Inside Edge magazine

Don't know if anyone is still buying this? Anyway, I took out a years subscription at the start of the year, it was only £5 for 12 issues so I can't complain a lot. However.....

Up until about June time it was a decent read, there was always something of interest in it and it also had a decent poker section. The split was about 75% sports/betting related to 25% poker. Then they decided to do a complete turnaround. Poker was the main focus of the magazine with sports relegated to about 25% at the back. I didn't subscribe to a poker magazine (yes, it was only £5 but...) but IE insisted they would still be covering sports betting as they always did etc, just more focus/coverage of poker.

I then get this months issue with a covering letter inside - as of the start of next year they are ditching sports betting completely and just covering poker. They are now going to be a poker only magazine. Its good timing for me as its just the same time as my subscription runs out, which I won't be renewing.

Overall, I feel they are making a mistake (although I have a feelign their sales numbers probably don't agree with me) as there are already a few poker magazines on the go. There isn't any quality, that I know off, sports betting magazines out there so surely one such issue would have a captive market?

Its a shame but I also had to laugh as their byline at the top of the mag is "Serious about Poker, Serious about Sports betting".....aye, only for another month or so!

Re: Inside Edge magazine

Yeah, pathetic.

If I wanted a poker magazine I would have subscribed to a fucking poker magazine

The last 4 issues have gone straight in the bin.

I know a fair few on here like poker but how many articles and interviews can you read without going over the same old stuff?

Re: Inside Edge magazine

You could say the same about anything really, how many articles on anything can you read before alot of the same stuff is covered ? Poker is a hugle rich and deep game with far far more to learn than most people seem to realise.

Having said that I think it's stupid to turn the magazine all into poker. There's already poker magazines out there. As you say what decent sports betting magazines are out there ? None as far as I know anyway. They should still have a section on sports betting and gambling in general be it casino, sports betting, spread betting, puggies or whatever.

Re: Inside Edge magazine

Agree with everything said so far. I bought it from day one and took out a subscription, but I ditched it earlier this year after it became poker dominated. I guess it's all to do with money, half the magazine was always ads for poker sites. I'm sure the same publisher already has a dedicated poker title so it seems a bit daft to be going into direct competition with itself. Bit of a shame really as there is no other sports betting magazine available.

Re: Inside Edge magazine

Bonehead - yep, think the Poker Player magazine is also from same publishers.

I suppose in one way they are a bit curtailed tipping wise as they are obviously having to pick selections a couple of months in front of the event. However their analysis and trends were well worth reading. You probably know the name of the bloke who was doing the racing trends Seen but he certainly had a few decent selections including last years Welsh National winner at 25/1 advised. Their Cheltenham preview/trends were excellent as well, shortlisted a few winners.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed reading the poker section, especially when it was about 25% of the mag at the back. It had enough there to keep novices like me interested.

However I thought the original make up of the mag, as Alien says "sports betting and gambling in general be it casino, sports betting, spread betting" as well as stuff like the psyhcological side was excellent and usually had me reading it from cover to cover. Like Seen said though, the last couple of issues I have received have sat unread and will probably be binned.

Re: Inside Edge magazine

I agree with the above as well. As soon as this months came it was a case of ring up the subs dept. for a refund on the remaining issues.

Re: Inside Edge magazine

I really don't know why they decided to do this as even poker players don't like the idea. I buy Poker player so don't see the point in buying Inside Edge, too much of the same thing, so who exactly IS buying their mag?

Re: Inside Edge magazine

Dan Dan, it was just a very crafty marketing plan in my opinion. Loads of sports bettors were given knock down subscription deals, which would hardly have covered printing costs. Then when the circulation was right up with readers locked into 12/24 month deals they change it to a poker mag and are able to show poker adveritsers large number of readers and thus demand top dollar rates. So in answer to your question i dont think anybody is buying it anymore.

When you click into the Contact Us option it gives you the following address

So it looks to be part of the Bet Rescue "stable". Wouldn't mind seeing if I could get a copy in the High St before deciding on a subscription. Only 64 pages though.

Re: Inside Edge magazine

Don't know about anyone else that was on the years subscription but I am still getting Inside Edge sent to me. Was due to expire at the end of the year, AFAIK, but I just received a new issue on Friday.

Had a quick look at it despite being all poker and its interesting to note its now down to 74 pages, quite a few of which are adverts.
