End Of Season Play-Off Betting Memories

I always seem to remember my betting around this time of year as the play off's used to always give me cause to remember them and also the pressures of summer coming and me trying to fund various things in my time.

I think Swindon were involved on one of the first old div 2 finals. 11/10 i think they were. Nah maybe more. i only had the local papers at my desposal back then and the back of my coupon etc but i had a fairly heafty punt on them non the less. 2 nothing down after 10 minutes they were :shakehead

they ended up getting 2 late ones to force extra time and then went up (and disallowed i presume) on penalties. I didnt care though.

Can anyone confirm any of this as being true? :unure? I might just have made it all up. Might have been Bolton they were playing. Coyle or Coyne at Swindon

anyone else care to share a good or bad play-off memory?

i think it was against Gillingham around the 1987 season, a couple of years before i started/was old enough to start supporting the town. i found this,

In the first leg of the final, a single goal from David Smith nine minutes from time gave Gillingham victory, in a game in which Swindon were generally on top. The second leg was played at the County Ground, and Swindon controlled throughout. Despite this, Gillingham took the lead in the 17th minute with a 20 yard volley from Karl Elsey, with their only attack of the first half - giving them a 2-0 aggregate lead.

Peter Coyne gave the fans hope with a goal with half an hour to go, then, with just 12 minutes left, Charlie Henry put the Town 2-1 up on the night, and level on aggregate. Despite the away goals rule being in force in the semi-finals, in wasn't in place for the final, so the game went to a replay.
Ten thousand Town fans travelled to Selhurst Park for the game. They weren't disappointed. Steve White gave Swindon the lead after just two minutes, after a long ball from Phil King was flicked on by Charlie Henry. Swindon remained on top for the rest of the first half, but despite creating many chances, they failed to add to their lead.
After the break, it was Gillingham's turn to take the initiative, forcing Fraser Digby to make some great saves. Then, in the 66th minute and against the run of play, Steve White grabbed his second goal of the night - running the ball into the penalty area, and beating the 'keeper with a low drive.

Still Gillingham pressed on, forcing Charlie Henry to revert to a defensive role, but they failed to breach the Town's defence. The Town fans, who had out sang their Gillingham counterparts all evening, stayed to celebrate after the match.

Re: End Of Season Play-Off Betting Memories

after losing 0-1 at home to brighton in the league 1 semi-finals about 3 years ago, i thought after seeing us dominate, why not have a decent bet on us to reach the final @ good odds,

in the return game at the withdean, Super Sam Parkin, top-goal scorer grabbed a leveller about ten minutes from time, goes to extra time and Fallon puts us 0-2 up on the night(1-2 agg) we are within seconds of going to cardiff, then i kid you not about the 122nd minute Virgo scores from a corner(Mooney why didn't you pick him up ), then we lose on penalties, and i lose a sizeable bet and the chance of seeing my team in a playoff final against local rivals brizzle city.

to make things worse we got absolutely soaked in their shit.hole of a ground.

just glad we got automatic promotion this year!

I was so glad you wasnt Sammy. Her name was Samantha (still is i suppose) and she'd got wind of our Eurovision competition Sammy. Her sister is a guns and roses fan (gnrforever i thought ) and her current boyfriend is called James (james in here)

I don't think i'm mad though

Anyhow Sammy i must leave you. Bloody hell thats what i said to her Sammy. Once you pack in a woman you can never get the love back as they need to be adored and i dont do adoration. For all my big man talk here i'm actually quite loving but i can turn love into a list of statistics or number ordered list
