Re: CC League 1 Sat 8th Aug 09

The Gills first game back in league one sees us take on Swindon at Priestfield which incidentally was also the last game we played in league one! Interesting huh!?..ok maybe not..

Gills have significant injury problems for this one, firstly Simon King is out which is a huge blow as he is our best player by miles! Holds the defence together single handedly (sadly no Im not exaggerating!) and whenever he didnt play last year we looked very vunerable at the back..the rest of the back four will be the same as last year with new signing Josh Gowling filling in for Kingy although if they have any movement at all up front im guessing we'll be struggling!..
Goalkeeper situation is a bit unclear also with Royce (virtual ever present last year) looking likely to be dropped for understudy Julian who has never really convinced anyone when hes played..

In midfield new signing Maher is out as is Lewis who figured stongly towards the end of last season..they are both holding defensive midfielders who both would have played so its possible 17yr old Jack Payne will come in (whos never played) to fill in as he is the only cover we have for this type of player..Adam Miller should be fit but wont lift the spirits of the crowd too much as he is generally pretty hated! (Not by me mind)..new signing from Charlton Yussuff looks likely to start, or possibly a young lad who is highly rated Rooney, but I cant see that happening..up front it will prob be Simeon Jackson (recently returned from Gold Cup duty with Canada so not sure how fresh he will be) and ....sigh....McCammon as usual support striker Oli is also injured!

Swindon seem to be picked by most people as one of the sides to watch this season and with at least four of our first choice players out its not an ideal time to play them..its kicking off at 12.30 on police advice as we err...dont really like each other and it kicked off a bit last time! Fair few arrests and stuff, outside the ground as well, the crowd will certainly be up for it and imagine they will bring a fair few also, am looking forward to it but looking at the side we will have out I think we will struggle particuarly if Swindon are as good as people think they might be..you could prob do worse than back Swindon at 3.1 which they are best priced at currently..I'll be there regardless!..

Weren't Leeds our last game in League one?

Anyway, in case you've not seen, we've just signed another striker. Jacob Erskine, apparently played against us (and caused us quite a few problems) in a friendly for Bromley last week.
