, Fabregas, Kolo Toure, Baptista, Denilson, Alex Song, Johan Djourou, Mart Poom, Manuel Almunia, Jeremie Aliadiere, Justin Hoyte, Theo Walcott, Mathew Connoly, Henry Lansbury, Mark Randall, Armand Traore.

Brief update of players from Arsenal webbie.
Quote:
Arsène Wenger has named his 16-man squad for tonight's Carling Cup tie against Liverpool.
As revealed by Arsenal.com yesterday, Abou Diaby is the notable inclusion. The French midfielder is in line for his first appearance in an Arsenal shirt since fracturing and dislocating his ankle at Sunderland last May.
Cesc Fabregas is back after serving a suspension during Saturday's FA Cup win at Anfield while Kolo Toure and Johan Djourou look set to start in central defence.
Wenger has opted for a blend of internationals and inexperienced youngsters. That second category includes Henri Lansbury, yet to feature for the first team.
Mark Randall and Armand Traore are included after featuring in the Carling Cup victories at West Brom and Everton this season while Matthew Connolly is back from his loan spell at Bournemouth.

Kuyt out for revenge after FA Cup
Dutch goal ace Dirk Kuyt refuses to be deflated by Liverpool's exit from the FA Cup as the Anfield men prepare to face Arsenal for the second time in four days.

The £9million summer recruit from Feyenoord insists: 'Liverpool still have three trophies to go for.'

On Saturday, Liverpool's defence of the trophy they won on penalties against West Ham in Cardiff last May was ended at the first hurdle by a counter-attacking Arsenal who pulled off a 3-1 victory.

Now the clubs clash in the Carling Cup quarter-finals at the same venue, with the Gunners intent on their third victory over the Merseysiders this season.

They will be aiming to heap more Carling Cup misery on the city, having brought a youthful side to Goodison Park back in November and inflicting a 1-0 defeat on Everton in the fourth round.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is threatening to field a similarly young outfit this time around, with the prospect of a semi-final showdown against Tottenham awaiting the victors.

And Kuyt believes there is still plenty to play for this term.

He said: 'We deserved more than we got on Saturday but Arsenal are one of the better teams in the Premier League so we already know it will be tough second time around.

'Let's hope the defeat we suffered is an incentive and we can win, because we want to win trophies. I hope that first defeat gives us an extra boost.'

He added: 'For us now it is a question of going on in the Premier League, Champions League and Carling Cup.

'As players you always want to win trophies. We have lost one but there are a few more trophies to fight for and the Carling Cup is one of them.'

Boss Rafael Benitez insists he will retain Jerzy Dudek in goal for the second Arsenal visit to Anfield in four days.

Jose Reina was rested on Saturday with Benitez keeping a promise to Dudek to play him in cup ties.

The Pole could have done better with all three Arsenal goals, but Benitez said: 'Jerzy was promised at the beginning of the season that he would play in all cup ties.

'We will be sticking with that, he will play in the Carling Cup tie. Jerzy had a decent game in the first match, he didn't have much to do, just a couple of saves.'

Striker Craig Bellamy could also come into contention up front, while veteran defender Sami Hyypia could return in place of Daniel Agger, while Fabio Aurelio could come in for John Arne Riise.

But Benitez has little option to make many further changes without weakening his side, and he must wish Mohamed Sissoko was nearer a return from injury.

Although he is back in training after a dislocated shoulder, Sissoko has earmarked the Mersey derby on February 3 against Everton for his comeback.

Arsenal's Anfield goal-hero Tomas Rosicky wants Arsene Wenger's side to continue their ruthless streak away from home.

He said: 'In almost every game we have created so many chances and not taken them.

'Compare that to the game on Saturday when we were very productive. For example, I don't feel I played a good game even though I scored twice. I wasn't on the ball as much as I usually am so hopefully I can improve.

'I believe in this squad, this is a very good team but we have to be smarter.

We have to avoid mistakes and take our chances. Hopefully we will be at our best now.'

Rosicky added: 'It's a big boost to have Thierry back. He is fit now and maybe he was a bit tired before but the rest has done him some good and he scored again on Saturday.

'He is the best player I have played alongside, he is very quick and in this quickness he has very good technique.'

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger welcomes back Abou Diaby and points to his recovery as another reason why he will not be dabbling in the transfer window.

The French midfielder has not played since suffering a fractured and dislocated ankle at Sunderland last May.

Wenger said: 'We have Diaby in the squad for the first time and Emmanuel Adebayor is very strongly coming back. Blackburn is possible for him.

'Lauren is not in the squad for Liverpool, he has a small toe injury. William Gallas will not play either. But basically the only real injury is (Fredrik) Ljungberg, he needs one more week after Blackburn.

'That is why I said for a long time that I won't buy anyone (in the transfer window). I knew I had enough players when they came back from injury.'
