I noticed Blackpool had signed Barry Ferguson from Birmingham which looked a very impressive signing. He's no replacement for Charlie Adam mind as he seldom ventures out of his own half but he does get things started and won't give the ball away. Also does a decent job of breaking up attacks. Very good acquisition in my opinion. X2 potential there you think? Or are Blackpool going to struggle this season?

I could be interested in a dodgy looking Cardiff X2 actually. Looks like they're about to bring in Kenny Miller from Turkey and he's proven he can score plenty of goals at this level with Wolves. He's no Messi but he works his arse off every game and people often underestimate the space his movement creates for others.

I know they've lost 12 players but Malky Mackay seems to be picking up some decent looking signings to me. Craig Conway from Dundee Utd is known for quality crosses into the box and assists and is another who should be more than capable at Championship level.

Cardiff are also poised to sign 22-year-old French striker Rudy Gestede, formerly of French side Metz.

Never heard of him but a former U19 international so can't be that bad.

The odds aren't exactly exciting me but I'll be scribbling it down as one to consider. Could be these new players will all need a lot of time to settle in.

Possibly, Mickey. It depends what you read into pre season friendlies i suppose. Hull beat Liverpool in a friendly at the weekend 3-0 and it was a decent strength 'pool team....

I like Nigel Pearson as a manager and i think Hull are in for a good season, i'll shout they will finish in a play off place after having a season of adapting to life back in the championship after relegation.

I think my plan of attack in the football leagues on the opening day of the season will to be look to back against teams that were relegated, out of the 3 in this league i might chance Derby to beat Brum.

Derby was one I was looking at, Punter. I know a couple of their players from Scottish football. Chris Maguire they signed from Aberdeen - a player I rate (he's the one that scored from the half-way line against Iceland). And Brum no longer have the ROCK SOLID Roger Johnson at the back. Wolves have done well picking him up. And Ferguson has gone to Blackpool of course and he seemed one of the few in that team that could actually pass the ball.

for what its worth,I would have to agree that,if theres any value at all,then it has to be Cardiff and Derby.
the only other team whose odds could be value are saints imo.

I don't think i'll be looking to cardiff as i think their team is much weaker than last season and West Ham will be wanting to post a statement of intent in front of their own fans after last years nightmare. they are still the team to win this league for me.

I like the shout on Derby as they have made good signings and I think in front of their own fans against a demoralised City side they will have the upper hand. city will defend doggedly though. its a matter if they can keep their normal organisation.

i was also looking at boro who finished their season on a high and will be looking to keep up the momentum. i think they are much stronger than pompey who i think will be bottom half fodder this season. not sure the price is great value though?

Just noticed all of the newly promoted teams have their first game at home. i've made good money in the past betting on promoted team's first home game in the prem but not sure if you get the same trend in other leagues. might have some small stakes on Brighton, Southampton and Peterborough just as an experiment.

I expect Middlesbrough to at least be challenging around the play-off spots this time, Rob. They do have the makings of a good squad there I believe. I was away to say anything around evens for the home win would interest me and just spotted they're exactly that with bet365

That was ten years ago Mickey. Miller is absolutely shite now. Turkey and Scotland are about his barrow. He'll be shown up for the headless chicken that he is in a tough league like this.

Nah - he was actually improved a lot before his Turkey move - even for Scotland (and how many of Kris Boyd's goals for Rangers were down to him dragging defenders out of position? A lot I think).

He still has "issues" when it comes to composure but he's ok as long as his brain isn't allowed to kick in. The Championship will suit him just fine.
