Re: English Premiership: 4/5th Nov

Not taking into account Man U or Liverpool as i think Reading may have shot their bolt now, it looks like another set of fixtures that could prove to be a minefield.

Still we've done ok on likewise occasions over the previous fortnight or so and lets hope we can do the same again come the weekend by sifting through them once the midweek Euro ties are out of the way with.

Blimey were as short as 5/4 with one bookie :loon ranges upto 17/10 though. Duno why wed be favourites at Fulham really.

Fulham is another strange bogie ground for us weve lost all 5 there (always beat em at ours though). Could we exercise a 3rd demon already this season? (the other 2 being drawing at Arsenal and winning at Spurs). Id rather be on Fulham at 7/4 than us tbh but best left alone really.

Aye ure right MrM, those odds are a piss take considering Fulham are at home, maybe the bookies are over reacting to Wigans win @ Craven Cottage in a game that only came to life in the last 15 mins or so in an otherwise dire match.

Still Everton are in with a good shout but not at any reasonable odds to tempt someone to back em as the game could easily go either way and if you can get 7/4 for Fulham then it does look the more sensible bet.

Boro are pretty poor on the road & might tempt me to take a glance at Watford @ 6/4. Other than that Evs on Villa was slightly bigger than I expected

i think wigan could surprise bolton (ODDS 3/1), they were all over fulham last saturday and should have won easily...plus its not fat to travel and bolton were knocked back down to earth by man utd.

Was thinking exactly the same gary , wouldn't really be interested but for the huge price there. Two similar muscular teams , nice big pitch , lots of travelling fans , 2 straight wins etc
Wigan for me a small stake single

Re: English Premiership: 4/5th Nov

Newcastle have a potentially tough game on Thursday night away to Palermo and then are playing another tough game on Sat night at 5:15pm against Sheff Utd.

Sheff Utd played OK against Chelsea at the weekend (except from the very poor penalty) and what I saw from the Newcastle Charlton game was Newcastle had a good first half but couldn't put the ball in the onion bag.

I'm tempted just now to have a bit of Sheff Utd on the Asian Handicap because Newcastle have hardly been setting the heather alight and with the tough game on Thursday night this might throw up other problems.

I know on the other foot if Newcastle come home with a 4-0 win then St James will be bouncing on Sat night.

Re: English Premiership: 4/5th Nov

Bolton looked overawed to me Gaz and Keema and never really got into the game, somthing they certainly won't be when Wigan turn up.
Sam will have given them one of the biggest bollockings they have ever had and i cannot see the same thing happening again but i also see Nolan is still suspended which is still a big loss as Giannakopoulos let Scholes run the show on Saturday.

It has the making of a very tight game but not one i'd be confident of Wigan winning, maybe taking Wigan on the half ball may be the better bet.

Re: English Premiership: 4/5th Nov

I'm beginning to fancy Villa more and more now that Savage lookes to be out again this time through Injury and another Thursday night UEFA cup game won't do them any favours whatsoever.
And as Swoops as mentioned evens on Villa looks a wee bit higher than expected if its still available.

Re: English Premiership: 4/5th Nov

I view Premier league fixtures post mid-week european football with a bit of trepidation and expectation of upsets . This is based mainly on nothing more scientific than "pub banter".I have not checked any stats with regard to this feeling. I believe that teams perform better the weekend before european football and worse the weekend after the european matches.I realise that I should investigate this "european hangover effect" or give the matches a miss.
My feelings for this weekend fixtures involving the teams that competed in europe midweek.

Liverpool v Reading
Liverpool have a great home record ,they produce a lot of chances , but their defence is slow and exploited by the better strikers .I can see Liverpool giving someone a hammering soon , they started well last week.Cannot see Reading being good enough away from home to trouble Liverpool

Man Utd v Portsmouth
Man U may have the biggest hangover , but they will have to have the biggest cure as well.

Newcastle v Sheff Utd
Newcastle suprise a lot of us on Thursday evening against the second team in Serie A and as keg has highlighted , St James' could be bouncing on Saturday evening.Watching that match the injuries forced Newcastle to overload the midfield , not the type of tactics to please the home fans.
I do not like following promoted teams away. This is a clash of two poor sides.

West Ham v Arsenal
Arsenal do play better away from their new ground .They ctreated the chances midweek but just could not convert them.
Last weekend West Ham got 2nd home win against an average Blackburn side.
I can see this being a high scoring match which Arsenal should win.

Aston Villa v Blackburn
Blackburn scored their 3 goals yesterday late in the second half. The draw does look dangerous but this is a match that Villa should win and 2.1 @ betfred is a decent price.

Tottenham v Chelsea
Spurs created a lot oif chances last night , but will not have the opportuinities against the Chelsea defence. Chelsea were relieved to get a draw at Barca and would be suffering from the european hangover .I should be on Spurs but their defence was inconsistent and a better side would have punished them last night.

In posting my thoughts I have persuaded myself that the european hangover will not have much of an effect.

The bets in the E.P.L. I'm considering for this weekend are :

LIVERPOOL -1.5 @2.1...betfair
MAN U -1.5@2.1...betfair
VILLA -0.5@2.12...betfair

A.H. carry 1% commission with betfair

Re: English Premiership: 4/5th Nov

I fancy Watford to get their first win of the season. I went to Boro's last away game and they were bloody awful. The only chances they really created were when Maccarone hit the post a couple of times late on. They don't give too much away at the back, but Watford surely like their chances to win this one.

Might have nibble on Charlton to beat Man City. City have been awful away from home this season. The only thing putting me off is that City have a decent recent record against Charlton.

Wouldn't dissuade you from that wager against city , we rarely put two wins together in the top flight.
Should have won their last year but they scored last touch , year before we battered them 5-2 or summat mind , not a bad ground for us recently.

10/1 for Portsmouth , rather large that I think. May look at the old asian for that
United will never be the United of old IMO , if O'Shea played then I'm on pompey.
Cambell is still good , James is having an indian summer , that's way too big
