Keem' that's you, me and SuperTyke that wouldn't be surprised to see Sheff Utd win, 4.2 with Bet365 is going to be gone way before kick off. Brum are in a little trouble i think, if things arent right in the boardroom they won't be right on the pitch for to long imo.

Personally i wouldn't worry about taking away wins at this stage of the season, there are are alot of unknowns and when things are close it could pay to side with odds that make you believe they have little chance when really they do and should be a lot shorter.

I think 4.2 on the blades is huge actually, i'm going to split small level stakes on them and Wolves @ 2.75 who i think will also have a good season.
1 correct result out of the two shows a profit and that's my plan of attack in here this weekend.

Good luck all.

I'm liking Sheff Utd more and more , Brum have lost 2 centre halfs , this could be a nice edge . It does of course go against the grain a bit being an away and so early in the season, who needs dicipine!
jaidi out for Brum
brum only lost 1 centre half, augusten is a midfielder, if beattie plays we could be in trouble with taylor and ridgewell but a definite no bet for me, i will be at the game so hopefully see some pointers for the season ahead, obviously sheff u are the value at 3-1 but much better betting options elsewhere imo

wolves and burnley possibles for me, barnsley no bet with all their injuries but i think QPR are well overhyped and any other away team but the tykes i would be putting a few quid on.
why are derby bankers? donny are a good footballing side, plus a big away support for a pumped up side against a big team where the fans will turn if things arent going well after half an hour, the pressures on jewell

Sheffield Wednesday lost their opening six games last season and while manager Brian Laws will be doing everything in his power to ensure that doesn't happen again, the Owls could be worth taking on when free-spirited Burnley visit Hillsborough this weekend.

The Owls haven't been the most formidable team on home soil in recent years. They have lost more than a third of all their home games since returning to the Championship three years ago and while survival last term might have looked comfortable in the end, the reality was anything but.

Wednesday tasted defeat only twice in the final 16 games to finish the campaign outside of the bottom eight but it doesn't close come to painting an accurate picture of events.

A sequence of seven successive draws in March and April highlighted a nervous reluctance to seize the initiative as the stakes got higher and many were fearing the worst when the run ended with defeat at Blackpool with two games to play.

Burnley's parting of the ways with Steve Cotterill was one of the more surprising managerial changes of last season.

However, the Turf Moor board obviously saw something more appetising on the menu and the imaginative appointment of Owen Coyle suggests they have high hopes of mounting a genuine promotion challenge sometime soon.

It seems unlikely the charge will come this season because Coyle's transfer dealings so far appear to be firmly fixed on the future.

The youthful exuberance of attack-minded players like Chris Eagles, Kevin McDonald and Martin Paterson might not be enough to mount a sustained promotion bid this time around, but it can reap dividends at a ground like Hillsborough, especially if Wednesday remain their usual cagey selves.

Take the 9/4 available with totesport.

Meanwhile, the regularity with which Alan Pardew blew his top in the second half of last season suggests that something isn't quite right at Charlton because he is not a man who loses his cool easily.

The former West Ham boss prides himself on his level-headedness and the clarity of his decision making, qualities that were far from evident in the New Year. It seems an underlying disregard for the manager's long-term vision was at work somewhere within the dressing room.

A couple of notable departures over the summer hinted that maybe Pardew was getting to grips with the problem but now it transpires the club had sold those players from under his feet in order to balance the books.

The Addicks boss, to his credit, is toeing the party line and publicly stating his intention to give youth a chance this term. However, that won't be easy at all if the bad apples are still lurking somewhere at the back of the dressing room.

It remains to be seen how Swansea will cope with the step up to the Championship but the opening day of the season is not a time for nerves and trepidation, it is simply a time for excitement and anticipation.

The self-assessment of where the Jacks truly belong in the table can wait for at least another six weeks and the players will simply be encouraged to go out and strut their stuff with the same swagger they showed when romping to the League One title last season.

If Roberto Martinez can get his players to go out on the front foot, they are perfectly capable of causing Charlton problems and the Welsh club look to be worth an interest at 10/3.

The Londoners habitually struggle in games they are expected to win on home soil - they failed to beat either Scunthorpe or Colchester at The Valley last season - and Swansea can further blemish a sequence of only one win in the last seven at Floyd Road.

I think we've done some good business this summer. We have strengthened enormously in attack with the signings of Garner (top scorer and highly rated from Carlisle & ex-Blackburn). We have Andrew Cole in his swansong season (he can still pop them in at this level). We have Robert Earnshaw who always scores a shed load at this level too. Add these three to Nathan Tyson who has pace to burn and I think we have one of the best attacks in the division.

In midfield we have signed Guy Moussi - a future French International player according to many and Paul Anderson is on a season long loan from Liverpool who are suitably impressed enough with him to have given him a new 3 year deal. Anderson was on loan to Swansea last year and was their player of the year in a season when they won League One.

We have off loaded Agogo and Holt who were massively overated and seen Kris Commons leave to join Derby. Kris Commons is a good player and can create a lot - however like Andy Reid who left us a few seasons ago he is constantly over weight and always getting injured. Whilst I would have liked him to stay (as he is useful when he plays) he is a bit of a luxury player.

Calderwood always produces sides that don't concede many and this factor in conjunction with an improved attack and midfield leads me to believe that Nottingham Forest can get a play off place.

Another interesting tit-bit is that Calderwood has never managed a club that hasn't finished in at least the play offs in every season he has been a manager. Five seasons in charge of Northampton and Nottingham Forest - 3 play off places and 2 automatic promotions.

Current best price for the Reds is 33/1. I think that's a bit of value.
I wrote the above on the ante-post Championship thread about 2 weeks ago. I'm even more confident after having watched Forest today. 0-0 against a team that was playing Premiership football last year and have retained most of their squad for this season is no mean effort. Apart from one great save from Smith I thought Forest were clearly the better side in terms of possession and ambition.

With Cole, Anderson, Tyson and Garner all injured we had only one fit striker to field and I thought Robbie Earnshaw did quite well in that role. Narrowly missing to the right hand post in a good effort in the first half from outside the box and a strong run beating 3 players in injury time with a saved shot to follow was a decent effort by the little Welsh guy.

Moussi looked fantastic today and I would be surprised if he didn't win man of the match. I would love to see the stats on this player. He must have had a 95% pass completion ratio and was at the centre of everything. If he carries on like this he will be playing in the Premiership next year for some team (maybe even us!)

Lastly we fielded a team with no one over the age of 26 today so our youth set up and future looks pretty good (a lot of the players came from our academy).

There's no chance of us getting relegated and I fancy we'll get to the Play Offs.
