Re: Coca-Cola League One Playoffs 18-19th May

last sept game
Quote:
Yeovil 0-1 Nottm Forest
Grant Holt scored his fifth goal of the season in the 88th minute to down Yeovil and keep Nottingham Forest at the top of League One.

Earlier Holt and Jack Lester both brought excellent saves from Yeovil goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall, but the keeper had no chance when Holt met a right-wing corner from Nicky Southall to score from 12 yards with a half-volley.

Yeovil, unbeaten at home previously, had worked hard for a point that they looked destined to get and had the clearest chance after 50 minutes.

Recent signing Marcus Stewart, on loan from Bristol City, put Wayne Gray clear but with the goal at his mercy Gray shot straight at the legs of goalkeeper Paul Smith.

Stewart used all his experience to engineer a Yeovil goal but the final touch was missing.
doesnt really tell me much. looks like tight games betwee the 2 tho so far. Unders could be a consideration for me at the mo.

Quote:
Nottm Forest 1-0 Yeovil
Grant Holt's fourth goal in five games proved enough to put Nottingham Forest back on top of League One with a 1-0 win over Yeovil.

Oldham's late equaliser at Scunthorpe played its part in the equation but Forest boss Colin Calderwood will have been delighted that his side were able to follow up their FA Cup victory over Charlton with an important League win.

There was little to choose between the sides for long periods with a swirling wind making life extremely difficult to impose any control on the game.

And the conditions played a part in the decisive goal with Yeovil keeper Steve Mildenhall flapping at a free-kick from Julian Bennett and the ball dropping invitingly for Holt to lash home his 14th goal of the season.

Leon Best might have done better with a header from Arron Davies` cross and substitute Ishmael Welsh might have scored if he had shown better control eight yards out.

But although Forest were denied clear cut openings of their own, they defended well to deny Yeovil any more openings as the visitors suffered defeat for the first time in seven games.

preview for that first game
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/preview?id=201193&cc=5739

and now lets have a read of the first leg...

Quote:
Yeovil 0-2 Nottm Forest
Nottingham Forest manager Colin Calderwood believes his side's play-off semi-final hopes are in their own hands after they came away from the first leg at Huish Park with a 2-0 lead.

Penalties in either half, from Kris Commons and James Perch respectively, handed Forest a firm advantage for the second leg at the City Ground next Friday.

Commons scored in the 23rd minute after Glovers' stand-in captain Nathan Jones felled Perch, who then stepped up in the 90th minute to punish Terrell Forbes' rash challenge on Jack Lester.

'It's a nice lead and how comfortable it becomes depends on us and how we play next week,' said Calderwood.

'We know we're going to be tested again next Friday. Congratulations to my boys. I thought they were excellent.

'The players gave everything and they showed their ability.'

Yeovil can count themselves unlucky to be two goals down after they laid siege to Forest's penalty area after the break.

Goalkeeper Paul Smith was in fine form for the visitors, who also enjoyed a large slice of luck when Marcus Stewart's close-range header hit the post.

'We were penned back for the second half. We had a second-half lead and we looked after that. We have a two-goal advantage now and that is a fact,' added Calderwood.

And the Forest manager will not let his players sit on their lead in the return leg when Yeovil have no choice but to attack to keep their promotion dream alive.

'We've got to try to score. If we can get an advantage it makes it really hard for Yeovil,' added Calderwood.

'Our focus has got to be on Yeovil for 90 minutes and to win the game.'

Yeovil boss Russell Slade admitted both penalty decisions were correct but still took issue with referee Nigel Miller.

'They were penalties,' he told Sky Sports 1.

'I know that man in the middle. He'll definitely give them against me. The second one was stonewall.'

Slade refused to criticise his side's performance, adding: 'We didn't do an awful lot wrong.

'We played some lovely football, particularly in the second period.'

Bah that should have been good news especially with Forest needing 2 penalties to score. Was Holt playing? lemme see..aye he was You can just see Yeovil having nothing to lose now and as mentioned they could play attacking football. This serioulsy puts my under 2.5 goals bet in doubt even before i see the odds. under 2.5 is about 8/11 and i don't know if i can chance these teams playing the same game as previous this season. Evens maybe odds on i can't. I'm sure someone somewhere will be considering this bet though

Match Odds-
Notts Forest - shades of odds against on Betfair
Yeovil - 10/3 with a few

also-
Yeovil 10/1 bluesq and ladbrokes to qualify (7/1 in places)

Re: Coca-Cola League One Playoffs 18-19th May

Well I'm not a CC1 league fan but watched the Oldham v Blackpool first leg game and Blackpool were by far the better side footballing wise on a what was like a winters day at Boundary Park with the pissing down rain, if they could beat them on a day like that in Oldham then i don't give the latics much chance.

I can't see those conditions happening again tomorrow but can see Blackpool playing a lot better in decent circumstances, they held the ball a lot better than Oldham and looked quite nifty when passing, Blackpools left winger also looked a decent player and more than capable of causing problems.

I don't know much about these two teams but going off the first leg I'd expect Blackpool to give Oldham a bit of a good hiding on home turf.

Re: Coca-Cola League One Playoffs 18-19th May

Blackpool have been in great form winning 8 on the bounce i think Slick, but i do worry that with them having the lead, a 0-0 would do them fine.

Had a quick look at betfair, couple of interesting prices:

Forest NOT to get promoted - 2.22

Blackpool to get promoted - 2.32

It unlikely either team will fail to get to the final IMO and the 2.32 on Blackpool looks quite nice to me and is bound to come in if they get to the final.

THM

I've had a wee punt on Forest tonight and from what i've saw (only saw last 15 mins) it's not looking great. they've been pish poor but cant comment bout first 35 but are still 1-0 down

only thing commentator had to say was "i've never saw the ball being kicked over the Brian Clough stand before" and thats been about the highlight

Sounds like a good game Keggers and I wonder what odds we'd get for Pearce being in charge there next yr if they fail to qualify.
