2008-04-05 Sheff. Utd. - Leicester by: Kuki

Bookmakers in England disagree about this fixture. Bet365 top the market on the home win offering nice odds of 2,20 while others (Stan James, Skybet or Blue Square)are as short as 1,83. I think Bet365 are quite "wrong" here and I recommend to take advantage of such a price as long as it stands. Why? Sheffield United were relegated from the Premiership and their coach Robson never got them going in the Championship. They are playing a poor season, no doubt about that. Robson was finally sacked (too late) and Kevin Blackwell has taken over. He needed a bit of time but the Blades have found great form recently. Their run of 4 straight wins came to and last Saturday away to the other form side Preston North End. That defeat all but ended any outside chance of reaching the play-offs. Nevertheless I strongly fancy them to finish that disappoining year in style. Leicester City on the other hand won an important home tie against Scunthorpe last weekend but still are in danger of relegation. Already today coach Ian Holloway announced that his side will be down to the bare bones at Bramall Lane on Saturday. Definitely out are Stephen Clemence, Lee Hendie and Barry Hayles. Iain Hume, Jamie Clapham and Kelvin Etuhu are all receiving treatment for injuries and are doubtful. Leicester have a lot more to play for than the hosts but that is of minor importance in Great Britain. Small stakes are recommended on special bets here as well. 7 units for this one!

Pick: H, Odds: 2.20, Stake: 7, Bookmaker: Bet365

Tractor boys can do the business at Colchester also....like the price and Baggies proved that they ship goals, the Town look good.....

Re: 5th April Coca-Cola League Championship

Scunthorpe v Sheffield Wednesday

Now I saw Scunthorpe at Leicester City last week and wasn't overly impressed. Leicester aren't exactly a great side but we managed to win 1-0. It was almost a do-or-die situation for Scunthorpe but they didn't scrap as much as I thought they would. I thought the last 10 mins would be played in the Leicester penalty area but it didn't happen like that and City held on pretty comfortably. After the game Scunthorpe manager Nigel Atkins actually admitted that 'Some of our players aren't good enough to play this level'. Their fight is almost over.

Sheffield Wednesday, on the other hand, are scrapping like crazy to stay up. They're unbeaten in six, although they've drawn the last four. I really can't see them losing on Saturday, but I'm not sure they're going to win; a draw wouldn't be a bad result for them, all told.

A combination bet on a draw and a Wednesday win works out at about 1/2. Not a bargain but, as I said, it's difficult for me to see Wednesday losing.

Re: 5th April Coca-Cola League Championship

I heard that the nerves are frayed at Hillsborough , they aren't getting behind the team at all as they fear the drop too much and cant relax, away from home I think the manager will have better fortune , I would never advise an away in the CCC but Scunny are dire and thats a cracking price

I wouldn't bet against any team who aint safe yet though and I'm swerving the Blades as they can relax whereas although Leicester have injuries they are grinding out results with teamwork.

I like QPR back at home after 2 great away results , Preston are safe now IMO and training will be less intense and more end of seasony.

Re: 5th April Coca-Cola League Championship

Bristol City a bit big @ 2.93 with Betsafe you think?

Obviously a look at the form and tables would suggest they are, no? Eh? I know Southampton aren't the easiest to beat (but for the 5-0 at Hull) and I was reading Norwich dominated at Bristol City last week before being cruelly denied even a point in injury time but... what y'all think?

Hang about. Just reading about some injury concerns for City on BBC:
Quote:
Southampton midfielder Inigo Idiakez returns after a hamstring problem, while Jason Euell has also been passed fit after a knee injury. Loan signing Chris Lucketti is set to feature but defender Alex Ostlund is ruled out with a tight hamstring.

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has kept his injury problems under wraps but says two or three players have knocks. "We won't give any details publicly," Johnson said. "They are borderline and we will to see if they come through."

Talking from a Cardiff perspective, we have played Bristol City and Southampton recently. Cardiff won by 1 goal against both opponents. Bristol City fought hard all game. Southampton were not very competitive. One of the poorest sides at Ninian Park this season.

Many thanks, rhys. I feel a bit for Southampton but that's life. I'll be hoping they lose tomorrow.

Re: 5th April Coca-Cola League Championship

I've had a small flutter on Bristol City away at Southampton for the simple reason that everything I hear about the Saints is totally negative. I realise it's the most topsy-turvy league and the top teams (with the exception of Hull) keep throwing away points but Bristol City finally won last week after a 5-match run without a victory, and I hope this will settle them down.
