That must be a new criteria if you want to take control at SJP - must be implicated in BBC's bung scandal.....

Re: Next Newcastle Manager
Quote:
2200: Harry Redknapp is now trading at just 8/11 with Sky Bet to take over as new Newcastle boss.
Alan Shearer, the initial odds-on favourite, was earlier shunted out to 9/1 at Ladbrokes after the BBC reported tonight that sources close to Shearer - who works for the corporation as a pundit - were saying he was extremely unlikely to succeed Allardyce at Newcastle.
Further reports on Sky Sports News that the club are looking for an "experienced" manager would also seem to deal a bitter blow to Shearer backers.
2040: Harry Redknapp has now gone odds-on for the first time in the next Newcastle manager betting.
The Portsmouth boss has been all the rage at Paddy Power who have cut him to 5/6 after he was backed down at all rates from 5/2.
Alan Shearer is 11/4 second favourite while Mark Hughes is third best at 15/2.
2000: Harry Redknapp is now 9/4 favourite to become Newcastle manager with William Hill after an early gamble on the Portmsouth boss slashed his odds from 20/1.
Alan Shearer is out to 5/2 second favourite with Hills, who have Martin Jol at 4/1, with Mark Hughes 9/1 and Kevin Keegan backed from 25/1 to 16/1.
Steve McClaren and Gerrard Houllier are 14/1 with Paul Ince at 16/1.
1925: In a frenzied hour of betting, which has already seen over £30,000 matched on the market, Harry Redknapp is the new 3/1 favourite on Betfair to be the next Newcastle manager.
He has been backed from 11/1 to 3/1, while Alan Shearer has drifted from 6/4 to 4/1.
Mark Hughes is another springer in the market from 25/1 to 7/1 third favourite.
1905: A dramatic change in Sky Bet's next Newcastle manager betting.
Sky Sports have just reported that Alan Shearer has not been approached, and Sky Bet have responded by pushing his odds out to 3/1 from 4/6.
And with news also emerging that the Magpies aren't looking for a foreign manager, Sky Bet have promoted Harry Redknapp to clear 6/4 favourite.
However, to add to the confusion, Dutchman Martin Jol has also been slashed to 3/1 joint second favourite alongside Shearer!
There's also fun and games at bet365 who pushed Redknapp out to 9/1 before suddenly slashing him to 2/1.
And they've also just cut Mark Hughes to 7/2 from 25s.
1855: Following Sam Allardyce's departure from Newcastle by "mutual agreement", Alan Shearer is the early 11/4 favourite on Betfair to replace him.
But perhaps not for long.
In the first 10 minutes for which the market was active Shearer drifted from 6/4 to 11/4 as money arrived for 9/2 Harry Redknapp (from 11/1) and 11/2 Martin Jol.
Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin said: "All aboard once again on the Toon managerial betting merrygo-round.
"It is clearly too early on the betting front to be drawing firm conclusions, but at this stage I certainly don't see any real punter confidence in Alan Shearer taking the job – if indeed he is offered it."
To be next Newcastle manager – Betfair bet: 11/4 Shearer, 9/2 Redknapp, 11/2 Jol, 12/1 Venables, 14/1 Mourinho, Houllier, 16/1 Klinsmann, 21/1 McClaren.
1805: Sam Allardyce's sudden but not unexpected departure from the hottest of managerial hotseats has once again opened up the betting for one of the biggest jobs in football.
Paddy Power have Gallowgate legend Alan Shearer the hot odds-on favourite at 4/7 to finally take the reins at Newcastle whilst former Spurs manager Martin Jol follows at 7/1. Jose Mourinho is one of the leading managers currently out of a job and is 16/1 whilst Kevin Keegan is 22/1 for a return.
Former England manager Steve McClaren is a 28/1 outsider with arch-rival Sunderland’s manager Roy Keane an even longer shot at 50/1. Professional Geordies Ant & Dec are 500/1.
Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: "We’ve probably had a next manager betting market on Newcastle more often than any other football club, such is the revolving door at St James’ Park.
"You can be sure it will once again be a very active market over the next few days as managers show their mettle or otherwise for the most poisoned of chalices in football management."
Next Newcastle Manager: 4/7 Shearer, 7/1 Jol, 8/1 Venables, 11/1 Klinsmann, 16/1 Mourinho, 16/1 Houllier, 20/1 Lippi, 22/1 Keegan, 25/1 Van Basten, 28/1 Trappatoni, 28/1 McClaren, 33/1 Benitez, 33/1 J Collins, 40/1 Hoddle, 50/1 Keane, 50/1 Davies, 500/1 Ant & Dec.
1750: Following the breaking news that Sam Allardyce has parted company with Newcastle United, Sky Bet have opened a book on his successor and have installed local legend Alan Shearer as short priced favourite at 4/6.
Harry Redknapp is 4/1 second favourite, with former Liverpool and Lyon boss, Gérard Houllier, and ex-Spurs manager, Martin Jol, both quoted at 8/1.
Sky Bet’s PR Director, Dale Tempest, said: "The job is Shearer’s- it’s just a question of whether he wants it or not."
Allardyce lasted just 24 games in the Newcastle hotseat, winning eight, losing 10 and drawing the other six.
He's the sixth Magpies manager to leave the post since Kevin Keegan departed in January 1997

