Southampton are 4/5 just to get promoted with skybet. that seems a solid enough bet for me. Are Southampton looking ok for this season?

Re: CC League One 2010/11

Southampton will be right up there come the end of the season.

My choice (although it pains me) is Sheffield Wednesday. They have an astute manager in Alan Irvine, and they have players capable of causing some real problems. They've brought in Clinton Morrison, Neil Mellor, Paul Heffernan and Giles Coke and they already have the likes of Lee Grant, Mark Beevers, Marcus Tudgay, Jermaine Johnson, Darren Potter - they are going to take some beating in League One next season. I'll be going with them.

Cheers,

ST

Icon3 Huddersfield Town.

I've just been looking over Huddersfield's squad for next year, and I really think they could go that one step further. They've already added Joey Gudjonsson and Joe Garner to the ranks, which contain some very good players already. I'm off down to Oakwell on Saturday to watch us take them on in a friendly so that will give me some more food for thought. I will let you know the outcome. 9/1 is quite tempting at the minute though, and they did beat (I know, meaningless) Blackburn in a friendly last night.

Cheers,
ST

Re: CC League One 2010/11

I've watched both Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday so far this pre-season, and out of the two, I've been the more impressed with Huddersfield. At the back, the did look a little shakey, but they still have McCombe and Clarke, as well as Gary Naysmith to come back into the fold. In Lee Croft, they have a gem of a player for League One in my opinion and in Graham Carey, from Celtic, they have the makings of a great left back.

Sheffield Wednesday did NOT impress me at all. They've lost Lee Grant and they didn't put their full team out against us, but they had enough talent in their to do a job. However, Tudgay and Mellor looked disinterested, with the latter also looking a real fat object. Their best player was their left back, Daniel Jones, who I believe they've signed from Wolves? May be wrong on that, but he could prove to be a real asset in League One. Jermaine Johnson, if he sticks around will also do well as will the likes of Darren Potter, Clinton Morrison and Giles Coke.

I think I'll be going for Southampton for the title, with Huddersfield possibly finishing second, although in all honesty, I think either team will struggle in the Championship if they don't strenghten. We looked seasons ahead of both sides and that has to be testament to Mark Robins's methods and endeavour in the transfer market and on the training field.

Cheers,
ST

Re: CC League One 2010/11

Hot Shot Saints to fire into Championship

Onto league one, where I’m hopefully Southampton can get back up into the championship now they don’t have the points penalty they had last year. Southampton have plenty of firepower in the side, and their main man Rickie Lambert is sure to fire again, having totalled a very impressive 30 league goals last season. There not a one man team though, Lee Barnard joined Southampton in January and made a big impact towards the end of last season. He scored 9 goals for Southampton, to add to the 15 goals he got for Southend before his move. With these two paired together you do fear for some of the weaker league one sides. Just when you think it can’t get any worse for the opposition Adam Lallana, a creative midfielder also knows where the net is looks destined for a big season. He managed an impressive 15 goals from midfield last season. Providing Southampton can hang on to these key players I can’t see anyone else being able to challenge them for the league title this year.

The rest of the league looks wide open to me, and I couldn’t really give one team as a threat to Southampton. Sheffield Wednesday have a decent squad, although they have thrown together a number of players and it could take a while for them to gel. They are also at the moment lacking a recognised goalkeeper. Plymouth have kept a core from the side that got relegated last year, and have quietly gone about their business bringing in a few free transfers. They could be helped by going down with Sheffield Wednesday as all eyes are on Wednesday and there seems to be no pressure on Plymouth to bounce back. The same could be said about Peterborough, who also dropped down from the championship. Like Plymouth they have kept a core together and quietly gone about their business adding a few free transfers through the summer.
