Re: Championship: 13 Mar

How's it going guys? I trust you are well? I'm a little disappointed to see some of the old faces still pottering around here. I thought at least one of you would've won big and moved to Australia or some shit. Never mind. Anyways, I've been away from the boards, but I've still been entering the old betting realm to have a sly flutter, and doing reasonably well I might add. Here's my shot at the Championship this week:

Barnsley vs Crystal Palace

Don't fool yourself. Last weekends 'hammering' at Newcastle was a very unfair reflection on the game. I was at St James' and for 44 minutes, we battled Newcastle and stifled them; they never looked like scoring until Mr Hegley of Hertfordshire decided upon himself to give Newcastle a very dubious penalty and send off Luke Steele. The rest is history. I can see the Reds wanting to bounce back from such a disappointing result and I think they will.

Prediction: Barnsley 2 - 0 Crystal Palace

Coventry City vs Plymouth Argyle

Plymouth seemed to have gotten themselves into a bit of a fighting mode of late, however, I can't see them getting anything at the Ricoh. Coventry are going through a purple patch at the minute, and with the playoffs firmly in their sights, I can see them taking one step closer to 6th place with a relatively comfortable win here.

Prediction: Coventry City 3 - 1 Plymouth Argyle

Doncaster Rovers vs Derby County

This is a tough one to call. Both sides on their day can play some decent football, and at the Keepmoat, Doncaster generally take some beating. They've dispatched of some good sides their this season, and I think Derby will become another statistic on Saturday. That said, Doncaster generally beat the good sides, and lose to the, well, not so good. Still, home win for me.

Prediction: Doncaster Rovers 2 - 1 Derby County

Ipswich Town vs Scunthorpe United

For me, it was only a matter of time before the likes of QPR, Reading and Ipswich began to find their real Championship feet and started winning games again. They seem to be in the mood at the minute and I think they'll gain all 3 points at home to Scunthorpe. I can see it being pretty easy to be honest.

Prediction: Ipswich Town 4 - 1 Scunthorpe United

Leicester City vs Cardiff City

Turmoil in Cardiff! Closure on the horizon. Bad results and performances on the pitch. What's going wrong? Well, whatever it is, they'll need to rectify it fairly quickly, otherwise 6th place will soon slip out of their grasp. Leicester are no mugs at all, and they'll want to bounce back in front of their home fans after that poor showing at Hillsborough last weekend. Home win for me.

Prediction: Leicester City 2 - 0 Cardiff City

Middlesborough vs Newcastle United

Hardest game to call for me this weekend, and I'm sure everyone will agree. Middlesborough have turned the Riverside into something of a fortress and against their arch rivals, they'll want to gain all 3 points here. Newcastle have shown that they are too good for the Championship, but I can genuinely see them struggling in this fixture. I think the hard work and endeavour of Middlesborough will outshine the flash and glamour of the Toon and even though I want to say draw, I'm going to stick my neck on the line and go for a Boro win.

Prediction: Boro 2 - 1 Newcastle United

Reading vs Bristol City

This will be an interesting one. Both sides seem to be on a nice little run at the moment. I haven't got that much to say really. Draw? Yeah, s'pose.

Prediction: Reading 2 - 2 Bristol

Preston vs Forest

I can honestly see Preston getting a win here. I don't know why, I can just feel it in my bones. Anyone agree? I'm going for it.

Prediction: Preston 2 - 0 Forest

Swansea vs Sheffield Wednesday

The only thing that I can think of that could possible offer a glimmer of hope to Wednesday here, is the fact that Swansea don't score that many goals. If they defend stoutly and pinch a goal, they could just do it and at 7/1...well, damn, I'd be willing to risk it and think that they could. Do I want them to? No. HELL, no. Heart vs Head situation? Hmmm. Go on then, fuck it - at 7/1 I'd be willing to have a little punt.

Prediction: Swansea 0 - 1 Sheffield Wednesday

Watford vs Peterborough

This one doesn't need too much consideration. Does anyone have a good case for Peterborough? I suppose they'll be quietly confident after that great win over Sheffield United in midweek, but I can't see them backing that up here.

Prediction: Watford 3 - 0 Peterborough

Sheffield United vs Q.P.R.

Haha, what a great match. Warnocks back at the Lane. What will happen? I don't know. QPR doing well again. United going down 0-1 in midweek at Peterborough. Hmmm. I'm going to say away win.

