Re: CC Championship 9th-10th Aug 08

Palace, Ipswich, Wolves, and Burnley all interest me.

I'm not too clued up on English league football, but I think Watford and Plymouth will struggle majorly this season. Possibly even in a relegation battle? Burnley have signed some decent players, and aren't Ipswich normally quite a safe bet at home?

Be interested to hear some early thoughts as I wouldn't be surprised to see some of these early prices disappear fairly quickly...

Re: CC Championship 9th-10th Aug 08

alrite guys,, just a few words before i start - ROLL ON THE NEW SEASON ..

from first look i would be interested myself in IPSWICH and QPR in this league..

IPSWICH were brilliant at home last year,, i know that was last year but i think they might go far this season,, playoffs is a maybe for them,

mind you i wont be having large stakes as itd the start of the season and anything can happen

GL

QPR have signed some players out of their league,, ur man from Real Madrid and getting Lee Cook back from Fulham can only add to the squad.. Barnsley had a brilliant end to last season but i think they might be in another relegation battle again...

Re: CC Championship 9th-10th Aug 08

I agree entirely belfasty , no large stakes and definately no aways for me yet .
Looks like the bookies are taking no chances with the hoops from the get go.
I'd like Ipswich too at home but not against Preston who could do comething this season I feel.

I'm gonna stay away from the aways and search for an edge somewhere. I think Brum could be under pressure right from the off mind

Re: CC Championship 9th-10th Aug 08

I've just replied to this pissing thread and it's gone missing.

You won't very often catch me backing Derby but this is one of those rare times. Around 4/5 on Betfair 100 points.

My other big bet of the weekend is a lay of Reading as they wake up to the culture shock of dropping from the prem against a Forest side who already know the score in that department.

Been watching some recent Forest frientdlies and, to be honest, I haven't seen one decent goal yet. I think they will miss Einstein Agogo and although I rate Earnshaw a far better player than he's shown at his last two clubs (confidence is his missing ingredient that a long run in a side could put right) I don't see him hitting the ground running in the first game of the season. I Reading turning up in fancy Dan mode and getting a bloody nose.

Lay of Reading HT/FT to win 50 pts (after commision) or lose 205.

Out of those, I'd be inclined to take on:

Cardiff

The rest are all pretty volatile. I reckon Doncaster could cause a scare at Debry, and pinch at least a draw. Don't underestimate Barnsley at QPR - Rangers are one of the pre-season favourites (however, their form isn't the best going into the opening match) but a quickly assembled team could take time to gel and don't read too much into Barnsleys relegation battle last season - they were coping quite well (beating every team in the top 10) up until the magnificent cup run. Sheffield United could well give Birmingham a run for their money - again, it's not easy for the teams coming down. Will the mindsets be correct? And more than likely, the teams who are already in the Championship, will be digging in deep to claim a scalp.

I'm not taking these, but these would be my predictions:

Sheffield United to beat Birmingham (well worth a shot).
Blackpool to beat Bristol City (again, Blackpool are solid at home)
Cardiff to beat Southampton
Charlton to beat Swansea (However, a draw wouldn't be a bad bet)
Coventry to beat Norwich
Palace to beat Watford
Derby to beat Doncaster (again, a draw would be a good bet)
Ipswich to beat Preston
Wolves to beat Plymouth (anyone fancy the draw here?)
Barnsley to beat QPR (you heard me)
Sheffield Wednesday to beat Burnley
Reading to beat Forest

My bet for the weekend however, is:

Montrose to beat Berwick 11/10
Wycombe to beat Morecambe 4/5
Bradford to beat Notts County 8/11
Huddersfield to beat Stockport 8/11 (likely a 1-0)
Cardiff to beat Southampton (10/11)

Accumulator at 21/1

Good stuff supertyke , I cant be backing Barnsley but I aint on QPR either , Darren Moores gonna be a big signing for you I rekon and Ian Hulmes at 1.2million smacks of a bit of ambition , he was Leicester Player of the year I think last season.

Look out for the special thread for weekend bets tyke , my golden rule is never more than a treble as there's always one bastid that screws your coupon.

Hang on , so Derby come down as the worst team ever and they will win , however Reading who just lost out will have some kind of culture shock?

Next you'll be doing a systme based on 'new manager syndrome'
You're turning into gettin , he'll be on shortly backing Forest

Re: CC Championship 9th-10th Aug 08

Cheers Keemanan,

I was actually going to go for a fivefolds from seven bet. £10.50 on with potential return of £250. As, like you said, there is always one team who fails to perform.

Do you reckon that would be a decent bet? By the way, I also threw Brechin in there too...

Re: CC Championship 9th-10th Aug 08

Personally , no more than trebles for me and keep your stakes nice and low untill the season get's into itself I rekon.
I'm liking Sheff Utd more and more , Brum have lost 2 centre halfs , this could be a nice edge . It does of course go against the grain a bit being an away and so early in the season, who needs dicipine!
jaidi out for Brum

Quote:
The City centre-half was forced out of the action in the weekend friendly against Fulham, but scans have confirmed no serious damage.
Blues manager Alex McLeish will already be without summer signing Kemy Agustien, recovering from a hernia operation, when his side kick-off the new season.

Just to note, the price on Wolves has already dropped to 13/8. I'd expect it'll drop further. I know where (most of) my money will be going this weekend!

Re: CC Championship 9th-10th Aug 08

Bugger and bollocks. I've been going to post about Wolves for days but I saw ODM fancied them in the ante post and it put me off them. I saw they'd made a few 'solid' signings though. Chris Iwel.. er... Iwleouso. You know the fella. Iwelumo? Big guy, difficult to deal with. Not the most profilic but will do a job. Was reading that he decided to join as Wolves will be playing with wingers and he's expecting loads of crosses into the box etc. And a fella from Derby who will have experience of this league.

I expect Wolves to be a tough side to beat this season. Not sure they'll start with a win but good enough to get something. Sorry for this crap post. I have to go out and I'm late.

Re: CC Championship 9th-10th Aug 08

I was quietly confident of Barnsley's chances away at QPR this week. But we have just been dealt a bitter blow with the injury of Jamal Campbell-Ryce (undoubtedly the best player so far in pre-season) with a dislocated elbow (looking at 10 days at least)...

Still, fingers crossed.

Re: CC Championship 9th-10th Aug 08

What about Cardiff this weekend? They have some nice results in their friendlies and meet a Southampton that looks poor to me. Cardiff have beaten them three times in a row home now too. New Saints manager Jan Poortvliet have will have a tough first season in England.
