15TH-16TH April Welsh Premier League
these odds from paddies
Saturday is the final day of the season
15th Apr 2008
19:30 Bangor City v Rhyl 2.62 3.20 2.37
These two are big rivals with the fans having to be segregated .
This is very unusual for this league.
Bangor in the Welsh Cup so the playerS may not commit 100%
Rhyl mathematically could finish 2nd but they have got to win both games and TNS lose their last two matches
There is great rivalry between these two clubs , more between the fans than the players.
I can see Rhyl winnig this one .
19:30 Connah's Quay v The New Saints 5.50 3.75 1.50
Connah's Quay are a poor side but are safe from relegation.
They only lost 0-1 to Llanelli on Saturday.
TNS lost on Friday when they played some youngsters against Airbus , they must get 1 point to confirm second spot.
19:30 Llanelli v Newtown 1.22 5.00 10.00
Champions playing at home for the first time since confirming that they have won the title.
They will be out to celebrate.
Newtown are usually poor away , worse in midweek and against the best team in the league we could see a lot of goals for Llanelli tonight.
19:30 Welshpool v Port Talbot 2.30 3.20 2.70
Welshpool are midtable and lost with a late goal at Haverfordwest at the weekend.
Port Talbot got well beaten 5-0 by Rhyl on Saturday , they are inconsistant away
16th Apr 2008
early k.o.Caernarfon v Llangefni 2.20 3.25 2.80
Caernarfon safe , because they won 1-0 at home to Aber on Saturday
Llangefni at the bottom of the table on goal difference.
Caernarfon have financial problems and are struggling to pay their floodlight electricity bill.
So the kick off is early at 6:00 , Llangefni are happy with this special arrangement, why?
It is "suggested" that Caernarfon will field 8 players from their second string.
this could be confirmed in the dailypost on Wednesday , you can check here , but i'll post again on Wednesday.
bottom of the table
Caernarfon pl32 pts30
Caersws pl33 pts26
Porthmadog pl33 pts24
Llangefni pl32 pts24
I'll be backing Llangefni but hoping for a Caernarfon win

Re: 15TH-16TH April Welsh Premier League
toaday's match previews from the dailypost
Llanelli v Newtown
Quote:
Meanwhile, Newtown, buoyed by their first win in nine Welsh Premier outings, look to gatecrash Llanelli’s title party when they make the trip to Stebonheath Park tonight, writes John Bridgwater.
It promises to be a tricky night for the Robins, but they can take heart from last weekend’s welcome 1-0 verdict over Newi Cefn Druids in their last home outing.
Newly-crowed champions Llanelli will be toasting their league triumph on home soil, but manager Darren Ryan hopes his side can dampen the celebrations, although his plans are hit by absentees.
“We’ll be going down there looking to win as we want to get to 40 points and finish the season positively,” he said.
“I’m not sure what side Llanelli will have out now they’ve won the league, but we’ve got a few missing so we’ll be giving another chance to some of the youngsters.”
Tommy Mutton is out with an injury sustained in Saturday’s warm-up, while Glenn Tolley, Hugh Clarke and Karl Seliaerts are also missing. Dan Griffiths is set for a start.
|
this post has a Northern slant which favours Newtown , 1.25 are poor odds , Expekt offer 1.65 for ht/ft and also Llanelli @1.65 h.t. which is very tempting.
Bangor v Rhyl
Quote:
BANGOR City boss Nev Powell will tell his players they have everything to play for in tonight’s clash with Rhyl at Farrar Road.
As well as looking to finish a respectable fourth in the Welsh Premier, Powell is also considering his team selection for next month’s Welsh Cup final with Llanelli.
Powell said: “Three points from our last two games will probably clinch it, but we want to do it straight away and not hold back until we play Neath on Saturday.
“Our season is far from over, because the players have the Welsh Cup final against Llanelli to come and are keen to make sure they figure in the line-up.”
The FAW have confirmed that the cup final, to be played on Sunday, May 4, will be at Newtown’s Latham Park, and will be televised live on S4C.
