And you can add me to the list of Shrewsbury backers, took them each way at 16/1 last week. Nothing to add to what the others have already said, decent manager in Paul Simpson, and they're spending plenty on some very handy looking signings. |

Re: CC League Two: 08/09 Ante Post
Luton deducted 30 points. Hope nobody has backed them.
BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Luton | Luton to face 30-point deduction Luton Town face the prospect of starting next season on minus 30 points after a ruling by the Football League. The Hatters had already been deducted 10 points by the Football Association after being found guilty of misconduct for paying agents via a third party. And Luton Town 2020, the company formed to take over the club, has now been told it must accept a further 20-point deduction to play in League Two. The penalty is because Luton failed to satisfy the League's insolvency rules. <!-- E SF --> |

Re: CC League Two: 08/09 Ante Post
Yep Gary Holt is crap, shrewsbury done well though to get Grant Holt. He as playing on loan at Blackpool in the championship division at the end of last season. He scored 35 goals in 74 games for Rochdale when he was last in league 2, and him and Richard Walker should score around 40 between them. I wil lhave to see if I can still get on at a Betfred shop.

Re: CC League Two: 08/09 Ante Post
RIGHT, if you want to bet on Chesterfield this is major news. Darren Currie, the guy with the magic foot, has just signed for the Spireites. With him supplying the ammunition for Jack Lester we surely will go on and get promotion, the defence has been sorted too. Now if we sign a quality keeper I can see us winning the league.
GET IN!!!

Re: CC League Two: 08/09 Ante Post
A 3 year deal though for someone who's 33. If what I've read about his wages at Luton is true I'd imagine he'll be on a fair bit.
The guy is a hero at Barnet and I love him, at his peak he was superb, premiership ability, ryman league pace. Though he'll destroy the odd team single handedly I'm wondering if he's past it. On paper in one off games Chesterfield look more than a match for most with Currie and Lester firing on all cylinders. However my fear is whether they can keep them both fit for enough games. Still, it sets up a cracking first game of the season from my perspective because he'll get a great reception from the Bees fans. Frighteningly tough to pick a winner at the moment, the league looks very tight. Shrewsbury, Darlo, Lincoln and Bury are the sides currently on my shortlist, though that shortlist seems to change on a weekly basis. |

Re: CC League Two: 08/09 Ante Post
Ah interesting thoughts Frodo.
However, I must point one or two things out to you. Firstly Currie turned down a return to Brighton to come to Saltergate, the lure of 1 extra season was key. He is highly thought of still by Luton and Brighton fans (even if the latter hate to say so now) so must be able to do a job in this league. Add to that our other signings and I think a sizeable case could be made for us winning the league. We have signed Robert Page - Former Wales Captain Kevin Austin - Swansea veteran who played numerous times for them last season Paul Harsley - played 40 times last season for Port Vale and was there Captain Danny Hall - Played for Shrewsbury and Gretna last season So we have signed two captains, one veteran defender, a left winger who has a wicked dead ball and a good young centreback. Last season we lacked organisation, if we had a leader or two we would have been promotion candidates. We now have those players and we are looking to sign a Premiership youngster for the nets and a couple more loanees/freebies to go with them. If we get off to a cracker I cannot see us blowing it like last season. Looking forward to Barnet, might make the cross country trip from 007s HQ |

Re: CC League Two: 08/09 Ante Post
I don't think there will be as long as Bournemouth and Rotherham have the prospect of being deducted points. Last time I checked the bookies didn't even have match bet markets for these two and Luton. Damn their unexpected competence!
Some L2 squad reviews here, 3/4 are being added each day.......... The League Portal |
