Re: CC Championship: 11th - 13th Aug

Despite blowing a 2 goal lead yesterday, I'm sticking with Hull to beat Derby on Saturday. Not disgraced on Saturday and with a rocket up their arses for yesterdays nightmare I'm happy to be on them at that price.

Despite playing some decent football in the first half against Southampton, Derby haven't impressed overall in their two games so far.

I said at the beginning of last season that Derby tend to have either a good home form and crap away form or visa versa and this season it could well be the turn of the away form to let them down again.

Barnsley have let me down in the game that I backed them and then beaten the team that my money was on in the second game. That performance alone (coming back from 2 goals down) is enough motivation for me to back them against a team who look destined to struggle this season.

Re: CC Championship: 11th - 13th Aug

Preston having some early trouble and midweek they lost another defender as Alexander got sent off. I really don't know yet what to think about Wolves, but apparently some decent football with 10 men agst Ipswich. Cort got the red card so that's a minus, but maybe the home win is worth at least a small bet.

Preston's coach:

"I had just 17 fit bodies out of a squad of 31, which for me is not enough," said Simpson.

"I can't do anything about the injury list we have got and it doesn't look as if it is going to be easing very much in the short-term.

"But we are continuing to look at bringing players in. It is very important that we get some strength back into the squad.

Yip I agree lads , looks a good bet at odds against , Wolves look solid whilst no goals yet for Preston tells a tale.

Re: CC Championship: 11th - 13th Aug

Team news from Wolves vs Preston

From http://soccernet.espn.go.com/preview?id=202783&cc=5739

Wolves striker Carl Cort will be forced to sit out the home clash with Preston as he starts a three-game suspension.
Cort was sent off during the 1-0 midweek win over Ipswich.
Lewis Gobern is set to miss out once again as he continues his recovery from a groin strain, while Leon Clarke remains sidelined by an ankle problem.
Central defender Gabor Gyepes and right-back Jackie McNamara remain short of full fitness following surgery to repair cruciate knee ligament injuries.

Preston manager Paul Simpson will be without skipper Graham Alexander for the trip.
The right-back was sent off in the 2-0 defeat at Norwich in midweek and North End were unable to appeal against the decision, so the Scotland international starts a three-match ban.
Midfielder Brian O'Neil, who has yet to feature this season because of a knee injury, could be pressed into action but a question mark remains over striker Danny Dichio (hip).
Winger Lewis Neal (ankle) could come into contention but Simpson still has a long injury list, with Joe Anyinsah (thigh) also sidelined.
Adam Nowland and Brett Ormerod are both recovering from broken legs and Youl Mawene, Callum Davidson and Andy Smith (all knee) are also out long-term.

Simpson said: "We know it's going to be tough but if we go there and make it as hard as possible for Wolves in the opening stages of the game, their fans are not easy as a home player to play in front of. We've got to make it as difficult for them as possible and make the home crowd work to our advantage."

From
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot..._1/4779359.stm

Wolves striker Carl Cort starts a three-game ban and he may be replaced by Leon Clarke.
Left-back Lee Naylor has recovered from illness, but Lewis Gobern is set to miss out once again as he continues his recovery from a groin strain.

Preston are without skipper Graham Alexander who starts a three-game ban.
Midfielder Brian O'Neil may play despite a knee injury, while Danny Dichio (hip) and Lewis Neal (ankle) are both doubtful for the match.

The two sources seem to disagree if Leon Clarke will play. Some can shed some light on this?

All in all seems that 2.10 @ Betfair on Wolves is a very good price against injury ridden Preston.

Re: CC Championship: 11th - 13th Aug

Sunderland v Plymouth

From BBC

Sunderland boss Niall Quinn is waiting to hear whether an improved bid for Spurs' Andy Reid has been successful.
He has also not given up hope of signing defender Calum Davenport, who could be a crucial addition after Steve Caldwell's knee injury.

Midfielder Lilian Nalis (ankle) has been ruled out of Plymouth's side.

That could mean a second successive start for 18-year-old Luke Summerfield, or Bojan Djordjic could play on the left with Lee Hodges in the centre.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Sunderland must win this game in order to recover from the 2 losses. We don’t have to judge too harsh on them, because they played against 2 very strong oponents – Birmingham and Coventry, both expected to make it at least to the playoffs. Last years Premiership disaster cant be healed over a night and Quinn knows that very well. Now it’s a perfect moment to grab the 3 points hosting an average team as Plymouth. The visitors started well with 1 win and 1 draw. They won their game with Colchester, but I wouldn’t make some general conclusions from it. Colchester are my biggest favourite to go down and this was only proved once again.
I can only imagine how hard will Plymouth find it at The Stadium of Light this weekend against a fully motivated Sunderland side, good home support and a strong team of course. Sunderland has Caldwell injured for some time now and that’s a blow. But I think this will not affect them too much this time as Plymouth isnt such a threat. Last season they won only 3 games away from home, but clinched a draw in 10 and lost 10. Also they never were a scoring team with only 39 goals scored during the whole season, 13 of them away from home. So expect them to play defensively once again.
Last time they played here, 1 season ago, Sunderland trashed them 5-1. This time perhaps there wont be the same hammering, but I fully expect the black cats to nail their first victory in the new campaign.

