AN 85th-minute strike from substitute Andy Evans gives Aberystwyth Town the edge when the sides resume for the second leg of this Loosemores Cup semi-final at Stebonheath Park in a fortnight.

However, Craig Williams' away goal could still prove crucial following this hard fought first meeting last night.

Although there were few clearcut chances in the first period, the Black and Greens caused their visitors several anxious moments and deserved their 32nd minute lead.

Defensive hesitancy let in Geoff Kellaway down the right and his cross was headed in by Portugese Aberystwyth University student Tiago da Silva, who was making his first Aber start.

Llanelli deservedly levelled in the 59th minute when Steve Evans's shot struck a post a Craig Williams slipped home the rebound.

The visitors continued to enjoy greater possession but were unable to further breach a stubborn rearguard.

And after Luke Sherbon had almost stolen the game for Aber on the break, Andy Evans finally earned their slight advantage when he converted fellow substitute Stuart Roberts' left-wing cross.

AN 84th minute equaliser from ex-Rhyl player Michael Walsh ensured Bangor will hold a slight edge going into the return leg of this League Cup semi-final at Farrar Road in two weeks time.

City were pushing hard in the closing stages when Christian Seargeant picked out Walsh in the box with a slide rule pass and the former Chester City midfielder turned sharply before burying the ball into the bottom corner.

In an end-to-end first half Bangor's Paul Smith was the busier of the two keepers, saving well from Craig Jones and Lee Hunt.

Nine minutes after the break Rhyl took the lead when City only partially cleared a Mark Connolly free-kick and Hunt headed in his 19th goal of the season.

The visitors finished strongly and Walsh was only denied by the legs of Lilywhites keeper Lee Kendall before he squared a feisty derby which featured six yellow cards.

These clubs have historical rivalry between them , before this weekend's results I would have predicted a draw . I'm finding it difficult to comprehend Bangor's defeat on Saturday , i will await any team news but at the moment i'm siding towards Rhyl

SECURITY will be tight at Farrar Road on Tuesday night when Bangor City and Rhyl bid for a place in the final of the Loosemores League Cup.
With a history of trouble when the clubs have met in the past, fans have been advised to arrive early as police and stewards will carry out security checks.
A first-leg away goal from Michael Walsh could prove crucial with the sides deadlocked at 1-1, but visiting manager John Hulse is banking on the atmosphere lifting his side into the final.
"This is a big occasion for both clubs with so much at stake and we are going there relishing the opportunity to perform and keep our excellent run going," he told the Daily Post.
"We have quite a good record there in recent years but every game starts afresh and we know it's not going to be easy by any means."
Marc Lloyd Williams is prevented from returning to the ground where he has been so successful because he is cup-tied, but Hulse has Gareth Wilson, Craig Garside, ex-Citizen Paul O'Neill and Dave Cameron all available for selection.
But home boss Nev Powell has selection woes with five regulars missing. Mike Johnston, Chris Seargeant and Dave Swanick are all injured, Peter Hoy is suspended and Craig Hutchinson is unavailable.
Keiran Killackey, Karl Noon, Mel McGinness and Ben Ogilvey could all figure at some stage and Powell says: "Some of these lads have made first team appearances over the last week and did well, and this Rhyl game will provide them with a big stage to really show what they can do."
Rhyl won 1-0 at Bangor in the group stages of the competition to record their ninth consecutive victory over the Citizens.
Since then, under new manager Powell, the Blues have started to set the record straight, winning 2-1 in the league at Belle Vue and drawing twice in the League Cup on their opponent's ground

ABERYSTWYTH and Llanelli bid for a place in the final of the Loosemores League Cup and a clash with Rhyl when they meet in the semi-final second leg at Stebonheath Park on Wednesday night.
Holding a slender 2-1 advantage from the first meeting two weeks ago, the Seasiders are hoping to complete the task against the full-timers who are still in with a chance of a four-timer in the Welsh Premier and three cup competitions.
"Tonight's a massive game as the club have not beenn in a cup final for many a year, but we've given ourselves a great chance," says manager Brian Coyne, who missed Friday's 4-2 home defeat to Port Talbot.
"So we know we need to work hard like we did in the first leg and look to keep a clean sheet.
"If we do that, then we're through although we'll be going there with the intention of scoring," he added.
Coyne may be able to call on the services of Bari Morgan, who missed Friday's setback with a groin injury, as his captain's latest suspension does not kick-in until the weekend.