Prediction: United 1 - 2 QPR

West Brom vs Blackpool

I'd be interested to see the best prices on Blackpool. A good price may just turn my noggin. However, I can't see past the Baggies at home, so without said good price, I'd be hell bent on a home win.

Prediction: West Brom 1 - 0 Blackpool

Whatever happens. Good luck all.

Re: Championship: 13 Mar

At those prices I'm looking at Ipswich, Newcastle, Derby and Leicester (in reverse order of confidence).

I agree with SuperTyke's write up about the Doncaster Derby game and their inconsistency is the very thing that will make them value to back between now and the end of the season. By that I mean that they are not reliable enough to back them at anywhere near even money but I'd back them at around 6/4 and above against anyone between now and the end of the season as they float towards a pressure free end of season and come up against teams battling for points at the top and bottom of the league. Yes I know that relegation is possible but it just isn't going to happen.

Leicester at home against a freefall Cardiff. I'd normally be looking to go against the tide of opinion and take the value on the underdog biting back but not away to Leicester. To be honest, I don't give a fuck if Cardiff go out of business or not. There needs to be sacrifice before football takes some notice and cuts player wages -the threat of it simply has not been enough - and the anti-English chants of the Cardiff followers is nothing short of racism. If it was against any other nationality in the world they'd face fines and sanctions but there appears to be no such thing as racism against England.

That's a new angle ODM , you should maybe do a system of countries/clubs who hate England!
As for this wages crap , if you cut the wages we will end up with players such as Robbie Savage getting player of the year for his tackling.
Footballers are now stupid and immoral but the football is better. the very fact that Cardiff Swindon and Pompey are in trouble actually proves your point

Re: Championship: 13 Mar

The football is better Keem. I love it. I never miss an opportunity to argue with those who say that Sky have ruined the game with their cash. It's bollox. Sky have made the football as great as it is today. I have no problem whatsoever if clubs pay out every single penny that they get in. It's their money. The problem is that they are paying out money that they don't have and that's not only wrong, it's unsustainable.

You're not telling me that a player plays any better for 120 grand a week than he would do for 100 grand a week. I don't blame the players either, just the stupidity of the Chairmen and their boards. Clubs need to get an understanding of what achievements are reasonable and what are not and spend accordingly. It's not the end of the world if you spend three years out of ten in the Prem and the other seven in the championship. Never mind what the fans think, most of them are fucking idiots anyway. Proof of that is everywhere you look, from the dickhead Charlton fans who decided it was time to get rid of Curbishley because midtable in the prem was not good enough, to the retarded pomposity of the United fans who predicted that the Glazers would be a failure and that Old Trafford would never be full again (that was about six trophys or so ago).

Re: Championship: 13 Mar

Dont et me started about all that green and gold crap , fuk knows where the gold came from as they originally played in Yellow and green. The stupidity of the cnuts who buy the scarves from the club shop , pay the £40 notes to watch the game and then 'protest' against the owners that have overseen nothing but sucess. The only reason and I mean the ONLY reason these knobheads are protesting is because city have all the money in the world and they want it!
I agree that Coventry look very big there at home btw

Re: Championship: 13 Mar

Swansea clean sheet 10/11
Swansea win to nil 5/4

they just dont concde do they, 20 clean sheets in 35 games inlucding 3 out of there last 4 and 4 out of there last 5 home games, they constantly keep it tight

there last 16, 16!! games have finished under 2.5 goals so the 8/13 on that might tempt some

Wedensday havent scored in 4 of there last 5 games either

10/11 looks very nice if you ask me

Re: Championship: 13 Mar

Reading are doing ok and seem to have picked up and I think they'll prove too strong at home against Bristol City. Alyhough Newcastle arent playing well I think they too will get a result.

New manager has settled in well at QPR and I may also back them this weekend... think they'll be good to keep on the right side.

Re: Championship: 13 Mar

Coventry v Plymouth

If I had to pick a banker home win in this division, it would be COventry. Having won 7 out of their last 8 home games in Championship, this should be a formality against a Plymouth tema who flounder big time away from home. Occasionally they can pull off a shock, and they are capable of scoring a goal, but 3 goals against a shit Sheffield United isnt really anyhting to shout about and Coventry should overcome the handicap easily..

Coventry (-0.75) @ 2.08 (188Bet) - 5/10 confidence