For tonight’s game City will again have a full squad having avoided any new injuries in Friday’s 1-0 win at Llangefni Town.
Powell said: “We have enjoyed good results in all of the local derbies this season, against Rhyl, Caernarfon, Porthmadog and Llangefni – and aim to maintain that record.”
Previous meetings between the two clubs this season have seen two wins for Rhyl, one for Bangor and two draws.
Rhyl manager John Hulse will have striker Lee Hunt back for the trip to Farrar Road after he missed Saturday’s 5-0 win over Port Talbot, writes Mike McEvoy.
Striker Hunt has completed his two-match suspension and seems sure to be reinstated as the third-placed Lilywhites look to resume where they left off on Saturday.
“It was a tremendous performance against a Port Talbot side that had been in fourth place not long ago, and even they must have admitted they couldn’t live with us on that display,” said Hulse.
“In fact it could have been a lot more, and when you consider we were without five players who would get into any side in the League it made it even more pleasing.”
Hulse will run the rule over fitness doubts Greg Stones, Craig Jones, George Horan and Jimmy Kelly.
“We still have two or three players carrying knocks that will need looking at so I have told everyone to report to the ground and we’ll take it from there,” added the Rhyl boss.
Although there is nothing but pride riding on the outcome, Rhyl will want to avenge the 2-1 home defeat in the previous League clash at Belle Vue in November. Hulse has promised his side will not be holding back.
He said: “It’s always nice to go to Farrar Road, a big ground and an enthusiastic crowd for a local derby. We will be preparing for it as best we can.
“At one time Bangor were pressing for third place but now we are 12 points clear of the nearest side below us so there’s no real pressure on either club.
“We both still have cup finals to look forward to so it should be another good entertaining game.”
|
I think "entertaining" means high scoring , and with both sides at full strength with players fighting for Cup final places ... note these clubs are in finals of different cups. Bangor in the Welsh Cup , Rhyl in the Premier Cup
Welshpool v Port Talbot
Quote:
WELSHPOOL bid to profit from back-to-back games on home soil to end their season on a high, writes John Bridgwater.
They entertain Port Talbot tonight before hosting Airbus UK Broughton on Saturday.
The Lilywhites slipped to ninth after Saturday’s controversial last-gasp 1-0 reverse at Haverfordwest, in which Pool thought they had cleared off the line but the linesman ruled otherwise.
“That sums up our season,” said manager Tomi Morgan. “We had enough chances to have wrapped up the game – we hit the woodwork three times – but went down to the sucker punch.”
Midfielder Chris Venables could be out tonight with an ankle problem, while Brett Jefferies is another injury worry.
|
my comment is ?
Connah's Quay v TNS
Quote:
CONNAH’S Quay Nomads manager Jim Hackett will check on defender Ben Alston before naming his side to face deposed champions The New Saints at the Deeside Stadium tonight.
Alston is in a fitness race after taking an ankle knock in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to new champions Llanelli.
“We are hoping he may still come through in time but we will have the full squad available and will make a decision once Ben’s situation is known,” said Hackett.
Hackett remains concerned at Nomads’ lack of goals this season, saying: “It’s been the story of our season, not putting away our chances.
“It comes back to bite you and that was the story again against Llanelli after doing more than enough to merit a draw.”
Nomads have a chance to atone for Saturday’s defeat by avenging their 3-1 away defeat on Saints’ artificial pitch.
“We were denied a goal that would have made it 3-2 and I was sent to the stand so it wasn’t our day,” he said. “They are the best footballing side in the league but on our pitch I’m hoping we can take them close, or better.”
Nomads knocked TNS out of the Welsh Cup in a dramatic penalty shoot-out in October when keeper Paul Pritchard pulled off three saves.
TNS will be anxious to finish their campaign with a flourish after hopes of a fourth successive Welsh Premier crown were finally dashed by Friday’s 2-0 loss at Airbus UK, writes John Bridgwater.
The Oswestry side still need one point to make sure of runners-up spot, a target they will be hoping to achieve before hosting Llanelli on Saturday.
