Getting bets on using friends’ names

I bet a lot and I am now severely limited by most of the bookies that I want to use. I put my bets on in the morning as I find that I tend to get better prices that way and I often find that I can get a significantly better price at a bookmaker than at Betfair. I would like to continue to get my bets on with the bookmakers.

Quite a few friends have offered to let me use their names to get bets on with bookmakers. What I am wondering is whether this is legal? Does anybody else do this? What’s your view on it?

I would be happy to pay for a professional opinion on this. Does anybody know any firms of lawyers who may have done work that is relevant to this?

I am not bothered about the tax side of it for the moment. I just want to check that I’m not going to be done for fraud before I head down this route!

If you would prefer not to go into print about this, then please drop me a pm.

Cheers
Jasper

Re: Getting bets on using friends’ names

Howdo Jasper. Ive never really thought about the legal aspect to it as i wouldnt be expecting to get caught. Im pretty sure there are loads of ways to do this and i wouldnt worry too much by the legal implications. remembering of course that these are the views of me and not TDP.

I think if your friends are willing to lend you their cc details and info to get a few free bets then good on you and dont forget to support The Daily Punt by using our links to bookmakers when signing up. I'll look out the bookmakers that offer 'refer a friend' bonuses (betfair & bwin i know of) and you could make a bit of money with the refer Jasper.

good luck

Re: Getting bets on using friends’ names

Cheers, Komp. I am not sure about the refer a friend thing. I don't want them to see any relationship to my existing account!

Does anybody know what checks bookies do on IP addresses? I can change my IP address by switching my router off for 10 minutes but I will still get an IP address that points to roughly where I am in the UK (coz I use BT). If I use a friend's name who lives somewhere else in the country, are any of the bookies sophisticated enough to pick this up?

Re: Getting bets on using friends’ names

A person can join a bookmakers and be free to move anywhere in the world to use this account surely jasper? Maybe it could be more stringent with USA addresses etc but i cant see how they can get you on IP. Postal address is what its all about i would have to presume. Other ways around possible IP probs would be to register in your local library etc. I think if you have enough people who want to let you use their bank details then i think you would be able to do as your hoping jasper. good luck

Jasper aslong as you have written permission from the friend then it won't be a problem.

It will........bookies will close both accounts and it could take ages for you to get your cash out of both accounts whilst they do their fraud checks. They have limited your account for a reason and all you are doing is trying to fool them......it wont work.

Betfair i know for sure allow this.

You just need to print off the form they have. Get yourself to fill out your details and then get your friend to fill out his part and it will be fine.
