Sheff Utd to continue their good vein of form? Good win on saturday away from home and last wednesday too winning at charlton.

Southampton as well to beat a Sheff Wednesday outfit beat by a poor Colchester side on saturday?

Saints Injury News

SAINTSFC.CO.UK: / News / Archive / Injury news

Quote:
Saints have suffered yet another defensive injury blow ahead of tomorrow's home game against Sheffield Wednesday.Phil Ifil picked up a painful ankle injury in Saturday's 2-1 win over Leicester and looks likely to be sidelined for around a fortnight. At the time he thought it was a kick but he has since learned it was a twist and he now needs a scan to assess the damage. The talented full-back will definitely miss the clash against the Owls and almost certainly Saturday's visit of Hull - tickets for both are on general sale, book online. That makes Ifil the seventh defender ruled out for tomorrow while there is still a question mark over Jhon Viafara who has recently deputised in the centre of defence. He missed Saturday's game with a neck and back problem but has trained today and hopes to figure tomorrow if there is no reaction.Definitely out of the back line are long-term casualties Claus Lundekvam and Chris Makin plus Alexander Ostlund, Darren Powell and Wayne Thomas.Ostlund and Powell hope to be back in training by the end of the week but are unlikely to be match-fit for Saturday.Thomas is recovering from an injection in his Achilles and has an outside chance for the game against Hull depending on how he reacts.
And Saints have a doubt over Nathan Dyer who came off at Leicester following a kick on the shin and is rated only 50-50.He will have a fitness test tomorrow but Inigo Idiakez will be at least another fortnight.
Manager George Burley said: "Inigo has had a scan which shows a tear in the Achilles and he will be out for another couple of weeks."We are hoping Alex, Darren and Wayne will be back in the next week or so but Phil Ifil took a whack on an ankle and is out for a couple of weeks."Jhon trained today and we are hoping he will be OK for tomorrow. He had a back problem last week but trained on Thursday and then developed a stiff neck."In all, we had 12 players missing training today which is a whole team. That is why it is important everyone does their job and sticks together."We are again missing a few tomorrow so it will again be a case of sticking together, working hard and defending for our lives."The squad is a bit depleted with a number of experienced players out but those who have come in have done well and I am sure they will do again."

Anyone else agree that Burnley at home evens is tempting, also Plymouth at struggling Norwich, Roeder doesnt seem to have changed their fortunes yet, hopefully he wont start tonight.

Re: Coca-Cola League Championship 3-4th Dec

QPR v Crystal Palace
Four games ago these two fought out a 1-1 draw at Loftus Road. But since then their fortunes have been very different. QPR, sitting just one point above the bottom team, drew with Sheff Weds in the next game and followed that with two defeats, to Stoke and Blackpool. Palace on the other hand, have pulled clear of the relegation zone, with wins over Colchesteraway, Preston at home, and then a good draw against high-flying West Brom. They have now gone six games without defeat. Neil Warnock has made his team very hard to beat since his arrival and has been helped by an empty physio room. His only doubts for tonight are Mark Kennedy and Paul Dickov, but Matt Lawrence will be missed through suspension after getting five yellows. Danny Butterfield has recently recovered from injury and will replace Lawrence in midfiels alongside Tom Soares, who has been brilliant in the last few games. Clinton Morrison should play, despite having a virus at the weekend, and will hope to emulate his display in the home fixture where he scored a late equaliser to save Palaces blushes. That draw ended a six game winless run by Palace dating from Warnocks arrival and he has finally got the team playing his way, and now that they have turned the corner I am confident they can keep moving up the table. I am happy to lay the home team here, even though they are favourites.

Re: Coca-Cola League Championship 3-4th Dec

Hull+05 @ 1.61

After three consecutive wins, Hull marked two away draws against good teams (Bristol City 0:0 and Cardiff 2:2) so the manager Phil Brown can be satisfied with the efficiency of his Tigers. They are undefeated five matches in a row and they are firmly in the upper part of the standings with ambitions for play-offs.
Hull midfielder Bryan Hughes could make his return from injury.
The Tigers have no new injury problems, but Henrik Pedersen and Nick Barmby remain on the long-term injury list.

Re: Coca-Cola League Championship 3-4th Dec

Plymouth+05 @ 1.55

Plymouth convincingly beat Scunthorpe 3:0. The man of the match was Peter Halmosi, assistant of all goals that were scored in the second half, and Sylvian Ebanks-Blake scored his eighth goal. Norwich desperately need a victory and such play suits Plymouth. There will surely be many goals scored on both sides.
Nadjim Abdou is set to start for Plymouth as on-loan Manchester United winger Lee Martin has suffered a recurrence of a hamstring strain.
Central defender Krisztian Timar should keep his place in the back four.

Re: Coca-Cola League Championship 3-4th Dec

Bookies have gone bonkers!

There are some stonking bets to be had, this evening. By our calculations the markets seem to have mis-priced the whole of the English 2nd division.
Here are additional picks which will not be written up in detail but certainly we are on them, and suggest you have a look!

Morecome+05 @ 1.61
Bury @ 1.99
Mk Dons @ 1.92
Darlington+05 @ 1.43
Peterborough @ 2.12
Hereford+05 @ 1.6

The news on the Saints has put me off them, seems like far too many injury casualties!

Re: Coca-Cola League Championship 3-4th Dec

Burnley v Leicester

Burnely have made a great start to life under the stewardship of Owen Coyle, having picked up wins away to promotion candidates Watford and Charlton in their last two games. Coyle has kept the same team from the game against Charlton.
Burnley: Kiraly, Alexander, Carlisle, Unsworth, Harley, Elliott, McCann, Mahon, Lafferty, Blake, Gray.
Subs: Jensen, J O’Connor, Gudjonsson, Akinbiyi, Jones
Leicester are a tough team to break down away from home, with just their one loss in eight away games so far, but injuries continue to take their toll on the Foxes. Although they have no further injuries from the weekend, they still have a raft of first team players out. Their weekend game was a home loss to Southampton, who have been having major injury problems of their own.
Leicester: Fulop, Kisnorbo, McAuley, Clemence, Hume, Cort, Sheehan, Stearman, Mattock, Maybury, Kenton.
Subs: Henderson, N’Gotty, Newton, King, Chambers.
Burnley's confident start under Owen Coyle isn’t a great suprise as Coyle is a manager who garnered a great reputation north of the border. With Leicesters' continued injury concerns I feel Burnley can record their third straight victory tonight.

Burnley v Leicester @ 2.190 (Pinnacle) 5/10