Joint boss Mike Davies said: “The players tried their hardest but everything went against them last week – although you’ve got to give a lot of credit to Airbus.”
Davies admitted several members of the side will be playing for their futures as the club ponders the number of contracted players for next season.
|
I think Connah's Quay are a very poor side but they lost 0-1 to Llanelli on Saturday , Connah's Quay's pitch is notoriously bad and that will restrict TNS playing style. I still believe that TNS will win. I'm tempted by TNS h.t./f.t. @2.35 with expekt

Re: 15TH-16TH April Welsh Premier League
Derby at Caernarfon is crucial for Cefni
Daily Post c/p
LLANGEFNI Town striker Kevin Lloyd will be just a spectator in tonight’s vital clash against his old club Caernarfon Town as he nurses the dislocated shoulder which will keep him out for the rest of the season.
The Anglesey side need to win tonight’s game, and Saturday’s trip to Port Talbot, if they are to have any hope of staying in the Welsh Premier.
Caernarfon, meanwhile, are already safe after battling relegation for most of the season.
Tonight’s derby at The Oval, re-arranged after the original clash on January 23 was halted at half-time in contentious circumstances because of a downpour, has a 6.30pm kick-off.
The original plan had been to start at 7.45pm but Caernarfon continue to have a problem with their floodlights.
These rivals have clashed three times previously this season, in the league and league cup, with Caernarfon winning one and Llangefni two.
Caernarfon could be missing Phil Doran, Lee Bamber and Kieron Quinn because of work, while goalkeeper Michael Jago will replace Craig Vernon, who has had a hernia operation.
Llangefni will reinstate midfielder Ywain Gwynedd, who was unavailable for the Bangor City defeat on Friday, while teenagers Iwan Jones and Lee Jones will be on the bench.
i already put small stake on aw, and hope that motivation factor could be decisive one.
As written above, Llangefni already beats Caernarfon twice this season, so another win is not such a surprise.
Don't expect to find more news about host's line ups, and waiting for treath to say his final word about it.
Anyway, Llangefni has nothing to fight for but win, and according to that we must expect open and goal rich game at least.

hi broms and charly
"confident" i'm not , the odds in this game have flip flopped and Llangefni are now favourites with paddies.
read the post the charly put up in today's paper , looks like Caernarfon have a weakend side , this comment is from Porthmadog message board which has had some "banter" regarding this match
Quote:
|
it will be his strongest team [Caernarfon], but 8 players are missing, end of, that came from the manager himself on saturday, he told me in the club.
|
My money is on Llangefni , but i'm hoping for a Caernarfon win to give my side Port a chance to avoid relegation.
edit Ywain Gwynedd started his career at Port ,his dad is a senior member of Port's commitee , his little brother used to play the drum behind the goal last season , it gone quiet now...got to be the scorer today then
Caernarfon are Port nearest neighbours so there is quite a bit of local banter .
I'm going to tonight's match with my heart supporting Caernarfon and my pocket supporting Llangefni , so it looks like a draw then.
This season is the first time that i've had bets on matches between bottom clubs , usually I avoid them .
Back to broms question re "confident"
my answer: money on Llangefni
heart on Caernarfon
brain on the draw
confident no chance
and i'm not going to wish anyone any luck either
p.s. weather is dry and sunny here, so there will be plenty of light ...Caernarfon need not worry about using their floodlights due to an "early" k.o.
Port last game on Saturday at home to Rhyl will be another
edit Ywain Gwynedd started his career at Port ,his dad is a senior member of Port's commitee, ywain to score today then

Caernarfon 1-0 Llangefni
Not a good game , what did you expect from relegation strugglers
Caernarfon with one of their two shots on goal , Llangefni had a great chance in the first half and a goal dissallowed for offside . Second half was better ...well more exciting.
I spent the second half watching with Meilir the welsh language commentator , dave Taylor , Caersws manager was with us.
Now on to the weekend the battle at the bottom continues.
