Re: Sat 19th Jan Coca-Cola League Championship

I can't believe that the cc leagues havent hit the 'split' yet. These teams meeting for the first time this season. I suppose it must be about half way by now. Sheff Utd to win the Sheffield derby? Blackpool to compound Ipwich's poor away form? Coventry to win?

Looks like some tight games there unless your in the know.

Re: Sat 19th Jan Coca-Cola League Championship

Norwich for me this weekend , unless theirs a Sars outbreak I cant see them losing at home to Leicester.
The Canaries have scored in all their last 11 games of which they lost just 1 , ok they crashed out of the cup to Bury which may explain the price.
leicester are strong at home as you would expect from their manager who's enthusiasm seems to inspire the crowds, away they are drawey.

2-1 Canaries I rekon
Norwich 2.10 7/10

Re: Sat 19th Jan Coca-Cola League Championship

It is indeed cinny and I wouldn't touch a derby in the division with a preverbial.
No other bets for me now I think , barring some team news catastrophe's , hmm maybe QPR at home but the price isn't speacial

Re: Sat 19th Jan Coca-Cola League Championship

Some big out's for Leicester , Clemence is very doubtfull and their centre half Kisnorbo is suspended and in come Ngoty.
Norwich hate their board but love Roeder, they see no investment coming and a load of loan signings holding them together. Roeder's tryin to bring someone in for the weekend , hmm smaller stakes may be best here

Sheffield Wednesday v Sheffield United, Sky Sports 1, Saturday 12:45pm

There is certainly no love lost between these two bitter Yorkshire rivals, in fact to say they can't stand each other would be an understatement.

In one of the most fiercely contested local derbies in the country, it will be the blue and white stripes of Wednesday versus the red and white stripes of United, and it is Sheffield Wednesday at 7/4 who make plenty of appeal in this one.

Having made a storming late run for the play-offs last season, this year has been a huge disappointment for Brian Laws and his Wednesday men, and sitting in 21st place, just outside of the drop zone, the need for points could not be more obvious.

Having won five out of 12 at home this season (no draws in the process), it's fair to say that Hillsborough has far from been a fortress this year, but the Blades have themselves been far from world beaters either home or away and 7/4 on the hosts to claim win number six looks a little too long.

Wednesday have lost just one of their last three games, including winning a huge relegation six pointer against Preston two weeks ago and then following that up with a 2-2 draw at Premier League Derby in the FA Cup.

Their main problem at the moment seems to be scoring goals, and they have really struggled for consistency in this area, but again when looking at their local opponents it's not as if the Owls are facing a side that comfortably break down teams, and one goal might settle this tense encounter.

For plenty of Blades fans winning at present is greeted with only a lukewarm smile as it means a further stay of execution for Bryan Robson, who without any doubt has lost the support of the majority of hardcore fans.

These fans of course will be right behind their team when they take to battle against the Owls, but looking at the Blades' season to date, the results and, more so the performances, simply have not been good enough.

Robson will point to the fact that his team are unbeaten in three and only now is he starting to look at bringing in his own players, but the squad he inherited should be sitting way higher than 13th and with just 31 goals in 27 games, it's been a season of serious hair pulling for plenty of frustrated followers.

With Wednesday themselves having only bagged 28 goals, this game looks nailed on for under 2.5 goals, but with the home crowd on their side and United a team who should not be feared, the Owls are taken to edge this one and 7/4 looks well worth taking a punt on.

Watford v Charlton, Sky Sports 1, Saturday 17:20pm

This is a huge promotion clash in the Championship, and Charlton are taken to continue Watford's current miserable run at Vicarage Road.

The Addicks are four points and two places below Watford heading into this one and towards the end of last year caught a case of draw-itis, winning just two of their seven games in December.

In midweek they were bundled out of the FA Cup by West Brom on penalties, but in both cup games against the Baggies the Addicks were the better side and going forward they look to have plenty of options at present, and some of these are taken to hurt the Hornets on Saturday.

Away from home Charlton have won six of their 13 matches this season and with 14 conceded have the second best defensive record in the division, while Watford on the other hand have tasted five defeats in front of their own fans - the worst record of any side inside the top 10.

The bitter blow for Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd this week was the loss of his star striker Marlon King to Fulham for £5million, and while that is a great price his departure will seriously weaken the Hornets from an attacking viewpoint.

Darius Henderson has had another good season, but Nathan Ellington looks a shadow of the player he was at Wigan, and with their last home win in the league coming on October 20th against Hull, to lose your star man at this time could prove to be a hammer blow.

In their last six home games Watford have conceded 13 goals which suggests something is seriously wrong at the back for Boothroyd's men and with just three wins from their last 10 games, perhaps it will be Watford who fall by the wayside as the race for the Premier League hots up.

Charlton on the other hand look a side who are in it for the long haul and with Alan Pardew confident of his side being able to last the distance and with his strikers well aware he is looking to strengthen in this area, they are all playing for their places. With that in mind the Addicks look good value at 12/5 to cap a miserable week for Boothroyd and his men.

Like Roeder and think he's doing a super job at the minute and Norwich look like they can get a win tomorrow. Like Charlton too but couldnt have much faith in them, the price represents good value tho.

Re: Sat 19th Jan Coca-Cola League Championship

yeah I like Charlton too cinny , let's face it it wouldn't be a suprise if they won at Watford with their horrible home record , not won at home since October!.

I see Charlton have snapped up Gray from Burnley and with some key out's for Burnley you could take them on away to Coventry.
Quote:
Coventry captain Michael Doyle is available after suspension while fellow midfielder Jay Tabb is also set to return after recovering from illness.

Chris Birchall is a doubt with a hamstring strain but Stephen Hughes and Andy Marshall are definitely out.

Burnley striker Robbie Blake is pushing for a place in the starting line-up after coming off the bench to score the winner against Plymouth.

Kyle Lafferty is suspended and Clarke Carlisle (hamstring) is doubtful.
Captain back , they beat Burnley last 2 times.2.1 for a home team aint bad
Coventry 2.1 6/10

Quote:
Norwich v Leicester – Leicester, 1pt 5-2
Ian Holloway isquickly building something at Leicester and they are overpriced at 5-2 to beat Norwich at Carrow Road. Bringing in experienced forwards such as Steve Howard and Barry Hayles should turn out to be shrewd captures as will Matt Oakley, who was arguably Derby's best player this season. Leicester are just below Norwich in the Championship standings, but come the end of the season those positions could quite easily be reversed and at the prices the visitors are worth a bet.

Plymouth v Southampton – Southampton +0.25 Asian handicap, 1pt 1.9
Holloway looked to have jumped from a sinking ship at Plymouth and regressing Argyle have to be taken on when Southampton visit Home Park. As well as losing Holloway, they have been hit hard by departures in the transfer window. Returning manager Paul Sturrock has sold key forwards Hayles and Sylvain Ebanks-Blake as well as hugely talented youngster Dan Gosling to Everton for around £3m. Argyle were dreadful when losing 1-0 at Burnley last timeout and any chance of going up has surely been lost in the 2008 sales.