7 pts Sunderland @ 1.75 - 10Bet, Globet, Interwetten

Re: CC Championship: 11th - 13th Aug

Stoke V Birmingham

I may be interested in Laying the home side here , I think Brum have started well and have a bit of momentum already , Stoke have injuries too

Quote:

Stoke v Birmingham

Stoke new-boy Danny Higginbotham is a major doubt after injuring his knee in a collision with team-mate Peter Sweeney in the 2-0 win over Derby.

Marlon Broomes is almost certain to miss out once again, while Andy Wilkinson, Adam Rooney and Sam Bangoura are definitely out. Birmingham striker DJ Campbell (hamstring) is hoping to be fit. Cameron Jerome will serve the second game of a three-match ban, while Rahdi Jaidi is not yet considered fit enough.

Re: CC Championship: 11th - 13th Aug

I agree with the Wolves choice for tonight.

I don't have great faith in them but I always felt that Preston might struggle this season and so far the signs are that they will. No goals and one point. An entirely new back four from last season which may be vunerable.

The 2.1 on a Wolves victory looks fair enough considering that they are at home. Modest stakes only

Re: CC Championship: 11th - 13th Aug

ouch! Nugent with two looks to have sealed the game for Preston.

Wolves eh?

If I was so inclined I'd be all over the unders in Leicester v Ipswich , i just cant see either team scoring in this one . Could be a long old season for Magilton's boys as they have been dismantled recently. Leicester have a defensive feel about them. No goals for me there.

I like Burnley this season , Cotterill has made some good signings and they've slowly strengthened. Wednesday have a crisis injury wise , they have 1 fit striker .

Bunley 3.05 5/10

Re: CC Championship: 11th - 13th Aug

Crappy, crappy wolves. What can PNE do if someone comes in for Nugent?

I saw Leicesters first game @ Luton and have to say that their defense was pretty much all over the place, but reports say the 2nd game was a bit better.

I like Burnley also, but I've already picked them twice correctly and 3rd time is never lucky for me, well maybe a small bet.

Saints might be missing Bale and Pele + the already missing defending trio of Lundekvam, Svensson and Powell. BalePele missing and it's 3 out of 4 from this seasons first starting 11. Must check the line-ups of course.

Re: CC Championship: 11th - 13th Aug

Event: Colchester vs.. Barnsley

Team news from http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot..._1/5248254.stm

Colchester are set to be unchanged for the visit of fellow newcomers Barnsley.

Striker Marino Keith remains absent with a long-term ankle problem, while defender Lawrie Wilson could be added to the squad. New signing Colin Healy will go straight into Barnsley's squad after impressing in a trial.

Boss Andy Ritchie has no new injury or suspension worries, but has hinted several players are pushing hard for a place in his starting line-up.

Statistics:

Form

Barnsley
Aug 8, 06 Hull 2 - 3 Barnsley
Aug 5, 06 Barnsley 1 - 2 Cardiff

Colchester
Aug 8, 06 Colchester 0 - 1 Plymouth
Aug 5, 06 Birmingham 2 - 1 Colchester

Head to Head

Feb 25, 2006 League One Barnsley Colchester 1 - 0
Aug 13, 2005 League One Colchester Barnsley 1 - 0
Apr 30, 2005 League One Barnsley Colchester 1 - 1
Dec 07, 2004 League One Colchester Barnsley 0 - 2
Jan 10, 2004 League One Colchester Barnsley 1 - 1
Aug 09, 2003 League One Barnsley Colchester 1 - 0
Mar 22, 2003 League One Barnsley Colchester 1 - 1
Oct 29, 2002 League One Colchester Barnsley 1 - 1

Reasoning:
Colchester lost the first two matches this season. Barnsley did two good games one won and one lost. They are not unused to beating Colchester at home as their history shows.
I get the feeling that this will be impress the coach game for some Barnsley players. The Colchester side is unchanged and that probably means that their results will be unchanged

Selection:
I'll go for Barnsley straight victory @ 3.00 5/10
If you are more careful you can try Barnsley +0 handicap @ 2.20 8/10

Re: CC Championship: 11th - 13th Aug

I've had a piece of Birmingham (0, -0.5) @ 2.14 with Lads

I've backed them Ante Post and this is the first time I've had to see any live Championship TV and as I'm still not disciplined enough not to bet on ALL live TV games - bet had to be placed.