Re: Next Newcastle Manager
You shouldn't get involved on next manager markets when Harry Redknapp is involved, but I'm not having him being 1.50-1.60 on Betfair as he is now. I've layed a little bit purely for the reason that he's never going to want to move that far north. I believe he loves living on the south coast, and you can see this by looking at all of the clubs that he has managed.
Unless Newcastle offer him a massive contract with the promise of massive funds to spend on new players, can't see Redknapp taking it. He left Portsmouth once before and regretted it, and after seeing what happened to Sam, I don't see why Harry would want to take the risk. He has a wealthy chairman at Portsmouth and at the moment a much better team than Newcastle.
You'd probably do well laying all of the early favourites for managerial jobs - like John Collins with Fulham, Mourinho with England and one or two others. There's always a chance with something like this that some people know more than you, but for me Redknapp is never an odds-on shot for this job.
Hopefully he'll rule himself out tomorrow

Apparently, much like 'Arrys odds yesterday after the sacking, Keegans have tumbled from about 40/1 to 12s or so today
Think the bookies are just stirring this shit up themselves tbh.

Fancied some of that as well, but think laying 'Arry at 1.6ish was a better shot. Would be a good appointment imo.

Re: Next Newcastle Manager
I have had a flutter on Van Gaal. He's foreign, which is a winner because foreign managers are better than English ones. I mean, they even sound better, they have better names and well groomed hair. You'd never see Van Gaal chewing open mouthed on the touchline like Big Sam was famed for. He chews with manners and keeps his mouth shut.
Aye, Louis Van Gaal is the one for me.
It wont be an English manager - Redknapp doesnt need the hassle. What is he? 60-ish now? Set up for life, why does he want the stress of moving to Newcastle, only to be booed, harrassed and sacked after 6 months. Sod that for a game of soldiers.
Mourinho will be waiting for a big job - I'm talking about Real, Barca, Milan, Inter, Juve etc - Newcastle isnt on the same planet as them.
The available British candidates (O'Leary, Hoddle, Venables, Graham et al) are all passed it. Why get rid of one British manager, for another one that hasnt had a job in 4 years because they're unemployable....
An up and coming manager, like Boothroyd, Coppell or Simon Grayson would never be enough to satisfy the fans up here in Toon Town. Again, 6 months and they'd be out on their arse.
So that just leaves your foreign megastars - Klinsmann, Van Gaal, Hiddink, Van Basten etc - who out of those would see Newcastle as a step up the career ladder? Klinsmann has too much going for him to risk losing it all by joining the Mags, Hiddink would probably get whacked by the KGB if he left Comrade Abramovich's men in the lurch and Van Basten hasnt got as good a club record as Van Gaal.
He's the man for meeeeeeeee
